Chapter 856

At the end of the hallway.

Kenneth and Ruby stood together, blocked by several bodyguards dressed in black.

Kenneth frowned deeply, his voice stern.

"Move aside! My daughter is in there. As her father, I have the right to know her condition."

Ruby held a thermal food container, her expression worried and anxious.

She tugged at Kenneth, trying to calm him down. "Kenneth, keep your voice down. Don't disturb Lilian's rest. We can discuss this calmly."

Kenneth patted her hand, his voice still tense. "How can I not be anxious? Our daughter is in trouble, and we're not allowed to see her or show our concern? What kind of logic is that? Lilian and Jackson are divorced; they have no legal ties anymore. Jackson has no right to do this! If I can't see my daughter, I'll call the police right now!"

Ruby nodded at Kenneth, "I understand your concern for Lilian."

She then turned to the bodyguards, speaking softly. "Please, ask Mr. Frane again. He should understand our worry as parents. If we can't see Lilian and ensure she's okay, we'll have to inform Mr. Kelly. If anything happens to Lilian, we can't bear it ourselves, and we can't explain it to Mr. Kelly either."

Just as she finished speaking, a cold voice echoed down the hallway.

"Who are you cursing?"

Ruby looked up to see a tall, imposing figure striding towards them.

Jackson's every step seemed to carry a thunderous force, his presence icy and intimidating.

His eyes fixed on Ruby, showing no courtesy, barely hiding his disdain and contempt.

Ruby felt a chill down her spine under his gaze, but she was experienced and composed herself quickly, offering a gentle yet surprised and respectful smile.

"Mr. Frane, you must have misunderstood me. I even made some chicken soup for Lilian. If she's awake, please let her father and me see her."

Jackson raised his hand. "Give me the soup."

Ruby's eyes brightened, looking pleased. She stepped forward and handed the thermal container to Jackson. "Mr. Frane, let me take care of Lilian personally. She needs a family member by her side. We know you're doing your best, but as a man, there are things you might overlook."

Ruby spoke as she tried to pull Kenneth along to enter the hallway.

But in the next second, Jackson raised his hand.

The entire thermal container was thrown directly into a nearby trash can, making a loud noise.

Ruby jumped in fright, letting out a scream.

Kenneth's face fell. He immediately shielded Ruby and frowned at Jackson, his voice stern.

"Jackson, even if you're divorced from Lilian, we're still your former in-laws. What kind of attitude is this?"

Jackson's cold eyes fixed on Kenneth, finding his protective stance towards Ruby laughable.

"In-laws? Do you think you deserve that title?"

Jackson's voice was icy, openly hostile, and disdainful towards the two.

Kenneth's chest heaved slightly. "How dare you! With such arrogance and disrespect, no wonder Lilian divorced you. I will never allow Lilian to be with someone like you again!"

Kenneth's stern words didn't faze Jackson, but Terry, who had just returned from outside, couldn't hold back.

He stood behind Jackson, smirking. "Some people have a lot of nerve. Did Mrs. Frane even acknowledge you as her father?"

Terry had heard Lilian call Kenneth by his name. Everyone knew how poorly Kenneth treated Lilian, which made her, a well-mannered person, address her father by his name.

Not to mention, Kenneth kept a venomous woman by his side and brought back a fake daughter, treating her like a princess. He wasn't a good father who could tell right from wrong.

And now he wanted to control whether Lilian could be with Jackson? What a joke.

"I'm her biological father. I gave her life. That's an undeniable fact. I don't need her acknowledgment!"

Kenneth glared at Terry, his voice deep. "Who do you think you are? You're just an assistant. Do you think you have a say here?"

Terry rolled his eyes at Kenneth. "Yes, I'm just a humble assistant, not worthy of speaking to someone as noble as you."

Terry smirked and muttered under his breath, "Unlike some people who become a live-in son-in-law and still keep a mistress."

Though he spoke quietly, the hallway was silent, and Kenneth and Ruby heard him.

Their faces turned even grimmer.

Kenneth had taken over half of the Kelly family business, married Ruby for years, and had the support of the Lawson family, the second-largest shareholder of the Kelly Group.

Even Oberon couldn't easily deal with him. Everyone treated him with respect.

It had been years since he heard the term "live-in son-in-law."

And Ruby, too, was always treated with respect.

But Terry dared to call her a mistress?

Ruby's gentle expression faltered, her fingers trembling with anger.

"How dare you! Apologize immediately, or I'll make sure you never work in this field again!"

Kenneth shouted, his gaze towards Terry venomous.

Terry knew Kenneth had the power to do that to others.

But he was Jackson's man. What did he have to fear?

He dared to be so bold because he knew Lilian didn't acknowledge her biological father, and Jackson was equally hostile towards the two.

Otherwise, he wouldn't be foolish enough to insult the CEO of the Kelly Group and Jackson's future father-in-law.

Terry chuckled. "How scary. But unfortunately, I only work for Mr. Frane. Your words mean nothing to him."

Kenneth's head throbbed with anger. He sneered. "Such an arrogant assistant. This is a first. It seems like the master teaches the servant well."

Kenneth turned his gaze to Jackson. "Fire him, and I'll consider letting you continue seeing Lilian as a reward for saving her. How about that?"
