Chapter 928
"What's up with you? Can you get up or not?"
Shirley frowned, worried as she saw the person lying there, not moving.
Was he having a heart attack or something?
With that thought, Shirley's expression shifted, and she was about to help him up when the person on the ground slowly lifted his head, trying to support himself.
No way he could let his future boss's wife help him up and touch him.
Thinking this, he moved his arm just in time to avoid Shirley's outstretched hand.
With a pained and weak expression, he apologized, "I'm... I'm sorry, I bumped into you. I'm fine. Did I break your phone? I..."
His painful expression and the way he seemed unable to get up, combined with his good attitude, left Shirley speechless.
"Did you hurt yourself somewhere? Can you stand up?"
"I'm fine..."
The young man waved his hand but clutched one leg, screaming in pain, attracting the attention of passersby.
Shirley, worried about being recognized, quickly said, "Stop screaming. Let me take you to the hospital for a check-up."
She bent down and, without giving him a chance to refuse, helped him up and headed towards the hospital.
The young man was anxious, too. He was ordered to keep Shirley there, but Gray was taking too long.
He had no choice but to follow Shirley's lead towards the emergency room, hoping Gray would arrive before the doctor exposed him.
His prayers seemed to work. Just as he was limping towards the emergency building, he caught sight of a tall figure quickly approaching.
He immediately stopped, and Shirley looked at him and asked, "What's wrong?"
Facing Shirley's concerned and clear eyes, he felt guilty.
He nervously moved his leg and said, "Oh, it doesn't seem to hurt that much anymore. Let me try again... It really doesn't hurt anymore. Thank you for your time. I need to go see a patient now. I'll be off."
With that, he turned and walked away.
After a few steps, he quickened his pace and disappeared from Shirley's sight in the blink of an eye.
Shirley felt baffled. She pursed her lips, not wanting to think about what was wrong with him, and turned to leave.
But as soon as she turned, she bumped into a wall of muscle.
"I'm sor..."
With her hat pulled down, Shirley thought she had turned too quickly and bumped into someone. She started to apologize, but stopped abruptly when she saw who it was, feeling unlucky.
Her expression turned cold, and she tried to walk around Gray.
Her change of expression and the undisguised look of annoyance irritated Gray.
Gray grabbed Shirley's shoulder with a large hand and said coldly, "You bumped into someone and won't apologize properly?"
Shirley laughed, forced to stop and look at Gray. "Gray, do you think I'm stupid? That guy just now was one of your people, right?"
Shirley understood everything the moment she saw Gray. She knew it was odd that she was standing there and got bumped into.
Gray's handsome face quickly showed a hint of guilt, but he covered it up fast.
"What guy?"
Seeing him deny it, Shirley didn't bother to argue and struggled to leave.
Unexpectedly, Gray's grip on her shoulder was strong. Not only did she fail to break free, but she was also pulled directly into his arms.
Shirley bent her elbow and aimed a hard blow at Gray's waist, but he anticipated her move.
Gray bent back to avoid her attack and smoothly lifted her by the knees.
Before Shirley could react, she was lifted off the ground and held by Gray.
Shirley was furious. She glared at Gray, gritting her teeth. "Are you crazy? Put me down, or I'll fight you!"
As she spoke, she didn't try to maintain her balance by holding onto Gray's neck. Instead, she grabbed Gray's neck, threatening to choke him if he didn't let go.
Gray looked down at her. "Go ahead. There are people everywhere. If you want to make the headlines and get on the news, I won't stop you."
Hearing this, Shirley glanced around, her face turning slightly red, not from embarrassment, but pure anger.
Both she and Gray were wearing hats and masks, already drawing attention. Now, with Gray suddenly holding her, even more people were looking their way.
If she struggled, they might end up on social media immediately.
Shirley felt a headache. She didn't want her career to crash because of this jerk, Gray.
She pulled her hat down tighter and fell silent.
Gray saw her stop struggling and smiled slightly.
Five minutes later, he pushed Shirley into the back seat of a car and got in himself. The driver raised the partition and slowly drove out of the hospital.
In the enclosed car, Gray took off his hat and reached for Shirley's hood.
As he approached, Shirley elbowed him again.
"Shirley!"
She had been quiet, seemingly resigned to him, making her sudden move catch Gray off guard.
With a thud, Gray clutched his aching ribs, feeling like his bones might have cracked.
His angry voice didn't intimidate Shirley at all. She looked at him, annoyed. "What do you want?"
Gray looked at her, full of anger and frustration.
He had always been the type to respond better to kindness, but Shirley was tougher than him.
He took a deep breath and said, "Take me off your blacklist."
Shirley nodded and took out her phone, her fingers sliding across the screen.
Gray was surprised by her compliance, momentarily stunned.
As he felt a glimmer of hope, thinking Shirley might still care about him, he saw her open a chat and send a voice message.
"Tommy, do you have Kaida's contact info? Send it to me."
Gray's forehead throbbed.
"Tommy? Who's that?"
Gray grabbed Shirley's right wrist, pulling her into his arms.
She glared at him, annoyed. "How many times do I have to remind you? We're over. Actually, we were never together! It was just a fling, so talking about breaking up is ridiculous. But our consensual relationship is over, so please, Mr. Flores, show some respect!"
Shirley ranted, but Gray seemed to ignore her, his eyes cold.
"Who's Tommy?"
Shirley felt like she was talking to a brick wall. She snapped, "Whoever he is, it's none of your business!"
At that moment, Shirley's Facebook notification sounded, likely a reply from Tommy.
Shirley was about to check it when her wrist hurt again.
Her phone slipped from her hand, and before she could pick it up, Gray grabbed it.
Gray opened the top chat.
Tommy had sent a voice message, and his profile picture was a selfie.
A typical young man, with big eyes, looking at the camera, almost flirtatiously.
Gray let out a cold laugh and played the voice message.
"Shirley, do you need Kaida's number? It's XXXXX. Should I send her your Facebook profile so she can add you? By the way, is your stomach still hurting? Remember to drink more water."
Gray's expression darkened.
He was experienced enough to know that Tommy reminding Shirley to drink water meant he knew about her period.
Something even he didn't know!
Gray felt betrayed, his gaze sharp as a knife.
Shirley was furious that Gray had touched her phone and listened to her messages.
"Gray! Give me my phone! Are you crazy? Does Kaida know you're such a jerk?"
Kaida was the young star Gray was rumored to be dating.
Gray raised the phone, and Shirley missed grabbing it. Gray then pinned her to the seat, holding her wrists and pressing down on her.
He looked at her, his lips curling.
"You seem very interested in my personal life, even knowing about Kaida. Are you jealous?"
The thought made Gray's face soften slightly.
But Shirley had a knack for infuriating people.
She sneered at him. "Jealous of what? I want Kaida's contact to tell her to come get her man. I wish you both a long and happy life together, okay?!"
Her words showed no sign of caring, and her face was calm and untroubled.
Gray felt a tightness in his chest, looking at Shirley with a strange feeling.
It seemed she had moved on, leaving the past behind.
But how could he accept that?
He hadn't moved on, so how could Shirley?
Anger and frustration surged, and Gray leaned down, forcefully kissing Shirley's chattering lips.
Shirley's protests were silenced. She tried to bite back, but Gray held her jaw.
He applied pressure, forcing her to open her mouth and accept him, unable to resist.
Shirley cursed internally, realizing Gray had somehow become stronger.
Every time they met, his strength seemed to increase, leaving her no chance to win.
When her jaw ached, Gray finally let go.
Her lips were red and swollen, her eyes fiery, and her face flushed with anger, making her look even more beautiful to Gray.
Shirley gritted her teeth, while Gray felt somewhat satisfied, his expression softening.
He raised an eyebrow, hinting, "It hurts, so don't provoke me again."
Shirley felt the pain too, wishing it would hurt him more.
But she didn't dare to struggle or provoke him anymore.
She turned to look at the seat, not wanting to see Gray.
Gray calmed his breathing, and the car was silent except for their breaths.
The sound of their breathing felt intimate to Gray.
Looking at her side profile, her hair slightly messy, her ear tips red, Gray's expression softened. He said hoarsely, "There's nothing between me and Kaida. We're not together."
Shirley didn't react to his sudden explanation.
Gray frowned, not getting a response. He turned her face to him.
"Talk!"
Shirley coldly replied, "Your relationship with Kaida is none of my business."
Gray felt his anger rising again. "Shirley, do you have to define our relationship like that?"
His eyes showed anger, resentment, and hurt.
Shirley wasn't sure if she was imagining it, but for a moment, she thought Gray loved her.
Her heart tightened, feeling pain and sadness.
But it was just a moment, and she snapped back to reality.
Gray might care a bit, but it was just his pride, unable to accept her moving on first.
A man who didn't respect her couldn't be trusted.
She smirked, "How should I define it? I don't remember you ever saying we were a couple, Mr. Flores."
Gray's throat moved, his expression uncomfortable. He suddenly said, "Then I'll say it now."
Shirley looked at Gray, confused by his words.
Gray added, "I kissed you just now. Shirley, I don't agree with breaking up. Be my girlfriend again."
Shirley was stunned. "Are you serious?"
She thought Gray might be crazy or trying to humiliate her.
Gray saw her suspicious eyes and felt hurt.
This was his first time swallowing his pride for a woman, but Shirley's reaction?
He felt like his sincere feelings were wasted.
