Chapter 859

"Jackson's background is a mess, and this whole thing involves Lilian. Even if we go to Dad, he won't step in. How are we supposed to get justice? I just hope Anouk doesn't hold it against us," Ruby sighed.

Kenneth's face was tight with frustration. "Dad's being unreasonable. Anouk's been calling him 'Grandpa' for over twenty years, and he just kicks her out like that. Lilian must've inherited her grandpa's cold-heartedness! How could she get outsiders to treat Anouk this way? The cops already looked into the brake failure; it was all her foster mom's revenge. What's that got to do with Anouk?"

Ruby wiped her tears. "This is getting out of hand. The real problem is we haven't been able to see Lilian. We don't know how she's doing. If she hasn't woken up yet, it would be awful... Should we tell Dad? If something happens to Lilian, we won't be able to explain it to him."

Kenneth frowned. "I'll call Dad."

He picked up his phone, but Ruby stopped him. "Dad's health isn't great. Let my dad go in person. If Dad gets upset, he can get help right away."

"That's a good idea. You're always so thoughtful," Kenneth nodded.

Ruby smiled gently and stepped aside to make a call.

In Seaspring Valley City, Oberon was in the backyard with Flora, digging up carrots. Flora was enthusiastically digging, muttering to herself, "For Ophelia, for Lilian, we need to dig a lot."

Oberon turned around and saw Flora with dirt on her nose. He nodded, "Alright, we'll make a big pot of carrot stew for Ophelia and Lilian."

He grabbed a towel and wiped Flora's nose. Flora looked up, shaking the dirt off the freshly dug carrots, her eyes shining. "We need to add meat, lots of it, so it smells good."

"Sure, we'll add plenty of meat, both lean and fatty, and have the cook make extra pancakes."

"Then I'll dig some more," Flora nodded eagerly and went back to digging.

Just then, the butler approached. "Mr. Kelly, Mr. Lawson, and his son are here."

Oberon straightened up and looked at the sky. The clouds were low, and a storm was brewing. He told Flora, "I'm going to meet some guests. Don't wander off. The cook will make carrot soup soon."

Flora was too focused on digging to respond. Oberon smiled helplessly, left the garden, took the hot towel from the butler to wipe his hands, and instructed him to stay and watch Flora. Then he walked out of the backyard.

Ruby's father, Ronan Lawson, and her second brother, Tobias Lawson, were waiting in the living room. The Lawson family was much more populous compared to the Kelly family.

Ronan stood up as soon as Oberon entered. "Since Lilian came back, you look better every day. Just now, you looked so energetic, like you've become much younger."

Ronan had been with Oberon for fifty-six years, starting as a driver and assistant, and eventually becoming a shareholder in the company. He was one of Oberon's most trusted people. After Oberon lost his daughter and Flora's condition worsened, Oberon had aged significantly and reduced his involvement in the Kelly Group.

In contrast, Ronan, though a year younger, had a large family and lived a carefree life, even maintaining two mistresses. Life often seemed unfair, with selfish people living more comfortably.

Ronan, with his straight posture and well-maintained appearance, looked much younger than Oberon. Despite his age, he had never left the Kelly Group and often advised Oberon to prioritize family.

Tobias greeted Oberon and pointed to the gifts they brought. "It's been a while since we visited. We brought some supplements and jewelry for Lilian. I heard from Ruby that Lilian is working at The Kelly Media in Miracalia. She just came back and hasn't spent much time with you and Mrs. Kelly. How could you let her go so far? She should work at the Kelly Group. I can personally look after her and ensure no one mistreats her."

Oberon smiled warmly. "Kids have their ideas. Come, I just got some excellent coffee beans. Let's talk in the study."

Tobias helped Oberon to the study. Once there, Oberon made coffee and chatted about the Kelly Group's recent projects. Tobias then brought up Lilian.

Sipping his coffee, Tobias said, "Your coffee-making skills can't compare to Lilian's. Last time I was here, she made me an unforgettable cup. I was hoping she could make me another pot."

Oberon beamed with pride. "It's a shame she's not home now. Next time, I'll have Lilian make you some."

Ronan asked, "Have you been in touch with Lilian recently? How is she adjusting in Miracalia?"

Oberon smiled. "She's fine. She grew up there, after all. Lilian is very filial and video calls us every day without fail."

As Oberon spoke, Ronan sighed in relief. "That's good to hear. There were rumors from Miracalia about Lilian being in a car accident and falling into a lake. I was worried. Since she's been in contact with you, it can't be her."

He turned to Tobias, annoyed. "I told you it couldn't be Lilian. Your friend at the police station must have spread false information."

But Oberon's expression changed drastically. He asked in a trembling voice, "What did you say?"

Ronan waved his hand. "It's nothing. Just that a car fell into a lake in Miracalia, and Tobias's friend mistakenly said it was Lilian. Show Oberon the video."

Tobias handed his phone to Oberon. Oberon took it with shaking hands and walked to his desk to get his reading glasses.

Seeing this, Ronan stood up. "What's wrong? Don't worry. This happened a few days ago. If Lilian has been video calling you, it can't be her."

Oberon, panicked, said, "No, Ambrose said Lilian went on an adventure with friends and couldn't use her phone. I haven't seen her in two or three days."

He quickly put on his glasses and opened the video. The chaotic scene showed a man carrying a woman into an ambulance. Oberon recognized Jackson and then saw Ambrose.

Oberon's hands trembled, and he dropped the phone, falling backward.

"Oberon!"

"Are you okay?"

Ronan and Tobias shouted in unison.
