Chapter 429
But bringing it up again after that night would be completely out of line.
Daisy clearly wanted to dredge up the past to embarrass Lillian.
Lillian cut her off, stepping forward and raising her voice. "I'm ready now. We don't need your help. Please wait in the hall."
"Lillian, how dare you interrupt me? And where's Jackson? Why isn't he here yet?" Daisy snapped.
Lillian clenched her hands and calmly replied, "Jackson will be here soon. No need to worry."
She then looked at the two bodyguards behind Daisy. "Please escort Mrs. Daisy Frane to the hall."
Jackson had assigned the bodyguards there to keep Daisy from causing more trouble.
But since Daisy was Jackson's mom, they couldn't lay a hand on her, even if she was being difficult.
Still, they listened to Lillian and stepped forward to escort Daisy away.
Holding back her anger, Daisy glared at Lillian. "The guests are here, and Jackson's nowhere to be seen. Shouldn't you be greeting them?"
"I will. Please go ahead," Lillian replied coolly.
Daisy finally stormed off.
Jenny, however, lingered and snarked, "You've been married for two years and now you want a wedding? Did Jackson agree to the wedding just because you're pregnant? No wonder he hasn't shown up yet."
"Jenny, you always have something nasty to say!" Kevin snapped.
He walked over, grabbed Jenny by the arm, and dragged her away.
Even though Jenny was reluctant, she remembered the last time Jackson made her drink chili water, which left her mouth swollen for days, so she didn't dare stay.
"Kevin, Jackson isn't here yet. Go with Lillian to greet the guests," Gemma instructed. Kevin nodded, not giving Lillian a chance to refuse.
So, Lillian went to the front hall with Kevin and Shirley.
Meanwhile, a private jet finally landed.
As the cabin door opened, Jackson was the first to step out, carrying the feverish Star.
Medical personnel were already waiting on the tarmac.
They immediately approached, and Jackson placed Star in the ambulance.
Just as he was about to leave, Star, who was lying on the stretcher, sensed his presence and tightly gripped Jackson's hand.
Jackson turned back, and Star weakly opened her eyes. Her dry lips moved, and she made a hoarse sound.
"Don't go."
Her eyes were filled with anxiety and fear, and she was in bad shape.
Jackson paused, instinctively checked his watch, then looked at Star and gave her a reassuring smile.
"Star, don't be afraid. These medical personnel will take good care of you. I've already arranged everything at the hospital. Godfather Dominic is waiting there. You'll be with your family soon. It's safe here, trust me. Close your eyes and rest, okay?"
But Star wasn't comforted. She became more anxious and tried to sit up on the stretcher.
"Where is this? I don't want to be here alone. Are you going to leave me?" Star asked worriedly.
She was extremely scared. Jackson's eyes showed some helplessness and frustration, but her last words deeply pained him.
Sixteen years ago, he had indeed left her, leaving her to face those hardships alone, which led to years of suffering.
Jackson's voice was hoarse as he sat beside her and said gently, "I won't leave you. Don't worry. Close your eyes."
