Chapter 601

From the moment Jackson walked in, he didn't even drop Bob's name.

But Star was quick on the uptake. She shot a look at Dominic and said, "It's my dad. He was worried about Lilian. After what went down yesterday, he sent someone to check things out. Didn't Bob get rushed in for emergency treatment?"

Dominic, with a deep voice, replied, "Yeah, that's right. If you think we're involved, then show us some proof. Call the cops, let them dig into it, and prove we're guilty. Otherwise, you owe Star an apology!"

Dominic knew Jackson had zilch. If he had anything solid, he wouldn't be here alone; he'd have already called the cops.

So, Dominic stayed cool and ticked off.

Jackson glared at them and said coldly, "I don't have proof, but last night Bob made a move, Wendy had a bad fall and tough labor, and I got lured away. Isn't that all a bit too convenient?"

Bob had just gotten out of the slammer; no way he could've pulled off a kidnapping solo.

Despite grilling Bob hard, Jackson got nothing. Bob genuinely didn't know who was behind it.

The mastermind only gave Bob cash, a hideout, and help but never showed their face.

The puppet master was super careful, keeping things hush-hush with Bob.

But Jackson wasn't totally in the dark; he just needed more time to dig.

"Jackson, the bodyguards watching Wendy were your guys. Wendy's fall was just an accident. How can you pin this on me without any proof?" Star asked, her voice shaky.

She trembled, and with her already messed-up vocal cords, her crying sounded even more raspy and broken.

She clutched her neck, tears streaming down, and continued, "I've already agreed to go abroad. What more do you want? Are you just here to torment me? Even if you love Lilian, you can't treat me like this."

Jackson looked at her, his icy stare softening a bit, like he was buying her act.

He closed his eyes and said, "If the Price family isn't involved, I'll apologize. But if I find evidence, I won't let it slide!"

He turned and left, shutting the ward door behind him. Star's legs gave out, and she crumpled to the floor.

She looked up at Dominic, panic in her eyes.

"What do we do? He's onto us."

Dominic, still calm, sneered, sat back on the hospital bed, flicked the bloodstains off his gown, and cut her off, "Chill out! If he's suspicious, he's ungrateful. The Price family got wrecked because of him. How dare he suspect us! Let him dig all he wants. This has nothing to do with us!"

When Jackson got back to Lilian's ward, half an hour had passed.

Just as he was about to open the door, someone inside must've heard him, and the door swung open.

Jackson was a bit taken aback, his hands clenching when he saw who was there.

It was Lilian.

She was in a long black dress, a black trench coat with a belt, and a black hat, standing there with Shirley's support.

The all-black getup made her pale face look even more ghostly.

She was dressed for mourning.

Jackson's expression shifted, and he frowned, saying in a deep voice, "What are you doing? Who said you could get out of bed?"

He stepped forward, ready to scoop her up and take her back.

Lilian raised her hand, took a step back, and said coldly, "Don't touch me. We're going to State Court right now."
