Chapter 819
Star bit her lip hard, a flash of regret and reluctance in her eyes.
She knew that with Jackson here, there was no way she could do anything to Lillian.
Star turned around and looked at Jackson.
Jackson's tall and imposing figure exuded an intimidating aura, causing the crowd at the door to automatically step back.
Jackson walked in, and Star, holding Logan, approached him.
"Jackson, what are you doing here?"
Star's expression was one of surprise, but Jackson didn't look at her. He walked straight towards Lillian.
He had just come from the doctor's office when Terry's call came in. He had only stepped out to take the call, and by the time he returned, all this commotion had erupted.
"Are you okay?" Jackson asked softly, taking Lillian's hand.
Lillian shook her head. "I'm fine, but these two officers were misled into thinking I kidnapped Logan."
Her voice was mocking. Jackson wrapped an arm around Lillian's waist and looked at the two officers.
"I already told you, I'm her accomplice. I drove my girlfriend here. Does that make me a suspect too?"
The two officers didn't recognize Jackson, but his demeanor and authoritative tone made it clear he wasn't an ordinary person.
They hesitated and looked back at Star.
"Ms. Price, you called this gentleman by name. Do you know him?"
One of the officers recalled Star calling the man "Jackson." Though he didn't know the name, it rang a bell, making him sweat nervously.
Star clenched her fingers and approached Jackson.
"Jackson, I didn't know you were here. Celine said Lillian suddenly grabbed Logan. I know Lillian has many misunderstandings about me, and she doesn't like Logan's mom, Wendy. Plus, on the day Logan was born... I was so worried about Logan and afraid Lillian might do something impulsive and irreversible. That's why I called the police. I'm sorry, it was a misunderstanding."
Star then turned to the officers.
"It was my mistake. I'm withdrawing the report. Sorry for the trouble."
Star had planned it all. If the police took Lillian away, great. If not, she could still show Jackson how concerned she was for Logan.
And her reason for calling the police was solid. Because of Logan's birth, Jackson couldn't be with Lillian during her labor. Lillian's child didn't survive, and she resented Logan. It was a valid reason to remind Lillian of that night.
The officers nodded and were about to leave when Jackson spoke up.
"Hold on."
The officers stopped and looked at Jackson.
"Shouldn't you take the person who made the false report back for a proper lesson?" Jackson asked coldly.
The officers were taken aback and instinctively looked at Star.
Star was also stunned, her expression turning from grievance to panic. She waved her hands.
"No, I didn't make a false report. I really thought something was wrong. I..."
Jackson cut her off, turning to the officers. "Which precinct are you from? Can't you tell if it's a false report? Do I need to call your chief?"
The officers exchanged uneasy glances. They could tell Star's report was hasty and targeted at the woman in front of them, making their response seem like a joke.
But the Price family wasn't ordinary either, and they couldn't afford to offend them.
One officer was about to say it was a misunderstanding when the other whispered something in his ear.
The officer's expression changed, and he looked at Jackson with apprehension, then changed his tone.
"Mr. Frane is right. Making a false report requires proper education."
He addressed Jackson by name, indicating his colleague had confirmed Jackson's identity.
They turned to Star. "Ms. Price, please come with us."
Just like that, Star found herself in the same position as Lillian moments ago.
Star's face turned pale, and the wound on her forehead suddenly throbbed with pain.
She covered her forehead. "I didn't make a false report. My nephew was taken away, and Celine said Lillian grabbed him without a word and drove off. I was anxious and called the police! Celine, tell them!"
Star pulled Celine forward, who quickly explained.
"Yes, Ms. Price was very worried about Logan. It's my fault for not explaining clearly and forgetting to mention Mr. Frane was here."
Star looked at Jackson, her hand dropping to reveal blood seeping through the bandage on her forehead, looking pitiful.
"Jackson, I was just worried about Logan. I overreacted. It didn't affect Lillian. Do you have to do this to me?"
Tears welled up in her eyes, but Jackson remained unmoved.
"Enough. If you were really worried about Logan, you wouldn't have let him cry this long."
Logan had been crying since the police arrived, frightened and inconsolable.
Now, in Celine's arms, he reached out to Lillian, tears streaming down his face.
Star stiffened and tried to take Logan, but he struggled, hitting both Star and Celine.
"Alright, Ms. Price, come with us," the officer said, stepping forward to pull Star.
They couldn't offend the Price family, but with Jackson backing them, it was different.
Star, realizing Jackson wouldn't relent, shouted at Celine.
"It's Celine's fault for not explaining. Ask her! She can testify I didn't make a false report!"
Celine stepped forward, but Lillian suddenly moved, reaching for Logan.
Logan, clearly fond of Lillian, leaned towards her, and Celine, intimidated by Lillian's fierce gaze, let go.
Logan fell into Lillian's arms, and she held him securely, looking at the officers.
"Sir, I want to file a report too!"
