Chapter 820

The two police officers froze, beads of cold sweat forming on their foreheads.

What now? They just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. Messing with these wealthy families was never a good idea.

But there was Lillian, standing next to Jackson, who had his arm around her waist. Another person they couldn't afford to upset.

The officers had no choice but to stand respectfully.

"Can you tell us what you're reporting?"

Lillian held Logan in her arms, her gaze coldly sweeping over Celine.

Celine's face turned pale, and she immediately lowered her head, nervously rubbing her hands together.

Seeing Celine's guilty expression, Lillian's anger and frustration grew.

She pointed at Celine and Star, saying, "I'm reporting them for long-term child abuse."

Celine's head snapped up. "I didn't! Ms. Young, don't make false accusations."

She turned to Star. "Ms. Price, I've always taken good care of Logan, and you know that. Besides, Ms. Young is even accusing you of abusing Logan. That's just ridiculous!

Ms. Price is Logan's closest aunt and treats him like her own son. We all see it. Ms. Young, you can't just call the police out of anger and then slander Ms. Price. That's a false report."

Celine's voice grew louder, her demeanor one of a wronged, loyal servant.

But it was all to cover her guilt. During her time working for the Price family, Star had a bad temper and often scolded them.

Especially recently, when Star had broken ribs and stayed home all the time, her mood was worse, and she frequently lost her temper.

Logan, being frail, often cried, which only made Star angrier.

Celine, after being scolded and hit, would take out her frustration on Logan.

She would cover Logan's mouth with a towel or something soft to muffle his cries. At first, she worried about being caught.

But soon, Celine realized that Star's concern for Logan was superficial.

She didn't really care.

Celine grew bolder, focusing more on pleasing Star than caring for Logan.

When she saw Lillian unbuttoning Logan's clothes earlier, she knew trouble was coming. So now, she was prepared, looking particularly innocent while countering the accusations.

Star's eyes reddened. "Lillian, what are you talking about? Logan is a Price family member. How could I abuse him with the nanny?"

Star looked on the verge of collapse, humiliated.

Lillian held Logan tightly, letting out a cold laugh.

"Did I say you were abusing Logan? Both of you are so quick to defend yourselves, it's almost too obvious."

Star and Celine's faces stiffened.

Star frowned. "Lillian, there's only one child here, Logan. If you're accusing us of child abuse, it must be about Logan."

Celine quickly nodded, crying.

"Ms. Young, you can't just slander us like this. I've been taking care of Logan since he was born. He's a preemie with a congenital heart defect. If it weren't for my dedicated care, he wouldn't be doing so well. Logan loves me, right, Logan?"

Celine stepped forward to take Logan from Lillian's arms, but Logan, being sharp, swatted her hands away and buried his face into Lillian's shoulder.

His little hands clung tightly to Lillian's neck.

Logan's reaction was like an invisible slap to Celine's face. Her expression froze, a flash of anger in her eyes.

She instinctively tried to grab Logan, but Jackson grabbed her hand firmly.

"Who gave you the nerve to act up in front of me?!"

Jackson applied a bit of pressure, and Celine cried out in pain, her knees buckling. She felt like her hand was about to break.

"Mr. Frane, please, I..."

"Did you abuse the child or not?!"

Jackson's voice was cold and sharp. Celine, meeting his icy gaze, knew that confessing might be her only chance at survival.

If she denied it and got caught, things would be much worse.

Besides, many things could be easily uncovered. She couldn't hide it.

Celine's voice trembled as she cried for mercy.

"Mr. Frane, I was wrong. I shouldn't have taken out my frustrations on Logan. I admit it!"

Celine confessed to abusing Logan in front of the police, but Star's expression turned cold.

She hadn't expected Celine to be so spineless, so easily frightened.

Star, shocked and furious, rushed at Celine and slapped her hard.

The slap sent Celine sprawling to the ground.

Star angrily accused, "Celine, repeat what you just said! The Price family has treated you well, paying you three to four times more than other nannies to ensure you took good care of Logan. But you... you're heartless. I'll sue you!"

Star then turned to the police, speaking righteously.

"I had no idea she was like this. Arrest her! The Price family won't let this go easily."

Star looked at Jackson, tears in her eyes.

"Jackson, you have to believe me. I was kept in the dark about this. You know my health isn't great, and sometimes I can't personally take care of Logan.

I trusted the people around me too much. Celine always seemed so kind and honest. I never imagined she was like this! It's infuriating. But I really didn't know. How could I abuse Logan? He's my nephew."

Star cried, reaching for Jackson's sleeve.

"Jackson, you know I can't have children because of my health. I've always treated Logan like my own son. If he's hurt, it breaks my heart. I..."

Before Star could touch Jackson's sleeve, Lillian pulled Jackson aside, dodging her.

Lillian scoffed, interrupting Star's crying with a cold tone.

"You care about Logan? Star, if you really cared, wouldn't you check on Logan first? Why are you only focused on arguing with the police and my boyfriend? Do you think everyone here is blind and easily fooled?"
