Chapter 505 Trust Me

"Still cold? Stomach still hurt?" Jackson asked softly, noticing her lips had regained some color.

He poured Lillian a cup of warm water and sat by the bed, wrapping an arm around her shoulder to help her sit up. She was enveloped by his warmth again, but this time, she was more aware of it.

"I'm fine!" she snapped, pushing him away and leaning against the headboard. Her rejection was clear.

Jackson's arm froze mid-air. Though he expected it, a flicker of sadness crossed his blue eyes. He swallowed, suppressing his discomfort, and handed her the cup. "Drink some water."

Lillian took the cup, her vision blurred by the steam. "Thanks," she said distantly.

Jackson was helpless, trying hard to control his restless emotions. Lillian felt his gaze but didn't meet it. She sipped the water, her eyes landing on some disguise items on the table by the window—a dark brown wig and a curly beard.

She felt foolish for not recognizing him from the snowman outside. Jackson noticed her gaze and blocked her view with his tall frame.

"Mr. Frane, is it fun to deceive people?" she asked, looking up at him.

Jackson panicked, "I didn't mean to deceive you. I was afraid I'd scare you if I showed up suddenly."

Lillian laughed bitterly, "Yes, Mr. Frane, waiting for the perfect moment to save me. Fits your hero image."

Jackson's breathing grew heavy. He clenched his hands, trying to control his emotions. "Lillian, it's a man's job to protect his woman and child. This isn't about being a hero. I just didn't know how to handle things, so I hid like a coward."

His voice was hoarse and helpless. The usually invincible Jackson seemed lonely and hurt as if she had wronged him.

Lillian felt a pang of guilt and looked down, gripping the cup tightly. She refrained from easily trusting his words, as he was adept at pretense.

Jackson stepped closer, his shadow looming over her. He leaned down, gently lifting her chin. "Lillian, can you not think so badly of me? Trust me once. Come back with me. Let me take care of you and Taylor, okay?"
