Chapter 750

Lillian walked quickly over and heard footsteps. Only then did Jackson slowly lift his head.

A slight smile tugged at the corners of his thin lips. He knew Lillian couldn't be that heartless towards him.

He watched her approach quickly, and just then, a roll of thunder sounded overhead.

The ground shook as if in an earthquake, and Jackson clearly saw the terror on Lillian's face as she wobbled.

His expression tightened, "Lillian!"

In a moment of urgency, Jackson took two steps on his knees and tightly embraced Lillian's slender waist.

At the same time, the umbrella in Lillian's hand fell to the ground, and she covered her ears in fright.

The thunder continued, more ferocious than any before.

Lillian seemed to be back on that stormy night, lying in the car, being rushed to the hospital, with thunder rolling outside the window. Blood was flowing uncontrollably beneath her...

At that time, she really hoped Jackson could be by her side, but she didn't see him until she entered the operating room.

When she opened her eyes again, it was Jackson coldly and cruelly telling her that Taylor was gone.

At that moment, she truly hated him to the extreme.

But now, being held by him, hearing Jackson anxiously calling her name, Lillian's heart suddenly ached.

She slowly opened her eyes, lowered her hands from her ears, but her legs went weak and she started to fall.

She didn't hit the ground; Jackson held her steadily.

Jackson bent one knee, kneeling on one knee, and helped her sit on his bent leg.

"Lillian, are you afraid of thunder? You weren't afraid before, were you?" Jackson asked gently, reaching out to tuck Lillian's wind-blown hair behind her ear.

He looked at her pale face with pity, even in the dark of night.

Halfway through his words, he remembered that it was also thundering and raining that night. Jackson suddenly understood and stopped talking, just holding Lillian tighter, saying,

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought you here in this weather."

Lillian had calmed down. She turned to look at Jackson. "Since you know, get up and come with me. Stop doing these meaningless things. I have to work tomorrow; I don't have time to waste here with you."

She tried to stand up, and Jackson let her go.

Lillian stood up, thinking Jackson would get up and leave with her.

But to her surprise, he slowly lowered his right leg back to the ground and said in a deep voice,

"I'll call Terry to come up and escort you down the mountain and take you home."

Lillian saw him actually reaching for his phone and was both shocked and angry.

Just as Jackson was about to make the call, she rushed forward and snatched it away.

"Terry's phone isn't working for some reason. He's not in the car either. I couldn't find him, so I came up here. Hurry up and take me back... Ah!"

Before Lillian could finish her sentence, another roll of thunder sounded.

She was lying, already feeling guilty, and the thunder startled her so much that she covered her ears and squatted down, curling up into a ball.

Jackson looked at Lillian, who looked like a little mushroom, and his eyes were full of amusement.

He reached out and held her in his arms again, using his broad chest to create a calm space in the chaotic wind.

He whispered in her ear, "Still dare to lie to me?"

Clearly, she was worried about him and came up despite her fear, afraid he would hurt himself by kneeling too long, but she wouldn't admit it.

He had never realized before how stubborn and hard to coax Lillian could be.

Lillian remained silent.

She was truly afraid of thunder.

She clutched Jackson's shirt tightly, her voice softening. "Jackson, let's go down the mountain, okay?"

Lillian tugged at Jackson's waist, and Jackson, caught off guard by her sudden act of coquettishness, tensed up, his thin lips moving, almost agreeing without thinking.

Coming to his senses, he held her and said, "Be good, I'll have Terry take you home to rest."

Lillian lifted her head from his embrace, "What about you?"

"Come back tomorrow morning and see me here," Jackson said, his deep eyes filled with determination.

No matter what, he wouldn't get up. He had to stay until morning to prove his point to her.

Lillian felt a wave of helplessness and frowned deeply.

Jackson cupped her cheeks, "You've already been here for an hour, and it still hasn't rained. Don't you want to know Taylor's thoughts?"

Lillian looked into Jackson's clear and sincere eyes, feeling a bit swayed.

'Taylor, is this really your intention? Do you really not blame us at all?' Thinking this, she fell silent.

"You're crazy!" Lillian murmured, but she nestled beside Jackson without saying another word.

Time slowly passed, and gradually, the thunder in the sky disappeared.

The raging mountain wind seemed to die down, and suddenly, the light before them seemed to change.

Jackson's long lashes fluttered, and he opened his eyes.

A stream of light poured in front of him, his pupils dilated, and he looked up sharply.

Sure enough, the dark, cloudy sky silently revealed a bit of daylight.

The bright moon was half-hidden.

"Lillian, look!" Jackson looked down in surprise, only to find that at some point, Lillian had fallen asleep in his arms, curled up on the ground.

The next day, Lillian was awakened by the clear and pleasant sound of birds.

She opened her eyes, her expression dazed.

Not quite sure where she was, Lillian moved her stiff neck and realized she was lying in a car, covered with a blanket.

Outside the car window, under the dark blue sky, the green mountains and trees looked like a painting shrouded in mist.

It was a new day.

The memories of last night suddenly came back, and Lillian, startled, quickly sat up and opened the car door to jump out.

She found the car still parked at the entrance of the cemetery, but Jackson and Terry were nowhere to be seen.

Lillian instinctively looked up at the sky; it should be a little past five in the morning.

She quickly walked towards the cemetery entrance, and before she got close, she heard Rhett and Terry talking.

"Last night was strange, just thunder, no rain."

"Good thing it didn't rain, or Mr. Frane would have suffered." Terry said.

"I'll go make some soup and a simple breakfast. Terry, if you don't mind, you can eat something at my place before going down the mountain. Otherwise, your body won't hold up."

"That would be great! Why would we mind? We'd be grateful. Rhett, can you make a bit more, in case..."

Terry saw Lillian approaching and quickly stopped chatting, walking over to her. "You're awake. Did you sleep well last night?"

Lillian felt a bit embarrassed. She had slept in the car, and Terry couldn't have stayed in the car either.

"How did I get in the car last night?"

"Around two in the morning, Mr. Frane carried you down the mountain and put you in the car."

Lillian wasn't surprised by this answer. She had no idea how she fell asleep in the end.

Being carried down the mountain by Jackson, she didn't feel a thing.

"Where's Jackson?" she asked quickly.
