Chapter 278 Dreaming of Escape

Jackson's gaze fell upon the name, and his handsome face turned cold.

He bent down to pick up the phone and handed it to Lillian, saying, "Answer the call first."

Lillian had to take the phone and slide to answer.

Barry said, "Lillian, did you land in Arcadia smoothly? I'm still worried about you. I asked a friend to pick you up at the airport. Go with him to the hotel to rest. I'll be there tomorrow."

This was the time Lillian's original flight was supposed to land, and Barry clearly thought she had already arrived in Arcadia.

Just as Lillian was about to tell Barry that she hadn't left, Jackson suddenly snatched the phone away.

"What are you doing?" Lillian asked and instinctively tried to grab it back, but Jackson directly turned off the phone and snapped it away.

He had asked her to answer the call before, and now he was hanging up on her.

Lillian glared at him angrily and shouted, "Barry kindly arranged for someone to pick me up. If they can't find me, they'll be worried. Let me explain things clearly!"

Jackson thought that she indeed wanted to leave with Barry, fearing he would be anxious. Seeing her worried expression, Jackson felt both jealous and angry, his entire being radiating coldness.

"How do you plan to explain it to Barry? Did you want to tell him that you didn't go to Arcadia and that you were just in my car, having done something intimate as a couple?" Jackson said coldly.

Lillian's face turned red again. She didn't insist further, but her mind was still on the unfinished conversation.

She looked at Jackson nervously and asked, "You just said you liked me. Is that true?"

Jackson sneered coldly. "You missed one word."

After saying that, as if annoyed by her persistent questioning, he lowered the car window, stretched out his hand, and snapped his fingers.

Aiden's footsteps quickly approached, and Lillian silently lowered her head.

She moved from Jackson's embrace to the opposite seat, looking out the window.

Indeed, she had missed the word "if." If she wanted him to like her, it could only happen hypothetically. The thought chilled Lillian to the bone. She hugged herself tightly, feeling Jackson's strong, oppressive presence and his constant gaze on her. His eyes were focused, but she no longer wanted to ask. She didn't want to explore why he insisted on bringing her back. After all, none of the answers would be what she hoped for.

Jackson stared at Lillian, a cold smile playing on his thin lips. He had merely forbidden her from talking to Barry and took her phone away. Now, she didn't even want to speak to him. How wonderful!

The car drove smoothly, and before long, Lillian unknowingly fell asleep. She was too tired, from physical to mental exhaustion. Her body gradually slid down, her head swaying towards the car window.

Jackson leaned over in time, his large hand reaching out to cushion her head against the window glass. Lillian's head fell into his palm, and Jackson moved to sit beside her. He lifted her legs carefully and let her lie on his lap.

In her sleep, Lillian was unaware of this. She turned over and rested her head on Jackson's lap, seeking a more comfortable position. She murmured, "Why won't you let me go? You bastard."

Jackson looked down at Lillian. Seeing a tear slowly slide from the corner of her eye, he felt a sharp pain in his chest. He gently wiped it away with his fingertip and whispered, "Even in your dreams, you still want to escape from me. What a pity. You missed your chance."

He had thought about letting go before and had even tried, so he agreed to the divorce. However, he found he couldn't do it.

Now that she was carrying their child, she had even less of a chance. Even if she felt tormented, he would never soften his heart and let her go again!
