Chapter 193 Jackson Coaxed Her

Jackson's voice was soft, but Lillian felt like her heart had been struck by something, stirring up an uneasy and painful sensation.

She stared blankly at Jackson in front of her, tears uncontrollably welling up in her eyes.

She wanted to turn her head away, not wanting to show him her vulnerability.

However, Jackson's hand on her chin gently held her face, preventing her from escaping.

Tears rolled down Lillian's cheeks, splashing onto his fingers and seeping into his palm.

"Don't cry. I'm sorry. It's all my fault," Jackson said softly.

Lillian's tears were warm, but Jackson felt they were scorching as if they were falling directly on his heart.

He recalled the video Lyra had sent him on the way back.

The video captured the chaos by the poolside at that time.

After he left with Wendy in his arms, the pool remained eerily quiet, with no sign of Lillian resurfacing.

He also saw Gray diving into the water to rescue Lillian. Her face was pale, eyes tightly closed, looking lifeless. It was Gray who performed CPR on her, causing her to cough up water violently.

When Lillian opened her eyes, they were bloodshot and vacant. She truly had experienced a near-drowning.

She had almost drowned right before him, but Jackson had been completely unaware.

The video was long, but Jackson couldn't bring himself to finish watching it before abruptly turning off his phone, unable to bear it.

He couldn't help but wonder that she probably would have sunk forever into the depths of the pool if Gray hadn't jumped in to save her that day.

At that moment, Jackson felt panic and fear like never before, wishing he could punish himself.

Watching Lillian cry uncontrollably, Jackson felt a sharp pain in his heart, torn between distress and helplessness.

He gently wiped away her tears with his thumb, treating her as delicately as he could.

However, the more he wiped, the more tears seemed to emerge.

Jackson embraced the trembling Lillian, holding her tightly as if trying to embed her into his body to ease his guilt and fear.

He stroked her hair and bent down to kiss her gently, comforting her with a soothing tone from childhood.

"Lilian, don't cry. It's my fault. I didn't know you were drowning at that time. I thought you were good at swimming and would be fine, but I forgot that accidents can happen. I made a mistake and upset you. Don't cry, Lilian. Do you want to hit me?"

Lillian nestled in Jackson's arms, her tears staining his chest.

She thought about Lyra's rough acting, which had managed to deceive Jackson. Despite the numerous flaws, Jackson had lingered by the pool for so long, repeatedly diving into the water as directed by Lyra.

It turned out that he knew she had almost been in trouble in the water that day. He was punishing himself and apologizing to her in his way.

Lyra had not misunderstood. Jackson did care about her and did not ignore her safety.

When Lillian fell into the water, she didn't cry like this.

She thought this matter had long passed, but now she realized that the grievances and sadness were not something she could simply digest on her own. She thought that no one cared, so she pretended to be unaffected.

However, they had come to this point, and she shouldn't cling to his tenderness anymore.

Jackson's current tenderness was due to his regard for her as his sister.

Suddenly, Lillian bit down hard on Jackson's chest.

Jackson tensed for a moment and then relaxed, allowing her to bite him like an angry little beast seeking revenge.

After a moment, she slightly loosened her bite, and Jackson let out a long breath.
