Chapter 698

Lillian said, "Ruby, why would I think that? Of course, I know you care about me. You wouldn't be targeting me on purpose." She smiled and gave Thalia a wink.

Ruby laughed on the other end, "Lillian, I'm glad you get it. By joining The Kelly Media, it's like your grandparents have put you in my care. If you get too tired or unwell, I wouldn't be able to explain it to them."

Lillian could tell Ruby was trying to show who's boss at The Kelly Media.

Lillian's lips curled into a playful smile. "Don't worry about it. The Kelly Media is part of the Kelly Group. I'm working for my own family, so it's only right to put in some effort. Besides, Grandpa wanted me to gain experience. If you don't let me do anything, it goes against his wishes."

Ruby said, "I was just too worried about you and overthought it. In that case, hand the phone to Thalia, and I'll talk to her."

Lillian sweetly replied, "Thank you."

She handed the phone back to Thalia, who got a few instructions from Ruby before hanging up.

Thalia smiled apologetically at Lillian, "Ms. Kelly, I'm sorry. Ms. Lawson and I were just concerned about your health. Please don't take it the wrong way."

Lillian smiled faintly, "No worries. It must have been tough for you, pretending not to know me even though you do."

Thalia caught the sarcasm in her words, and her smile became more strained. She walked to her desk, changing the subject, "Ms. Kelly, Ms. Lawson has instructed me to give you the most challenging project in the department."

Thalia took a folder from the drawer and handed it to Lillian, saying, "You can take a look at this project. If you can secure it, it will greatly benefit our company's development this year. The two best team leaders in the department have tried but failed to get it."

Lillian took the folder, glanced at it, and her eyes flickered slightly. She looked up, "The Star Group's tenth-anniversary promotional shoot?"

Lillian didn't want to get involved with the Star Group. She used to work as an assistant in the Star Group's president's office, and many employees there knew her.

Handling this project would inevitably lead to interactions.

She and Jackson had a secret marriage and were now divorced, which could lead to complications.

Lillian wondered if Thalia knew about this and deliberately gave her this project. Or worse, was this project specifically designed to make things difficult for her?

If Lillian refused, Thalia would have an excuse to continue sidelining her. After all, it wouldn't be Thalia not giving her a chance; it would be her own refusal.

Thalia nodded, "Yes, you should know that the Star Group is the largest conglomerate in Miracalia. This year is their tenth anniversary. If we can secure this project, our status will be elevated, and we can easily penetrate the Miracalia market. Our celebrities attending the event would also benefit greatly. In short, there are many advantages, and I'm sure you can see that. I believe this project won't be too difficult for you."

Thalia's analysis was thorough and reasonable. Lillian agreed with her points. This was business.

Lillian thought silently, looking at Thalia's encouraging smile, and closed the folder. "Alright, I'll give it a try."

Thalia immediately smiled, "Great, I'll have Doris assist you. We look forward to you securing this project."

As Lillian was about to turn away, Thalia sat down and reminded her, "By the way, Ms. Kelly, please knock before entering next time. Thank you."

Lillian paused, smiling, "I did knock. You were too focused on your call and might not have heard. I came in to get my phone. See, I accidentally left it on the chair."

Lillian pointed to the chair, and Thalia saw the phone on the edge. Lillian picked it up and waved it.

Thalia's face stiffened. "I see. Well, good luck."

Lillian nodded, walked to the door, then suddenly turned back to Thalia. "Ms. Fairchild, please call me by my name in the office. Thank you."

With that, Lillian ignored Thalia's unpleasant expression, opened the door, and left.

Lillian returned to her desk and briefly reviewed the project proposal, which was rough and lacked creativity. She set it aside, planning to redo it. Her phone buzzed, and she glanced at it.

It was another text from an unknown number.

Lillian sighed but opened it.

[Lillian, when are you going to treat me to a meal?]

Jackson had helped her before, and she had promised to treat him.

She thought for a moment, picked a random restaurant, and set the time for lunch.

Jackson replied almost instantly: [I'll pick you up from your office at noon.]

Jackson's flashy car would draw attention, and Lillian didn't want that.

Lillian: [No need, let's meet at the restaurant.]

To her surprise, the reply was: [Sorry, who is this?]

Lillian: [What?]

The person replied: [Are you looking for Mr. Frane? He just borrowed my phone. Should I give it back to him?]

Lillian was speechless at the new message.

She awkwardly replied: [No need, sorry to bother you.]

At the Star Group's president's office, Jackson looked at Lillian's message, his lips curling in satisfaction as he deleted the message.

Jackson handed the phone and a signed document to the secretary standing by his desk. "I'm done. Thank you."

The secretary quickly took it, "You're welcome, Mr. Frane."

As the secretary left, Terry, who was waiting to report, couldn't help but speak, "Mr. Frane, borrowing employees' phones isn't ideal. Should I get you some phone cards?"

Jackson used to be very professional and would never do something as absurd as using an employee's phone to pursue a woman.

Terry felt this tarnished Jackson's impeccable image.

Jackson flipped through the proposal on his desk, "Give the secretary department an extra two months' bonus this month."

Terry, also part of the secretary department, quickly changed his tone, "Actually, sending a few texts from an employee's phone isn't a big deal. Mrs. Frane will probably block you soon anyway, so it won't happen often."

Jackson nodded in agreement.

Lillian was about to leave for lunch when Ambrose called. She answered.

Ambrose asked cheerfully, "Lillian, are you off work? I booked a restaurant. I'll pick you up to celebrate your new job."

She packed her things and politely declined, "I'll just grab something simple. It's not a big deal, no need to celebrate."

Ambrose's voice rose slightly, "Not worth celebrating? Joining the Kelly Group is significant. Should we call Grandpa and ask him?"
