Chapter 547
"You only rely on me because I saved you," Jackson said, his voice cold and indifferent.
Star stared blankly at Jackson, her eyes showing a hint of struggle and confusion.
"Is that so?" she said after a while, dazed.
Jackson nodded. Star bit her lip, lowered her head, and after a moment, asked again, "Do you love Lilian?"
"Yes, I love her. We had many misunderstandings in the past, and I did many things that hurt her, which led to our divorce. But I never thought about truly separating from her, nor did I ever consider giving any other woman a chance. My wife, my love, can only be her in this lifetime." Jackson's words were firm and unequivocal.
Star's face grew paler. She took two steps back, held onto the desk, and after a long time, gave a bitter smile. "I really envy Lilian."
Jackson's lips pressed together as he said self-deprecatingly, "But she is not happy."
Star sniffed, bent down, and picked up the scattered documents on the floor.
"I understand now," she said softly. "I have my pride too. Jackson, don't worry, I will seriously consider going abroad.
"Before I make a decision, I won't bother you anymore. I'm sorry for causing you trouble during this time."
Her expression was desolate and sorrowful, with tears still on her face, but there seemed to be a bit more clarity in her eyes.
Jackson breathed a slight sigh of relief and nodded. "Star, I brought you back because I hope you can get your life back on track. Going abroad to improve your skills, to gain the knowledge you've missed over the years, and to come back and take control of the Price Group, that's what you should really be doing.
"If you're worried about living abroad, I can arrange for a couple more personal assistants for you, and I can introduce you to some friends there who will take care of you. You were so excellent and smart as a child; you just need to regain your confidence, and you'll adapt quickly."
Star looked at Jackson and suddenly lowered her head and smiled. "You've never said so much to me in one go. To persuade me to go abroad, you really went to great lengths."
"I don't want to force you," Jackson said in a deep voice.
But Star picked up on the underlying meaning of his words. Out of respect for their past relationship, he would discuss it with her first, but if she still refused in the end, he might resort to force.
Star's breath hitched slightly, and she clutched the documents tightly. "I don't know much about these schools. I'll show them to my dad when I get home. You go ahead with your meeting; I won't disturb you."
Star left the office, and Jackson raised his hand to press his temples slightly, instructing Terry, "She won't be working at Star Group anymore. Remind her to go to HR to handle her resignation."
Terry understood Jackson's meaning. Once the resignation was processed, if Star came back, she would have to go through the normal appointment procedures and couldn't just come upstairs freely.
Terry acknowledged and quickly went after Star.
He caught up with Star in front of the elevator. Hearing Terry's words, Star didn't make a fuss and nodded before heading to the HR department.
Terry, however, turned and quickly entered the stairwell. He took out his earphones, put them on, and grabbed his phone.
He opened the photo album and played a video clip he had secretly recorded in the corner of the office.
After hesitating for a long time, he finally made up his mind and sent the video to Lillian.
Secretly recording Jackson and Star's conversation was risky. Sending it without Jackson's knowledge could have bad consequences.
But after Jackson and Lillian had a falling out, Jackson was in a low mood every day, and Terry had had enough. Moreover, as a fan of their love, he felt he had to do something.
Terry believed that Jackson and Lillian were just lacking trust. He hoped that this video would give Lillian more confidence in Jackson.
