Chapter 725
Mike shook his head. "I'm afraid it's not that easy. As far as I know, Beck has indeed stopped seeing patients personally. Last year, even when Beck's friend had a stroke and didn't recover well, he couldn't get Beck to treat him."
Jackson said in a deep voice, "Where there's a will, there's a way. We have to try."
Mike nodded. "I'll go back and ask my grandfather. Then you can take Lillian over, and I'll arrange for you to meet."
Jackson patted Mike on the shoulder before turning to push open the ward door.
Ambrose looked over from the bed, his smile distant. "Thanks for your help tonight, Mr. Frane. There's nothing more here for you to do. You're busy, so I won't take up any more of your time."
Jackson walked up and nodded at Ambrose, then turned to Lillian and said, "I have checked, and Mr. Kelly's IV won't be done until early morning. It's best to stay for observation overnight. I've arranged a ward, so let's move him there. This temporary ward is noisy and not good for rest."
This was just a temporary emergency ward. If Ambrose stayed here for the IV, Lillian would have to stay and take care of him all night.
By the time the IV was done in the early morning, they would go home together, and if Ambrose pretended to be weak, Lillian, being soft-hearted and easy to deceive, might end up taking care of him all night.
Jackson wanted to prevent that possibility from the start.
"No need to stay overnight..." Ambrose's refusal was cut off by Mike, who had followed Jackson in.
"Mr. Kelly, you should listen to the doctor. Come on, everything's arranged. Don't be too formal. I'll help you to the ward; it's not far, and we'll be there soon." Mike stepped forward, greeted Lillian, and pushed the IV stand, helping Ambrose up from the bed.
Lillian moved to help, but Jackson grabbed her hand. "The admission procedures aren't done yet. Come with me to handle them."
Lillian looked at Jackson, suspicious. 'You've already arranged the ward but hasn't done the admission procedures?'
Jackson looked innocent and natural as he explained, "This isn't Frane Hospital. I don't have any special privileges here. We still need to handle the admission procedures ourselves."
Lillian believed him, nodded, and walked with him in the other direction.
When they reached the payment window, they saw a woman holding a crying baby in front of them.
The baby was crying loudly, and the woman seemed unable to communicate with the cashier, causing a line of impatient family members behind her.
Some were urging, some were criticizing, and the woman, looking anxious and irritated, snapped at the baby, "Stop crying! You're driving me crazy."
She said this and slapped the baby on the back twice.
The people in line frowned.
"How can you hit a baby like that? Are you even the mother?"
"The baby is sick and uncomfortable. If you can't comfort him, at least don't be mean. He's crying so hard he's out of breath."
"It's so cold, and he has a fever. Why didn't you dress him warmer?"
The woman, seeing the same people who had urged her to hurry now criticizing her for being mean to the child, became angry and embarrassed, her face turning blush. "He's my kid. I can do whatever I want!"
She said this and slapped the baby again, "I told you to stop crying!"
The baby, shaken by the slap, looked like he could fall out of the woman's arms at any moment. Lillian instinctively stepped forward and supported the baby's head.
The touch was burning hot; the baby had a high fever.
She took a closer look and was surprised.
The baby, with a feverish, wrinkled face, features twisted in pain, and tears streaming down, was still recognizable to Lillian.
It was the same baby she had seen in the restaurant before.
As she stood there in shock, the baby seemed to remember her, waving a small hand and grabbing a lock of her hair.
"What are you doing?" The woman holding the baby turned and glared at Lillian, clearly recognizing her as well.
After all, such a beautiful woman was hard to forget.
"It's you again, mind your own business." The woman took two steps to the side, but the baby was still holding onto Lillian's hair.
The baby had stopped crying, and as if in a daze, his small body twitched slightly.
Lillian felt a sharp pain at the root of her hair and a heavy ache in her heart.
Because of the woman's sudden movement, Lillian's hair was pulled, making it hard for her to lift her head.
Jackson's expression darkened, and he quickly stepped forward, reaching out to free Lillian's hair from the baby's grip.
Lillian saw this out of the corner of her eye and urgently said, "Don't hurt the baby. Check on him first!"
Jackson's cold gaze fell on the woman holding the baby. "Don't move!"
The woman, frightened by his gaze, turned pale.
Moreover, she recognized the powerful man in front of her as Jackson.
And this woman was the Price Family's nanny, Celine.
She had brought Logan to the hospital. Star was supposed to come too, but she was in a bad mood and didn't want to accompany Logan to the hospital.
After leaving the Price Mansion, Star had the driver stop, got out, and left, instructing Celine to take Logan to the hospital alone.
At the hospital, Celine realized she had left the necessary documents with Star, causing the commotion.
Celine recognized Jackson from photos on Star's phone.
But Jackson didn't know Celine. His powerful presence silenced the surroundings.
Jackson held Logan's small hand, trying to free Lillian's hair, but Logan's grip was tight.
If he used force, he could pry Logan's hand open, but Jackson was surprised by how soft yet strong the baby's hand was.
Afraid of hurting Logan, Jackson was momentarily at a loss.
Besides, Logan was obviously in bad shape, like he was in shock.
"Let go!" Finally, Jackson made a decisive move, sternly instructing Celine.
He reached out, supporting Logan with his large hand. Celine, not daring to resist, immediately let go.
Jackson took Logan and signaled Lillian to raise her hand.
Lillian and Jackson worked in perfect harmony. As Jackson took Logan, Lillian reached out and held him.
Jackson immediately protected her, rushing towards the emergency room, calling for a doctor.
Celine stood there, dumbfounded, unable to react.
"She can't be the baby's mother, right? How could she hand the baby to a stranger so easily?"
"The baby must belong to that young couple. The baby is so good-looking, doesn't seem like this woman gave birth to him."
"But she seems like doesn't know them."
People around were talking, and someone pushed Celine. "Your baby was taken away. Aren't you going to chase after them?"
Celine finally reacted, quickly taking out her phone to contact Star.
