Chapter 266 She Would No Longer Be His Wife
However, just as he closed the office door, Jackson's cold command echoed behind him. "Recently, many employees in the group have been experiencing psychological stress. The Logistics Department is preparing to set up a dedicated psychological regulation room. Since you're so good at reconciling people, go be the regulator. You'll have plenty of time to be a pursuer in the future."
Terry immediately became dejected, wishing he could slap himself.
He knew about the establishment of the regulation room. Employees privately discussed whether it was the Star Group's community association.
He was a top graduate with dual degrees in finance and investment from a world-renowned university! Was he really going to be demoted to a community association's regulator?
Terry gritted his teeth and thought that Jackson had better hold on and not chase after Lillian to the airport. If he chased, he would be a pursuer, even worse than Terry!
Terry left, and Jackson continued to look at the report in front of him, his expression unchanging.
In just a moment, he pulled over a stack of planning documents beside him, becoming increasingly irritated as he read. Jackson's brows finally couldn't suppress the forced calm. He raised his hand to rub his temples and pushed away all the documents in front of him. He leaned back in his chair, forcefully loosening his tie. After a while, he leaned forward again, opened the drawer, and reached for the diary at the bottom. But as soon as his fingers touched the leather cover, he stopped, irritably kicking the drawer shut.
Terry said there was no major issue between him and Lillian and asked him to explain to her about Wendy. However, he had said before that Wendy's child wasn't his. Lillian knew that, too, but she didn't care. She didn't love him and just wanted to leave, which was the biggest problem.
During this time, he didn't want a divorce nor wanted to let go, making his desire to keep her very clear. But she was heartless, not caring at all.
Jackson didn't believe that after trying to keep Lillian for over a month, going to the airport now would change her mind. In the past, he had misunderstood that she drugged him to stay in the Frane family and used that as a reason to trap her in marriage. But now, she was innocent of that incident, and she was unhappy in the Frane family, holding resentment towards him. When she said she wanted him to show some final affection, it was to let her go.
He still remembered her expression at that time, so sorrowful and earnest, so pale and on the verge of collapse. What else could he do but let go? Could he just watch her suffocate, watch her wither before his eyes?
However, Terry's words also made Jackson extremely restless, more agitated, and flustered than ever before. He felt that if he really let Lillian go today, as Terry said, the next time they met, it would be to get a divorce certificate. She would no longer be his wife, and then she could be with any man openly. The thought of that scene made Jackson feel almost unbearable and drove him mad.
But he did something to save the marriage. He had still left a glimmer of hope for their marriage.
Whether it succeeded or not was up to fate.
Jackson thought, suddenly pushed back his chair to stand up, and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window to light a cigarette. Within just the period to smoke half a cigarette, Jackson came out of the office and ordered in a deep voice, "Notify the Planning Department to hold an additional meeting."
Immediately, the entire Secretarial Department became busy.
At noon, Jackson went to Galaxy Gourmet Hub as planned to have lunch with Gilbert from StarTech.
Galaxy Gourmet Hub had a European architectural style and secluded private rooms. When Jackson arrived in the private room, Gilbert was already there.
It wasn't their first collaboration, and they were familiar with each other. Jackson just nodded at Gilbert and sat down without much small talk, getting straight to business.
Meanwhile, also at Galaxy Gourmet Hub, Shirley got out of the car at the entrance, checked the time, and called Lillian.
Lillian answered quickly, and Shirley spoke apologetically, "Lillian, have you left yet? I can't make it back. The drinking session was delayed. I just arrived and am still waiting for Amelia."
On the other end, Lillian's gentle laughter soon followed. "Don't worry. I've already left. Everything is going smoothly. I'm waiting for your good news. Alright, you take care of your business. I'm hanging up."
As soon as Shirley put her phone in her pocket, Amelia arrived. She grabbed Shirley and reminded her again. "Shirley, remember, Otis doesn't have many hobbies, but he loves drinking. If we drink with him until he's satisfied, everything will be negotiable. Today, we won't talk about anything else; we'll just drink him under the table, and the role will be yours!"
Shirley was still a bit nervous, saying, "Amelia, I may look like I can drink, but my alcohol tolerance is really average."
Amelia patted her and comforted, "That's why I'm here. I can hold my liquor pretty well. Alright, don't hesitate. Otis might already be here!"
