Chapter 655

Ambrose was about to help Flora into the elevator when Jackson suddenly sidestepped Anouk and said, "Sorry, I can't stand strong women's perfume. Let Ambrose help me instead."

Without waiting for a response, Jackson moved to Ambrose's side, grabbed his arm, and leaned against him.

Ambrose was taken aback, and as the elevator doors closed, Lillian was left inside.

Ambrose glanced at Jackson, saying, "Mr. Frane, I'm not into delicate and soft types."

Jackson shot back, "Good, my OCD is acting up."

He let go of Ambrose's arm, stood up straight, and walked ahead.

In the doctor's office, the doctor examined Jackson's arm and said, "Why didn't you come earlier? The wound is stuck to the gown now. It's going to be a pain to deal with. Let's give you a local anesthetic."

The doctor was about to instruct the nurse when Oberon, sitting nearby, said, "Anesthetic? This pain is nothing compared to childbirth. He's a man; he can handle it."

The doctor was stunned, and Jackson looked up at Oberon.

Anouk spoke up, "Grandpa, burns are the most painful. If it weren't for Mr. Frane, Grandma would have..."

Ambrose cut her off, "Anouk, how dare you mention Grandma? You brought her out; how did you take care of her? Come with me."

Ambrose put his hands in his pockets and walked out.

Anouk's face changed slightly at his reprimand, but then she looked at Ambrose's back with a hint of joy.

Could Ambrose be jealous? Was he upset because she showed concern for Jackson?

'It must be,' she thought, biting her lip and quickly following.

Oberon glanced at Anouk's back, then looked at Jackson.

Unexpectedly, Jackson was staring at him.

His expression was thoughtful, his gaze penetrating.

Oberon snapped, "What are you looking at? Your mind is already unclear. Not using anesthetic is for your own good!"

Jackson raised an eyebrow. "Thanks for your concern."

He then turned to the doctor, saying, "No need for anesthesia, just go ahead."

Oberon snorted, thinking, 'Who is considering him? What a shameless person, no wonder he fooled Lillian.'

Outside in the hallway, Ambrose stopped and turned to stare at Anouk, who had followed him.

"Ambrose, did you call me out because you wanted to talk to me alone?" Anouk's cheeks were slightly red, her eyes full of expectation.

Ambrose's gaze was deep as he looked at Anouk, his thoughts heavy.

On the way to the hospital, the DNA comparison between Anouk and Mary had come out, confirming they were mother and daughter.

Lillian had been swapped, and Anouk was the beneficiary. So, was Anouk aware of this identity swap?

"Ambrose, why are you looking at me like that?" Anouk's ears and neck turned red under Ambrose's gaze, her heart pounding, feeling that her earlier provocation had received a response.

Ambrose frowned and said, "Don't talk to me in that tone."

Anouk felt like she'd been doused with cold water. She bit her lip and asked, "Ambrose, why did you call me out here?"

"Grandma was with you, and she almost got burned. Got anything to say about that?" Ambrose's frown deepened, remembering the last time at the airport. Flora had gone to the restroom with Anouk, and then she was nowhere to be found. If she hadn't run into Lillian... In a place like an airport, if someone had taken her, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Ambrose's gaze grew sharper.

Anouk's face turned pale, and she clenched her hands. "Ambrose, Grandma wanted to ask the doctor when Lillian would be discharged. I had Layla follow her, but Grandma got impatient and wandered off, which led to the accident. Hospitals are full of germs and chaos. I think Flora should come here less often. Lillian needs to rest and may not welcome us. When I brought Flora to visit, Lillian didn't seem very enthusiastic."

Anouk was implying that Lillian only acted warm towards Flora in front of Ambrose and Oberon.

Ambrose looked at Anouk and said, "No one forced you to bring Grandma here, but since you did, you must ensure her safety. You can't just hand her over to the servant."

Anouk's eyes reddened, and she lowered her head, looking hurt. "I know, Flora is my grandmother. How can you make it sound like I did it on purpose? I was scared too."

Ambrose stared at her without saying more.

But he felt that Anouk might have done it on purpose. She clearly didn't want them to have much contact with Lillian. If Flora had an accident while visiting Lillian, they might not let Flora come again and even blame Lillian.

After a while, Jackson's wound was treated, and he came out with Oberon.

Jackson had saved Flora, and Oberon had taken care of his injury.

"Ambrose, prepare a generous gift and send it to Jackson's ward," Oberon said.

Jackson waved his hand and replied, "Mr. Frane, I saved Flora because you saved my wife and kids before. It's what I should do. The gifts I sent to the Kelly Mansion before, you didn't accept..."

Before Jackson could finish, Oberon impatiently interrupted, "Don't think I don't know. You and Lillian are long divorced! Who are your wife? Stop talking nonsense! And don't think you can take advantage of this. You must accept the gift!"

Oberon finished speaking, waved his hand, and left with Ambrose. Anouk lagged behind, gave Jackson an apologetic smile, and then followed.

Jackson stared at Anouk for a few more moments, examining her features and appearance.

Anouk's looks and demeanor were very different from the Kelly Family. How did he not notice this last time at the airport?

Anouk felt Jackson's gaze, her cheeks flushed, and she looked back at him several times.

Jackson took the next elevator back to his ward. He glanced at Lillian's ward next door and saw a vase thrown out of the door, with a few sunflowers and yellow roses inside.

Jackson stopped in his tracks. It was a clear sign of disdain, just as Harry had said.

As soon as it was discovered, it was thrown out.
