Chapter 389 Heartbroken
Despite Lillian feeling prepared for the strange situation, her face still turned slightly pale, and her fingers trembled when she saw Adara's hand under the glove.
Adara's right hand was mutilated. She had no thumb. It was clearly severed at the base.
Although the wound had long healed and was smooth, it was still shockingly distressing.
Lillian suppressed her shock, politely looked away, and said with a strained voice, "Sorry."
Adara said softly, "It's okay. It happened many years ago, and I'm used to it."
Jackson reached out, held Lillian's trembling hand, and then said to Adara, "I'd like to be alone with Lillian for a moment."
Adara nodded quickly, got up, and went to the living room to take Jasmine upstairs with her.
Lillian grasped Jackson's hand in return, looking at him with undisguised shock. "Adara's hand..."
She had some suspicions in her heart but hoped it wasn't what she thought because it was too horrific.
But Jackson said in a hoarse voice, "Yes, I found Adara because of that hand, thinking she was Star."
Lillian's heart skipped a beat, and she found it hard to believe, even her breathing becoming slow.
She pressed her lips together and said, "If you don't want to talk about it, it's okay. I won't ask."
Jackson shook his head. When he brought Lillian here today, he had decided to tell her the whole story.
So many years had passed, but no one dared to mention Star, and he couldn't speak of it to anyone.
However, he must face these things eventually.
Jackson said slowly, "That day, the kidnappers' target was only me from the beginning. But Star loved to play and had cut her hair like mine. I took off my jacket and hat because I was hot, and she picked them up and put them on, which led to her being taken by the kidnappers. When they realized they had the wrong person, they came back and knocked me out. Later, when the ransom was being exchanged, something went wrong, and the police got involved. The two kidnappers got angry and took Star and me out of Miracalia. For half a month, we endured beatings, hunger, and torture. One of the kidnappers died accidentally, giving us a chance to escape. On the day we escaped, we bit through the ropes while the kidnapper was out buying food, but we didn't expect him to come back early."
Jackson recounted the events lightly, but the experience of two eleven-year-old children in the hands of desperate kidnappers for half a month was unimaginable.
Lillian instinctively raised her hand to hug Jackson's waist tightly, her face pale, feeling deeply distressed.
She wanted to say, "Stop talking."
If she had known Jackson's past was so painful, she would never have forced him to tell her.
But Lillian was choked, and she felt that saying anything now would be powerless. She could only hold him tightly.
Jackson sensed Lillian's emotions. His Adam's apple moved slightly, and he looked down at her.
He brushed his thumb across Lillian's face and said helplessly, "Why are you crying again?"
Lillian had unknowingly started crying again. She felt distressed for Jackson.
She was so distressed that she could hardly breathe and felt particularly powerless.
She could do nothing. She couldn't comfort the Jackson at that time, nor could she go through those experiences with him as Star did.
Jackson had even said that Star was his benefactor. She might have saved him.
However, Lillian couldn't be part of any of that.
