Chapter 566

Lillian stared blankly at Jackson, almost ready to give in and reach out to comfort him.

But she eventually snapped out of it, pushing hard on Jackson's shoulder and frowning. "It's different! Stop trying to confuse me!"

She tried to turn away, but Jackson grabbed her waist again, his expression helpless. "How is it different? Lillian, don't be so cold to me."

Lillian bit her lip, looking down at him and replied, "Max never hurt me!"

Her words didn't directly accuse him, but they reminded him of the hurt he caused her.

Like tiny needles, they pierced Jackson's heart, making his expression stiffen.

Lillian added, "Of course, if you still think I'm cold to you, after we divorce, considering how you took care of me when we were young, I'll definitely look after you if you ever become a vegetable."

Jackson remained silent.

"Let go," Lillian indicated.

Jackson looked at her cold and distant eyes, sighed slowly, and released his grip.

But as he watched Lillian turn away, he couldn't bear it. He pulled her back into his arms and asked, "Lillian, what do I have to do for you to forgive me?"

In her ear, his voice was hoarse, filled with helplessness and frustration.

During this time, he always felt like she was blowing hot and cold. Every time it seemed like her attitude softened a bit, before he could even feel happy, she would pull away again, becoming even more distant.

This feeling made him anxious, almost driving him crazy.

Lillian felt a tightness in her chest. "Jackson, maybe what you feel for me isn't love but possessiveness. Because I used to be your wife and I'm carrying your child, you can't stand the thought of me being with another man after our divorce.

"Or maybe, you're just used to me being humbly stuck in the Frane family. No matter how far you go or how cold you are to me, as long as you come home, I'll be there, under your control. You can't stand losing that control over me.

"Once I reconcile with you, you'll realize that Star is the one who truly suits you and that she's the one you love."

As Lillian spoke, a self-mocking smile tugged at her lips.

In fact, she seemed to have never believed that Jackson loved her.

As Jackson listened to her self-mocking and sarcastic words, his chest heaved, feeling suffocated.

He let go of Lillian, yanked off his tie, and unbuttoned two buttons, his eyes tinged with a thin layer of red. He stared at Lillian, gritting his teeth. "In the past, I didn't believe you liked me and hurt you. Now you don't believe in my love for you. What do I have to do to prove it to you? Rip my heart out and show it to you?"

Jackson captured Lillian's hand, pressing it to his chest.

Under her fingertips, his heartbeat was erratic, like burning fire and anger.

Lillian curled her fingers, avoiding his gaze.

But Jackson cupped her face, forcing her to look at him. He hoarsely continued, "I've known Star for eleven years. We don't have many memories before the age of four, so it's only six or seven years of memories. Why don't you go through our memories together with me?"

Lillian felt his palm burning, his gaze scorching, almost piercing through her.

She shook her head vigorously, struggling, "No, I don't want to."

"I held you when you were born, and you even peed on me," Jackson said.

Lillian didn't want to listen to him. 'What is he even talking about?'
