Chapter 692

Lillian replayed Jackson's words about the Price Family in her head as they drove.

She fiddled with the lace on her shirt and glanced at Ambrose. "Ambrose, any updates on Bob kidnapping me?"

Lillian was back with the Kelly Family, and Oberon wasn't about to let her baby go without answers.

Oberon had Ambrose use the Kelly Family's resources to dig into the Price Family.

But months had passed, and Ambrose hadn't said a word.

Ambrose sighed, "We haven't found anything on the Price Family yet. If we do, you'll be the first to know, okay?"

Lillian smiled with a nod, yawned and closed her eyes, feeling a bit worn out.

Ambrose glanced at her, his eyes filled with contemplation and hesitation.

Truth was, the Kelly Family hadn't found any link between the Price Family and Bob, but they had dug deep into Daisy and Barry's affairs.

Lillian had planned to study abroad, but with Barry missing, Ambrose and Oberon worried he might have fled the country. They feared for Lillian's safety if she went to the Phantom Kingdom.

So, they kept her home, saying she needed to stay with the family and get familiar with the Kelly Group's business.

But like Jackson, they kept the truth about Daisy and Barry from her.

Seeing Lillian still determined to uncover the truth made Ambrose feel a bit helpless and uneasy.

He wondered if she'd blame them for hiding the truth.

The car stopped at a red light, and Ambrose brought it to a smooth halt.

He reached back for a folded cashmere blanket and gently draped it over Lillian.

In the close quarters of the car, their bodies brushed against each other.

Ambrose noticed Lillian's eyelashes fluttering and realized she was pretending to sleep.

He thought, 'Why are you pretending? To avoid me? Has one evening with Jackson changed you that much?'

Ambrose paused, leaning closer, catching a faint floral scent from her.

Lillian tensed up. When she felt Ambrose's breath tickling her nose, she couldn't keep up the act and opened her eyes.

But Ambrose didn't seem to have any intention of offending her.

He looked like a hunter teasing his prey, waiting for her to give up the act.

Their eyes met, and Ambrose's deep gaze held a gentle, teasing smile. He said softly, "Lillian, I want to change my last name back. What do you think?"

Lillian stiffened, her mind going blank. At this distance, their noses were almost touching.

She held her breath, afraid even a slight movement would make their lips touch, stunned and frozen.

The car horn blared twice from the adjacent lane, startling Lillian. She quickly pushed Ambrose's shoulder.

Ambrose pulled back slightly, glancing coldly at the black Bentley beside them.

His gaze seemed to pierce through the dark-tinted windows, directly confronting the person inside. Lillian didn't think much of it, assuming the car next to them had just honked by coincidence.

Her mind started working again, and she urged Ambrose, "The light's green."

Ambrose withdrew his gaze, reached out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind Lillian's ear, and then slowly started the car again.

He glanced at the car in the side mirror, then looked at Lillian again. "You haven't answered my question."

Ambrose was referring to his mother's last name, Hawkins.

Lillian asked, "Why do you suddenly want to change it back?"

Ambrose's lips curved slightly. "I changed it to Kelly before because Grandpa was worried that, being young and alone, I would be looked down upon. Now that you're back, and the Kelly Family has a true heir, you will be joining the company. I should change my last name back."

Most of the Kelly Family's business was currently managed by Ambrose and Kenneth.

Anouk was still in school and hadn't joined the Kelly Group yet.

Lillian, however, was different from Anouk. Although they were the same age, Lillian had already graduated, and Oberon intended for her to start learning to manage the Kelly Group now.

Ambrose wanted to change his last name back to show everyone that only Lillian Kelly was the true heir of the Kelly Family.

Lillian understood his intention and quickly waved her hand. "No, I trust you. There's really no need for that! Besides, Grandpa and Grandma have treated you like their own grandson all these years. If you suddenly change your last name, they would be hurt and sad, and I don't want that."

Ambrose, however, looked deeply at Lillian and said, "I know you don't care about these things, but Lillian, there's another reason. Do you really not understand?"

Meeting Ambrose's meaningful gaze, Lillian felt her heart skip a beat.

How could she not understand?

She had already changed her last name back to Kelly, and two people from the Kelly Family could only be siblings.

If Ambrose wanted to be with her, he would have to change his last name back.

Lillian's fingers curled up, and she quickly looked away, saying urgently, "Ambrose, I think things are fine now! Really!"

Ambrose's hands tightened on the steering wheel, a trace of darkness and disappointment flashing in his eyes.

Because of this topic, they fell into silence.

Meanwhile, in the black Bentley driving in the adjacent lane, not too far away.

Terry glanced at Jackson in the back seat, who was exuding a cold aura, and said nervously, "Mr. Frane, we're almost at Mystic Meadows. Ambrose has already noticed us. Maybe we should stop following them?"

If they hadn't followed, Jackson wouldn't have seen that heart-wrenching scene in the car just now.

Now, how could Jackson sleep tonight?

Besides, they had already lost one car today. If they kept following, Terry feared this car's windows wouldn't survive either.

"Are they together?" However, Jackson in the back seat seemed not to hear Terry's question and only asked this.

His voice was filled with too much indescribable pain, and Terry quickly said, "Definitely not! It was just the angle, like when the actors fake a kiss scene in movies. And Mrs. Frane pushed Ambrose away afterward! They're definitely not together!"

Terry's analysis didn't provide any comfort to Jackson. He closed his eyes in exhaustion and dejection, his order sounding as if it was forced out of his heavy chest. "Let's go back."
