Chapter 49 Come and Fight Me If You Have a Problem

Before Jenny could even lay a hand on Lilian, a pitiful scream erupted from Wendy. Jeffery had struck her with a hammer! Amidst the chaos, Terry's voice rang out from the crowd. "Clear the area, no photography permitted!" Lilian turned to see two lines of security guards, dressed in black, swiftly dispersing the spectators.

A tall, imposing man strode purposefully towards her, his icy gaze fixed on her with an air of severity. Lilian was too stunned to react, and before she knew it, Jackson's towering figure had already breezed past her, heading straight for the counter.

"Jeffery!" His voice was stern and commanding. The sight of him approaching caused Jeffery to drop the hammer in fright, attempting to seek refuge under a chair. But Jackson was quick. With two strides, he reached out and grabbed the collar of the terrified boy, hoisting him up effortlessly.

"Bro! Bro, I'm sorry! Ugh... I can't breathe!" Jeffery cried out, his legs flailing helplessly in the air.

Seeing Jeffery's distress, Lilian rushed to his aid, pleading with Jackson. "Brother Jackson, Jeffery is still unwell! Please, let him go! He knows he's done wrong!" She tried to pry Jackson's hand from Jeffery's collar, but his grip was unyielding, a testament to his masculine strength.

Jeffery's face was turning a worrying shade of red, his eyes brimming with tears as he sought help from Lilian. This child was not only venting his anger on her behalf, but Lilian couldn't bear to see anyone bully her little brother, especially not Jackson.

In her desperation, Lilian bit down hard on Jackson's wrist, her anger fuelling her strength. She bit with all her might, because she too was seething with rage. Was Wendy's distress really enough to provoke Jackson's wrath? To the point where he would harm Jeffery, who was already ill?

Lilian's heart was a whirlpool of anger and sorrow. She wished she could tear a chunk of flesh from Jackson's hand, the metallic taste of blood filling her mouth. Finally, Jackson released his grip, and Lilian caught Jeffery as they stumbled back a few steps to regain their balance.

When she looked up, she saw Wendy, sobbing uncontrollably, throwing herself into Jackson's arms. Her face was pale, her right arm raised to reveal a large, ugly bruise. "Jackson, it hurts so much, I'm scared... sob... it feels like my hand is broken, will I never be able to play the violin again? It hurts, it really hurts..."

She could barely stand, and Jackson reached up to comfort her, his brow furrowed in concern. His icy glare was directed at Lilian and the crumpled Jeffery at her side. "You two are out of line!"

Lilian felt a chill run down her spine at the sight. She was his wife, yet he sided so naturally with his mistress. The combined weight of her and Jeffery's plight couldn't compare to Wendy's single tear.

Humiliation washed over Lilian. She bit her lip, ready to retort, but before she could utter a word, Jeffery, leaning against her, rolled his eyes and collapsed. "Jeffery!" Lilian cried out, catching him as they both tumbled to the ground.

She gently caressed Jeffery's small face. "Jeffery? What's wrong, Jeffery?" His face was flushed, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. Lilian's heart pounded with worry as she considered his condition. Seeing that he wouldn't wake up, she instinctively turned to Jackson for help. But Jackson remained impassive, simply picking up the sobbing Wendy.

Lilian's world darkened, her gaze fixed on the man about to abandon them. "She's fine, but Jeffery is unconscious. Can't you see who needs help?" Her voice trembled, her body shaking slightly.

Jackson cast a cold glance at her. "People should take responsibility for their actions. Who taught him to be so arrogant and resort to violence at such a young age?!"

Lilian felt the sting of his words. Everyone knew of Jeffery's attachment to her, and she had spent a significant amount of time with him, acting as both a sister and sister-in-law. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that she was Jeffery's second mother. Did Jackson think she was the one who influenced and instigated Jeffery?

Feeling a profound sense of disappointment, Lilian's expression hardened, and she forced a smile. "I did teach him! Do you have a problem with that? If so, come and hit me!"
