Chapter 621
A slim figure was chillin' on the balcony—it was Lillian. She must've heard him freaking out, but she didn't even bother to turn around or say anything.
Jackson's jaw clenched as he stormed out.
"You gotta take care of yourself; you shouldn't be out here in the wind."
He said in a low voice, stepping up to scoop Lillian up.
He felt that Lillian seemed lighter, like she might just float away any second in his arms.
She didn't react at all, just let Jackson carry her back to bed and tuck her in.
"Don't go running off on your own again!" Jackson frowned and added.
Lillian finally looked at him and said, "If I do, you'll lock all the doors and windows, right?"
Jackson's lips pressed into a thin line. "Exactly what you're thinking."
As expected, Lillian gave a mocking smile.
"Why didn't you answer when I called you earlier?"
Jackson, for some reason, couldn't stand the sudden silence and asked casually.
"Are you scared I'll run away? Or that I'll jump off the building?" Lillian shot back coldly.
She stared at him, her eyes full of mockery.
Jackson paused, raising his hand to rub his brow. "Lillian, do you have to be so sharp with me?"
"You can let me go and find someone who talks nicer, like Star."
Lillian's gaze fell on Jackson's right shirt cuff.
Following her line of sight, Jackson saw a bit of red on the exposed white shirt cuff.
It was a woman's lipstick.
He frowned, realizing it must've happened when he shook off Star downstairs at the hospital.
Feeling a bit flustered, he quickly said, "Lillian, I didn't go to see Star, this is..."
But before he could finish, Lillian cut him off, "I don't care who you went to see; that's your business. I just wanna know, have you found anything?"
Jackson's eyes froze as he stared at Lillian.
He saw her blank face, as calm as still water.
She used to care a lot about Star, but now, she might actually be hoping he'd go find another woman and leave her alone.
He looked like he had swallowed bitter medicine,, the taste spreading from his lips to his entire body.
After a while, Jackson finally spoke in a hoarse voice, "So far, the clues haven't led to anything."
Lillian chuckled, no longer feeling disappointed.
She just looked at him and said, "If you find anything, can you tell me right away?"
At this moment, her tone was the calmest it had been in days.
Jackson nodded. "Okay."
"Can you promise not to hide anything from me?" Lillian, seemingly uneasy, asked again.
Jackson sat down by the bed, reaching out to stroke her head, but then switched hands, remembering the stain on his cuff.
"I won't hide anything from you, don't worry."
He used his left hand to smooth Lillian's hair, but she turned over and lay down with her back to him, silently indifferent.
Night fell.
Lillian didn't want to sleep with Jackson, and Jackson only returned to the guest room after watching her fall asleep.
Around two or three in the morning, Harry suddenly pushed open the door.
Jackson was a light sleeper, and without Harry calling out, he was already up, his deep eyes sharp like a hawk's in the dark.
He got out of bed and quickly walked to the door.
"Is there movement at the hospital?"
Harry nodded and reported, "Yeah, someone sneaked into the ward, and we've caught them."
