Chapter 409 Don't Act on Your Own

Lillian had no clue what Jackson was thinking or why he had instinctively pulled his hand like that, but his reaction made her feel frustrated.

Jackson seemed to catch on to his own reaction. He turned to Lillian, eyes deep, and said, "Can you wait outside, please?"

Lillian figured he thought her presence might upset Susan more. She nodded, said nothing, and left.

As she closed the ward door, she saw Jackson grab a wet wipe and gently comfort Susan.

Adara was doing the same. They stood on either side of Susan's bed, like a couple caring for a parent.

Lillian paused before closing the door and turning around.

To her surprise, she saw Dominic.

Lillian nodded respectfully. "Dominic."

Dominic's graying temples and deep wrinkles made him look older than Martin, even though they were the same age. He had a stern presence.

Dominic ignored Lillian and looked at her right hand seriously. "The Frane and Price families have been engaged since childhood. Taking something that isn't yours feels wrong."

Lillian wore a dazzling diamond wedding ring on her right hand.

Dominic stared at the ring as he spoke.

Lillian didn't hide her hand. "Lyra chose this ring, and Jackson put it on me when he proposed. I'm sorry about Star, but you should understand that people can't live in the past."

She nodded at Dominic, stepped aside, and walked toward the restroom.

Dominic watched her leave and snorted, "Lillian, don't be so confident."

Lillian quickened her pace without looking back.

When she came out of the restroom and was washing her hands, Adara walked in.

Adara asked, "Mrs. Frane, are you okay?"

Lillian smiled and shook her head. "I'm fine. Why did you come out too?"

Adara replied, "Dominic asked me to come out. He probably wants to talk to Susan alone. Susan listens to him. I think Dominic is reasonable, and Mr. Frane is determined, so don't worry, Mrs. Frane."

Lillian pressed her lips together, thinking Dominic seemed to share Susan's stubbornness.

The Prices were very stubborn. Even though Jackson married Lillian, he probably felt burdened.

Seeing Lillian's forced smile, Adara took her hand and comforted, "Should I tell Susan I'm married with kids? That way, she can't force Mr. Frane anymore."

Jackson had arranged for Adara to pretend to be Star to avoid Susan dying with regrets.

Since it was a lie, they thought fewer people involved was better, so they didn't tell Susan about Adara's marriage and kids.

Bringing it up now would seem abrupt. Susan wasn't a fool; she'd get suspicious.

Lillian shook her head. "Don't act on your own. If you make Susan suspicious, it'll be troublesome."

Adara nodded. "If you need me to help, just let me know, Mrs. Frane."

Lillian thanked her.

As they talked, neither noticed a shadow passing by outside the restroom.
