Chapter 850

Jackson raised an eyebrow as he listened, "One kidney earned her your mom's and grandpa's complete trust, letting her get everything from your mom. Looking back, it was a pretty sweet deal."

Lillian frowned, "Could it be that she was the one who switched the three of us back then, and not Bob at all?"

"Mary said Bob was the one who switched the babies," Ambrose replied.

Lillian shook her head, frowning. "Bob was a drunk and a liar. Before he went to prison, he drank a lot and acted terribly when he was drunk. He'd say anything, but I never heard him mention switching babies. And eight years ago, didn't Grandpa suspect Anouk's identity and get a paternity test done, which was tampered with?"

Ambrose nodded, "Looks like we need to dig into all this again."

Jackson's expression grew serious as he thought about Bob's early release from prison. At the time, he found the timing suspicious—right when Lillian was pregnant, Bob was suddenly released, and he hadn't gotten any heads-up. Later, he found out the prison had just changed leadership, and the transition was a mess, which was why he wasn't informed in time.

After that night, he dug deep into Bob's release, hoping to find any link between the warden and the Price family. Unfortunately, he found nothing. But now, Jackson suddenly remembered that the warden was from Seaspring Valley City. At the time of Lillian's incident, she was also in frequent contact with Oberon and Flora, and her true identity was about to be discovered.

Maybe Bob's release wasn't orchestrated by the Price family but by someone else with a deeper agenda.

Someone didn't want Lillian to return to the Kelly family. Even earlier, when Lillian fled to Country N...

Jackson abruptly looked at Ambrose and said, "Do you remember when you helped Lillian settle in Country N and visited her once?"

Of course, Ambrose remembered. He was just surprised that Jackson would bring it up now, almost a year later.

"Why? Are you gonna chew me out for that now?" Ambrose squinted, sensing that Jackson had a deeper reason for mentioning it.

Jackson raised an eyebrow but didn't speak. Lillian grabbed his hand. "You don't think that incident is related to Ruby, do you?"

Jackson stroked the back of her hand and said in a deep voice, "I found it strange at the time. Even I couldn't locate you, and it was only by following Mr. Kelly that I confirmed you were in Country N. How did Susan's idiot nephew find you so easily?"

Previously, Jackson had only suspected the Price family. At that time, Lillian's identity as the Kelly family's heiress hadn't been discovered yet, so he didn't consider the Kelly family. Now, it seemed like someone from Susan's side was deliberately leading them to use them as a weapon.

If all these incidents were connected to Ruby, she wouldn't stop until Lillian was dead.

"I'll re-investigate that incident," Ambrose said, frowning deeply.

Ambrose realized that the problem might indeed lie within the Kelly family.

In the past, although he and Oberon had grown distant from Ruby due to her marriage to Kenneth, Ruby had always shown genuine affection for Anouk. Plus, Ruby had donated a kidney to Ophelia, and she fell ill several times a year because of it. This made them never suspect Ruby of such malicious intent.

Oberon used to say that as long as Ruby treated the Kelly family's granddaughter sincerely, they could tolerate her minor schemes. But if Ruby knew all along that Anouk wasn't Ophelia's biological daughter, her previous kindness would be completely overturned.

"From now on, until we resolve this hidden threat, you can't go out alone. I'll have Harry and his team follow you secretly," Jackson said to Lillian, his tone firm.

He didn't give Lillian a chance to refuse, but she knew Harry was Jackson's most trusted bodyguard, always within reach.

"You can have other bodyguards follow me. Harry should..."

Lillian wanted to say she would have Ambrose arrange for the Kelly family's bodyguards so Harry could stay with Jackson.

However, Jackson interrupted her, "Harry will follow you, or you don't go out at all! This is non-negotiable!"

Lillian was speechless. She knew Jackson was genuinely scared by her near-death experience. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so strict, as he had been more considerate of her opinions and wishes lately. Now, Jackson valued and respected her thoughts.

Lillian's heart softened, and she compromised, "Alright, but you need to stay safe too."

"My girlfriend is so sweet," Jackson's tense expression relaxed as he kissed Lillian's forehead.

They seemed to forget there was a third person in the room. Ambrose felt awkward sitting there. Everything that needed to be said had been said, so he stood up and cleared his throat, "I'm still here, you know. Some people should be mindful of their actions without official approval."

Lillian looked up, meeting Ambrose's slightly teasing gaze, and her face flushed.

Jackson, however, caught the key point in Ambrose's words. His eyes rarely showed a hint of amusement as he said, "Are you leaving? I'll walk you out."
