Chapter 740

Jackson instinctively raised his hand to steady the woman who had lunged at him.

However, the scent of the unfamiliar woman's perfume and her larger frame compared to Lillian's made him realize something was off.

The smile in Jackson's deep eyes vanished instantly, and he pushed the woman away.

"Jackson, I'm sorry. I tripped over something just now. Thank you for catching me in time."

The woman, after being pushed away, tucked her long hair behind her ear, revealing a familiar face.

It was Star.

Jackson frowned slightly, belatedly realizing that the Ms. Price Ronnie mentioned in the elevator was probably Star.

His expression turned cold, "No need to thank me."

Star's eyes brightened, but then Jackson added, "I only reached out because I mistook you for someone else."

In other words, if he had known it was her, he would have avoided her.

Star's smile froze, and her eyes welled up.

"Jackson, I'm here to discuss the annual party collaboration with Star Group. I was just leaving and saw you, so I came over to say hello. Do you have to be so sarcastic?" Star felt hurt and wronged.

Jackson, however, remained indifferent, "Well, you've said hello."

So she could disappear now.

With that, he turned to get into his car, not wanting to deal with Star any longer.

Jackson hadn't forgotten that Lillian was waiting for him.

But just as he turned, he remembered something.

Jackson stopped and turned back to Star. "I lost a cufflink last night. Have you seen it?"

He had been wearing the cufflinks Lillian gave him yesterday, but when he got home late at night, he found one was missing.

Jackson couldn't remember when he lost it and had searched everywhere to no avail.

He suspected he might have lost it at the hospital last night, and his men had almost turned the place upside down looking for it.

Star's heart skipped a beat, recalling that Lillian had taken the cufflink earlier.

She knew Lillian would likely ask Jackson about it.

She smiled slightly, "That cufflink was a gift from Lillian, right? I guessed from the initials on it."

Jackson's eyes darkened, and he extended his hand. "Give it to me!"

Star smiled, "The cufflink was probably torn off by Logan last night. I picked it up, but it's not with me now."

Seeing Jackson's expression darken and his anger rising at the news, Star clenched her fists.

Her heart was filled with jealousy. Why did Jackson care so much about a small gift from Lillian?

And yet, despite her obvious injury with her hand wrapped in bandages, Jackson hadn't even asked about it.

Star suppressed her resentment, "Jackson, don't misunderstand. I didn't throw it away. I intended to bring it to you, but I ran into Lillian in the parking lot. Since it was hers, I gave it back to her. Lillian seemed to misunderstand and got very angry. She pushed me to the ground, and that's how I got hurt."

The cufflink had been taken by Lillian.

To prevent Lillian from complaining to Jackson, Star explained first.

After all, it was just her and Lillian there at the time. Even if Jackson checked the surveillance, he wouldn't hear their conversation but would see Lillian pushing her to the ground.

After speaking, Star stepped forward and raised her injured, bandaged hand.

She thought Jackson would finally show some concern.

Once Jackson felt guilty, she could make a small request, and he would likely agree.

Upon hearing that the cufflink was with Lillian, Jackson softened slightly, but he still chose to ask. "What did Lillian misunderstand?"

Star almost couldn't maintain her composure.

She withdrew her hand, "Lillian probably thought that having such a personal item with me meant we had some intimate interaction. She got very angry, took the cufflink, and pushed me to the ground."

Before she could finish, Jackson interrupted, "You said she was very angry?"

Star was stunned. Why did Jackson's lips curl into a slight smile?

Star felt terrible.

Jackson's smile grew more pronounced, "Do you think she was jealous?"

Star felt as if a knife had been plunged into her heart, her nails digging into her palm.

Jackson clearly didn't need her to answer. He was already pleased, convinced that Lillian was indeed jealous.

'So Lillian still cares about me.' Thinking this, Jackson turned and got into the car.

Star was anxious. She hadn't even mentioned what she wanted to talk about.

She took two steps forward and grabbed the closing door.

"Jackson, Mike's grandfather's birthday party is in a few days. Can we go together? You know, since I came back, I haven't attended such events. If you could be my date, I..."

Star's eyes shone with expectation and trust as she looked at Jackson in the car.

Her delicate appearance only heightened a man's protective instincts.

But Jackson interrupted her coldly. "I'll be going with Lillian."

His gaze fell on Star's hand gripping the car door, signaling her to let go impatiently.

Star bit her lip, "Jackson, has Lillian agreed? With her personality, she probably won't want to go with you."

How could Jackson tolerate such words?

His eyes turned cold and sharp, "She won't refuse me!"

With that, Jackson moved to close the door.

Star, frustrated and with reddened eyes, held onto the door tightly. She took out her phone with trembling hands and said.

"Jackson, Lillian doesn't love you! She told me to use any means to win you over. She even wished me to become your wife soon, saying she's tired of you and hopes someone else can take over so you won't cling to her anymore. Jackson, I'm the one who truly loves you, who has loved you since childhood and is willing to give everything for you. Why won't you look back at me and instead remain infatuated with Lillian?"

Tears streamed down Star's face, her deep affection hard to ignore.

Moreover, Star and Jackson shared a dramatic childhood.

Terry, sitting in the driver's seat, felt his heart race at Star's emotional confession.

He thought Jackson might feel differently about Star and wouldn't be completely indifferent.

After all, what man doesn't want to be adored? It greatly satisfies a man's ego.

Compared to Star's unwavering affection, Lillian seemed too indifferent.

Jackson's handsome face turned cold. Seeing his anger, Star felt a glimmer of hope and reached out to touch Jackson's muscular thigh, constrained by his suit pants.
