Chapter 342 Test
Lillian watched them walk together. For a moment, she felt incredibly familiar.
It was as if she was seeing the scene that Jackson accompanied Wendy to the doctor on their wedding anniversary night.
It was so similar.
A heavy sense of sorrow and fatigue swept over her, and Lillian's fingers trembled slightly as she held her phone.
She stared at Jackson but didn't step forward. Instead, she hid behind a nearby tree.
Jackson felt his phone vibrating. He took it out and swiped his finger across the screen.
At the same time, Lillian's ears were filled with Jackson's deep, familiar voice. He asked, "Why didn't you answer the phone earlier?"
Jackson asked, without any form of address.
Lillian couldn't help but speculate, 'Was it because he didn't know how to address me in front of Star?'
She tightened her grip on the phone and asked him, "Jackson, where are you? Why didn't you come home for lunch?"
Lillian thought, 'If Jackson tells me he's with Star, it means he's honest, and I won't believe Wendy's nonsense. I'll go out to meet Star formally and ask clearly. But if he continued to deceive me...'
Before Lillian had time to think about what his secrecy meant or how she should respond, Jackson's cold voice came through. "I was busy at noon and will have a meeting. What's up?"
Lillian looked at Jackson, who was walking not far away with Star.
Star was looking down at her phone, and as she stepped down, Jackson naturally reached out to help her.
Star looked up and smiled at him. "Thanks."
Her soft voice came through the receiver into Lillian's ears.
Lillian couldn't bear to watch any longer. She turned around and asked hoarsely, "Is there someone with you?"
"Yes. Did you eat the donuts I had sent home at noon?" Jackson answered casually, not mentioning Star's identity at all, let alone explaining.
Lillian thought, 'He is clearly changing the subject.'
Lillian knew that cheating men always became adept at lying.
They seemed to be able to split into many parts, accompanying their lovers while still remembering to care for their wives at home.
Those casual acts of concern were the best disguise for them, making the wives foolishly believe that their husbands were just busy outside.
Lillian didn't believe that Jackson couldn't avoid it either!
She thought, 'How can he deceive and fool me like that?'
Perhaps not hearing her response, Jackson continued, "That day, I went to buy you donuts, but you never got to taste them. Today, I had Terry buy them. If you like them, I'll get more next time."
Lillian's breathing grew heavier.
Last time, Jackson was stabbed by Deborah when he went to buy her donuts, and the treats fell to the ground.
Lillian thought, 'Is he bringing this up now to make me feel touched?'
"So, are the donuts your apology for breaking your promise?" Lillian asked stubbornly.
She thought, 'Jackson accompanies Star while using a box of sweets to appease me. Should I be grateful that he still remembers he has a wife waiting at home?'
"If that's how you want to see it, fine. I have to go to a meeting now. Be a good girl at home." Jackson's voice carried a hint of a smile, but to Lillian, it felt only like mockery.
Jackson hung up, and Lillian turned around, clutching her phone.
Jackson and Star were already gone.
Lillian sat down on a nearby bench, looking up to keep her tears from falling.
But some suppressed, fragmented sobs still slowly escaped from her throat.
At the hospital parking lot, Jackson had already reached his car as he ended the call.
Aiden opened the back door, and Jackson said to Star, "I'll entrust the hospital matters to you."
