Chapter 587
Lillian got yanked outta her sleep by her phone blaring like a fire alarm.
Half-asleep, she fumbled around, grabbed the phone, and slapped it to her ear.
"Max's vitals just went haywire! He's been rushed into surgery. You gotta get here, like, now!"
Mila's voice was frantic on the other end. Lillian shot up from the couch, wide awake in an instant.
She hollered for Eulalia, not even bothering to change outta her clothes as she bolted out the door.
Eulalia grabbed a thick coat, sprinted out of her room, and followed Lillian into the elevator.
Lillian wanted to ask Mila for more deets, but all she heard was a bunch of nurses yelling in the background before the call cut off.
Max had been doing better, so what the heck had happened?
As soon as the elevator doors opened, Lillian dialed Arjun, the lead doc, but got no answer.
Then the hospital called, confirming Max was in critical condition and getting emergency treatment.
No more doubts. Lillian dashed out into the storm without a second thought.
Luke, the bodyguard, pulled up in the car, and Mila helped the freaked-out Lillian inside, with Moritz riding shotgun.
They sped outta Elegance Estates, heading for the hospital.
The weather had gone nuts, and the streets were dead, making for a quick drive.
Lillian sat in the back, freaking out, while Eulalia held her hand, trying to calm her down.
"Ms. Young, don't stress. If Arjun's not picking up, he's probably already working on Max. It'll be okay."
Just then, Moritz, on the phone up front, said, "Something's off. Can't reach Mr. Frane."
He thought it was just the crappy weather messing with the signal, but after a couple of tries, he knew something was up.
Luke slowed the car, but it was too late. They hit an intersection, and bam—a blinding high beam hit them.
A truck came outta nowhere, barreling straight for them.
Lillian's eyes went wide, blinded by the light.
"Watch out! Protect Mrs. Frane!"
Voices yelled, but Lillian couldn't tell who. In a split second, the truck smashed into them.
Luke yanked the wheel, making the truck miss Lillian's seat, but it scraped the front and skidded off, crashing into the roadside.
Lillian slammed into the door frame, but Eulalia held her tight, taking most of the hit.
Dizzy, Lillian shouted, "Eulalia!"
Eulalia's head had smacked the window hard. Fighting off the dizziness, Lillian saw blood dripping onto her face.
The truck didn't stop. Its lights swung back, lighting up the blood on Lillian's hand.
This wasn't an accident. It was a hit!
Moritz, in the front seat, got hit bad. His phone flew, and he slumped over, out cold.
Luke shook off the daze, reversed the car, pulled a gun, and fired at the truck's driver.
Tires screeched, and the bullet shattered the truck's window, revealing a familiar, nasty face.
The bullet grazed him, blood streaming down, making him look like a demon.
It was Bob!
Lillian's heart skipped a beat.
Before Luke could fire again, the truck rammed them once more.
Chaos erupted, then everything went eerily quiet.
"Eulalia, Luke!"
Lillian leaned against the window, blood trickling down her forehead.
She murmured, hoping for a response.
What had happened to them?
Why was it so quiet? This can't be real!
It can't be; they can't be gone!
Even if she made it, she couldn't handle losing them!
Tears streamed down her face as she tried to move, but a sharp pain twisted in her gut.
Warm blood was flowing out; something was wrong with Taylor.
