Chapter 855
Jackson gritted his teeth, a dark expression flashing across his face. He quickly pecked Lillian's hand before standing up abruptly and storming towards the door.
He was determined to see who dared to interrupt them.
The hospital room door was yanked open, and Terry stood outside, his hand raised, almost knocking into Jackson.
Terry quickly pulled his hand back, thinking that if he had knocked, his fingers might have shattered from the cold.
"You better have a good reason for this!"
Jackson's tone was harsh, clearly frustrated from being interrupted.
Terry lowered his head, not daring to look into the room, and quickly said, "It's the police."
As he glanced down, he accidentally noticed Jackson's pants, seeing evidence of his frustration.
Terry quickly changed his tone, "Actually, it's not that urgent. I can come back later..."
He started to turn away.
Lillian, sitting on the hospital bed and already composed, heard Terry mention the police and knew it was related to her.
She quickly spoke up, "Terry, come in and sit down. Tell us slowly."
Terry hesitated, unsure where to step. He still didn't dare look up, feeling Jackson's gaze like a sharp knife.
Terry wanted to go in, knowing he'd be safe with Lillian there. But without Jackson's permission, he didn't dare.
Just as Terry was debating whether to refuse, Jackson finally moved aside.
"Come in, do I need to invite you?"
Jackson's voice was icy. Terry chuckled nervously and shuffled into the room, choosing a spot close to the bed.
He hoped Lillian's presence would protect him.
"Mrs. Frane, are you feeling better? I've been wanting to see you. You've survived such a disaster; surely, good fortune will follow."
Lillian smiled, "Thank you for your kind words. Have a seat, don't just stand there."
Terry pulled up a chair, sitting cautiously on the edge.
No sooner had he sat down than Lillian spoke again.
"Are you thirsty? Jackson, could you get him some water?"
Lillian noticed Terry's dry lips and guessed he had been busy and tired these past few days.
Lillian asked Jackson to pour water for Terry, but Jackson did not respond. Terry, however, almost slipped off his chair in surprise.
"No, no, I can't let Mr. Frane get me water, I..."
He started to stand, but Jackson's hand pressed down on his shoulder.
"Sit."
Terry had no choice but to sit, watching in shock as Jackson, usually so high and mighty, actually went to get him a glass of water.
Terry felt like he was dreaming. He hadn't even drunk the water yet, and he was already floating.
"Terry, what did the police say?" Lillian's voice brought him back to reality. He looked at her with admiration, as if she were a goddess.
"Mrs. Frane, the police detained Anouk the day after your incident and have been interrogating her nonstop. But Anouk seemed prepared and kept her mouth shut. The officer just called to say they have to release her because the detention period is over. However..."
At that moment, Jackson handed Terry the water.
"Thanks, Mr. Frane."
Terry accepted it, feeling honored. Usually, Jackson might hand him a bottle of water during fieldwork, but this was different. This was Jackson serving him while he sat.
Terry thought Jackson must be deeply in love to be so obedient to Lillian, and they weren't even married yet. If they did get married, Jackson would probably follow Lillian's every command.
"But what?" Lillian prompted, not hearing the rest of Terry's sentence.
Terry, lost in his thoughts about Jackson, stammered, "But... but..."
Lillian smiled, "Don't be nervous."
She turned to Jackson, "You see, you're too serious. You scare people into silence."
Jackson, helpless, didn't argue with Lillian. Instead, he gave Terry a thin smile.
"Drink your water and take your time."
Terry, seeing Jackson's fake concern, snapped back to work mode.
"But the police almost broke Anouk's psychological defense. Then an officer named Ivan Franklin interrupted. Ivan is suspicious, and the police are watching him to see if they can uncover a network and find the mastermind."
Jackson nodded slightly, not surprised or upset about Anouk's release.
Terry glanced at Lillian, then at Jackson, unsure if he should continue.
Jackson gave him a look, "Go on."
Terry continued, "Anouk's car was rear-ended by a truck on the way back to Hilltop Mansion, lost control, and crashed into Mirror Lake. There's probably already a video online."
Lillian was stunned, grabbing Jackson's hand.
"You..."
She wanted to ask if Jackson had arranged it, but it seemed unnecessary. Another car crash into Mirror Lake? It couldn't be a coincidence.
Terry stood up, "That's all. Mrs. Frane, rest well. I'll be going."
He didn't ask Jackson but directly addressed Lillian.
Lillian nodded, "Thank you."
Terry waved and quickly left.
With the door closed, Lillian looked at Jackson.
"Will this cause you trouble?"
Such an obvious act of revenge, who wouldn't know it was Jackson?
Lillian's worried look made Jackson feel content.
He pulled her close, "Hard to say. If they take me in for questioning, will you comfort me?"
With no one else around, Jackson immediately switched to a playful mode.
Lillian, seeing him joke, felt that her worry was unnecessary. She rolled her eyes. "You should be taken in. I don't want a lawless boyfriend."
Jackson feigned hurt, flicking her nose.
"Heartless."
As they teased each other, a commotion suddenly erupted outside.
