Chapter 816

When Lillian mentioned Star, it was like a warning bell went off in Jackson's mind.

Jackson even suspected that Lillian was testing him to see if he thought Star was attractive.

Jackson stopped at the intersection and turned to look at Lillian seriously.

"I don't think she's pretty at all. Maybe it's true that a person's appearance reflects their heart. Nowadays, when I look at her, she seems a bit grotesque, nothing like the natural beauty that radiates from my Lillian."

Lillian was speechless, at a loss for words.

Seeing Jackson's desperate look, she reached out and pinched his arm hard.

"You're overthinking it, and you're acting way too guilty!"

If Jackson hadn't been so indulgent with Star in the past, he wouldn't be so nervous now.

So, Lillian didn't feel any sympathy. Instead, her eyes were filled with mockery.

Jackson let her pinch his arm hard, then nodded.

"Whatever you say, I'll accept it."

As he spoke, Jackson extended his arm in front of Lillian. His white shirt sleeve slid up a bit, revealing his lean, attractive wrist.

"How about a bite to vent your anger?"

What Jackson didn't expect was that the next second, Lillian actually lowered her head and bit his wrist hard.

The pain, mixed with a tingling sensation, surged through him.

Jackson gasped lightly, then his lips curved slightly as he relaxed his wrist to make it more comfortable for her to bite.

When the light turned green, Lillian finally let go.

She hadn't broken the skin on Jackson's wrist, but she had left deep teeth marks.

Feeling the uneven texture, Lillian instinctively gave it a light lick before pulling away.

Jackson inhaled sharply again, the veins on the back of his hand gripping the steering wheel stood out, and the car swerved slightly.

"Lillian, stop messing around, I'm driving."

Jackson's voice was low and warning, and Lillian finally let go.

Jackson withdrew his hand and instinctively loosened his tie, unbuttoning one of his shirt buttons.

With his collar slightly open, his Adam's apple moved noticeably as he freed himself from the tight shirt collar.

The movement was smooth and natural.

But when done by someone attractive, whether it was his long, defined fingers loosening the tie, his slender neck slightly raised, or the subtle sound of his Adam's apple moving, it all had a strong visual impact.

Lillian's ears felt warm, and she turned to look out the window.

For a while, no one spoke in the car.

As the car turned onto the road leading to the Price Villa, Lillian brought up the previous topic again.

"Do you think Star might have had plastic surgery? Does she look like she did when she was a kid?"

When Jackson heard her ask this again, he stopped his wild thoughts and considered it seriously.

"Her features are similar to when she was a kid, but her personality has changed a lot. No, it's like she's a completely different person."

Star's personality as a child was somewhat like a boy's—straightforward and bold.

She was responsible and always saw herself as his older sister, constantly competing and wanting to take care of him.

But now, Star seemed to be heading in the opposite direction, desperately clinging to the Frane family.

Lillian frowned slightly. "She's been through a lot, and being imprisoned and tortured for years would change anyone's personality."

Jackson initially thought the same. When Star was found, aside from her appearance, everything else felt unfamiliar to him.

He could no longer see the shadow of his childhood playmate in Star.

He thought that with time, away from that torturous environment, Star's personality would gradually return.

But later events proved that Star had completely changed into someone he didn't recognize.

"When Star first came back, she had amnesia, right? Did you ever doubt her identity?"

Lillian pursed her lips, considering a possibility.

If this Star had indeed had plastic surgery, and it wasn't done after returning to Miracalia, then the truth behind it would be terrifying.

Jackson knew what she was thinking.

He frowned slightly. "Although she had amnesia, she could still remember some things when walking in familiar places. I even helped her recover some memories, and she recalled things only the two of us knew."

That was why Jackson never doubted Star's identity.

Moreover, before bringing Star back, they had done a paternity test with Dominic to ensure her identity was correct.

Hearing Jackson's explanation, Lillian felt she might have been overthinking.

Briar had casually mentioned that Star's face looked like it had undergone surgery, and she had become suspicious.

Maybe Briar was just speaking offhandedly.

"Maybe I'm overthinking it," Lillian said.

Jackson, however, pondered, "A person's true nature is hard to change. Star has been back for a year, and her personality is still completely different from when she was a child. It's strange."

"And given the current situation with the Price family, Dominic isn't grooming Star to be his successor and keeps her out of the Price Group's operations. That doesn't make sense."

Lillian turned to stare at Jackson again.

"Maybe after all these years, the father-daughter relationship has grown distant? Or perhaps Star herself doesn't want to work at the Price Group?"

"Also, Star's mother committed suicide because of her, and Dominic's relationship with his wife was good. Maybe Dominic still resents Star."

So he might be taking it out on Star.

That was not impossible.

Jackson nodded slightly. He didn't care about the emotional dynamics between them.

Jackson was about to say something when his phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the screen and saw it was a call from the servant he had placed in the Price family. He turned to Lillian.

"You answer it. It's probably about Logan."

Jackson had mentioned earlier that if there were any issues with Logan, the servant should contact them immediately.

Lillian had been worried about Logan's condition, so she quickly took Jackson's phone and answered the call.

As soon as the call connected, the servant's panicked voice came through.

"Mr. Frane, something's wrong. Logan suddenly started vomiting and convulsing."

Lillian's heart sank, and she gripped the phone tightly.

"Where are you now? We're on our way!"
