Chapter 851

Ambrose scoffed, "Stick around and watch you two flaunt your relationship? No thanks."

He turned away, waving his hand. "No need to see me out. Take care of her."

Before Lillian could react, Ambrose had already walked out the door.

Lillian blinked, staring at the closed door, then shot Jackson a reproachful look. "You chased Shirley and Ambrose away. Happy now?"

Jackson raised an eyebrow and chuckled, "How can you say I chased them away? They just know when to leave."

Lillian was speechless. She couldn't argue with him.

She thought for a moment and said, "I feel like Ambrose is acting weird. He usually doesn't want me to spend too much time with you..."

She didn't finish her sentence, realizing she might have said too much. Jackson was already sensitive about Ambrose, and her words might make him even more so. It sounded like she was badmouthing Ambrose behind his back.

Just as she was about to change the subject, Jackson chimed in, "What? Are you disappointed that he left and let us be alone? Do you wish he were still chasing after you, controlling you? Lillian, I didn't know you had such thoughts."

Lillian's eyes widened, and she quickly waved her hands in defense. "That's not what I meant! I didn't mean that. I wish Ambrose would let go of me, his guilt, and his sense of responsibility, and find his happiness. I've told him this before, but he didn't seem to listen. What can I do?"

Lillian hurriedly explained, then noticed Jackson's expression was off. He seemed to be holding back laughter.

"Why are you laughing? Are you teasing me again?" Lillian pouted and playfully hit Jackson a couple of times.

Jackson pulled her into a hug and finally laughed out loud. "Lillian, I didn't realize you were so self-centered."

Lillian puffed out her cheeks, suspecting Jackson was openly mocking her. "How am I self-centered? And even if I am, so what? I'm beautiful, have a great personality, and can dance. I'm a proper young lady! What's wrong with having a few devoted admirers?"

Why should Jackson be allowed to have a crazy admirer like Star, but she can't have a decent suitor?

Lillian huffed, and Jackson nodded with a smile. "You're right, but how do you know Ambrose didn't take your advice to heart?"

Lillian felt there was more to Jackson's words. She thought back to Ambrose's behavior and words since she woke up. It seemed different from before.

She hadn't forgotten that Ambrose and Jackson used to clash whenever they met, the air thick with tension. She had thought they were temporarily calling a truce because of the recent events. But now, thinking back, Ambrose had left decisively, even telling Jackson to take care of her. He had even mentioned something about being like family.

Lillian suddenly realized and looked at Jackson in surprise. "Did Ambrose agree to us being together? Does he not like me anymore?"

Jackson looked at her shocked expression and squinted. "Why do I feel like you're genuinely surprised and a bit disappointed?"

Lillian shook her head. "No, I'm relieved and happy that he's not holding on anymore. I truly believe Ambrose's feelings for me were more about guilt and responsibility than real love. We're together now, and I'm glad Ambrose is willing to let go. But I'm a bit surprised. How did he suddenly come to this realization?"

Ambrose had always been persistent, so Lillian wondered if Jackson had said something to him recently. But Jackson looked innocent and said, "I didn't say anything to Ambrose. Maybe he saw my passionate feelings for you and felt he couldn't compare, so he decided to step aside."

Jackson raised an eyebrow again, "Or maybe Ambrose has found someone special himself?"

Lillian felt there was more to Jackson's words. She grabbed his hand and pressed him for answers. "What do you mean? Do you know something?"

Jackson nodded but didn't speak. Lillian pushed him, and he finally said, teasingly, "Do you want to know?"

Lillian urged, "Of course I do! Tell me, who is it? Do I know her?"

She thought about possible candidates. Ambrose was handsome, charismatic, capable, and had impeccable character. Such a man was more popular than someone like Jackson, who had an air of aloofness.

Back in Seaspring Valley City, many socialites chased after Ambrose. Even in the dance troupe, many pretty girls liked him. Among them, a few were particularly outstanding, but Ambrose had always been polite yet distant, never showing special interest in anyone.

Lillian thought for a long time but couldn't pinpoint anyone. She looked at Jackson expectantly, and he sighed, "How would I know who it is? I don't know her. I just saw Ambrose having dinner with a pretty young woman in a private booth the day you had your accident. It didn't look like a business meeting."

Lillian was intrigued. "What did she look like? Describe her to me."

She was genuinely curious. A private dinner date indicated something was going on. And if Jackson, who had seen many beautiful women, said she was pretty, she must be stunning.

Lillian didn't notice Jackson's expression had become a bit complicated. Jackson's eyes darkened as he looked at Lillian, who finally sensed something was off.

"What's wrong?" she asked, blinking in confusion.

The next second, Jackson grabbed her by the waist and flipped her onto the hospital bed. He pressed his nose against hers, his voice husky.

"Your attention has been on other men for too long. And you didn't even get jealous when I praised another woman."

Jackson rubbed his nose against Lillian's, then lifted his head and bit her lip.

"Tell me, do you not love me?"
