Chapter 845

Jackson's handsome face was filled with anxiety, his eyes bloodshot, and his chin covered in stubble.

It wasn't just a bit of scruff; it was a full-on, short, rough, and dark beard.

Lillian had never seen him look so disheveled and worn out.

Lillian was stunned, her eyelashes fluttering as she raised her hand to touch Jackson's face.

Her voice was hoarse. "Why do you look so awful? I almost didn't want to wake up."

She realized she must have been unconscious for more than a day.

Jackson was speechless. He hadn't expected her first words upon waking to be like this.

He took Lillian's hand and pressed it against his face, rubbing it deliberately.

His rough stubble scratched against her soft, delicate fingers and palm, causing a mix of pain and tickling.

It was uncomfortable yet very real. Lillian couldn't help but curl her fingers and laugh, looking at him with pleading eyes, her lips curving into a smile while her eyes reddened.

The fear and panic she felt before losing consciousness in the water came rushing back like a tidal wave.

"You heartless girl, I watched over you for two days and nights without even changing my clothes, and you call me ugly?"

Jackson raised his hand and pinched Lillian's cheek.

Lillian reached out and gently touched Jackson's bloodshot eyes.

So, she had been unconscious for two days and nights.

No wonder Jackson looked so exhausted. Had he been by her side the whole time?

Tears welling up in Lillian's eyes, her lips moved again.

"I was just kidding. Even if you turned into an old man with gray hair, you'd still be handsome."

She smiled, but tears silently rolled down her cheeks.

They were tears of joy, grateful to be alive and to see him again.

Jackson's heart ached even more, especially when he thought about diving into the river to save Lillian.

Through the car window, she lay in the sealed car, eyes closed, looking lifeless.

At that moment, he felt like he was sinking into a dark, icy abyss, the fear almost driving him mad.

Jackson had broken the window and pulled Lillian out, giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in the water, but she remained unresponsive.

When he brought her to shore and performed CPR, his vision was blurred.

He truly thought he was too late, that he had lost her, that his misjudgment had cost her...

He couldn't bear to recall those moments, fearing he would go mad and scare the newly awakened Lillian.

He restrained himself, leaning down to kiss away Lillian's tears, his voice hoarse.

"You scared me to death. How are you going to make it up to me?"

Lillian hugged him, unable to speak, her throat choked with emotion.

She felt Jackson's tall body trembling slightly.

He wasn't lying; he had been terrified.

Lillian patted Jackson's back, whispering in his ear.

"Don't be afraid. You saved me."

Jackson released her and looked up. "I saved you?"

Lillian thought he looked adorably silly and nodded emphatically with a smile.

But Jackson continued, "How will you repay me for saving your life?"

Lillian arched an eyebrow, refusing to follow his lead, and instead raised her chin slightly.

"A boyfriend saving his girlfriend is only natural. How come you, as my boyfriend, don't have that awareness? Bad review."

Lillian playfully drew a cross on Jackson's handsome face with her finger.

Jackson's eyes darkened, and he grabbed her small hand.

"But a boyfriend needs a reward too, Ms. Kelly."

Lillian instinctively held Jackson's hand, noticing something was off. She looked down at his right hand.

"What happened to your hand?"

She saw Jackson's hand wrapped in thick white bandages.

Jackson had injured his hand while breaking the car window underwater, the glass cutting deep into his skin.

Jackson extended his bandaged hand, smiling without hiding it.

"This is my medal of honor for saving you. Aren't you going to reward me?"

Lillian looked at his hand, her eyes filled with pain.

She leaned up, wrapped her arms around Jackson's neck, and kissed him.

It wasn't like their previous shy, tentative kisses.

This time, she was bold and passionate, breaking through Jackson's lips and entangling with him, igniting him.

Filled with endless affection and intense love.

Jackson was stunned, almost losing his ability to react.

He was too surprised. Lillian had transformed into a captivating siren in the water.

Jackson felt his heart and soul being drawn to her, his blood boiling under his skin, pooling in his sensitive lower abdomen.

He was dazed for a long moment before he remembered to respond to her passion.

Just as his large hand cupped the back of Lillian's neck, the hospital room door burst open, and a cheerful voice rang out.

"When are you two going to stop being so lovey-dovey? You're driving me crazy!"

It was Shirley.

Lillian, startled, quickly opened her eyes and pushed Jackson away.

When she saw not only Shirley but also Ambrose and the doctor and nurses entering, her face turned bright red.

She was so embarrassed that she wanted to hide under the covers.

She had only been bold once, but now so many people had witnessed it.

Lillian feared the nurses would gossip about her.

[Shocking! Woman wakes from coma, immediately ravenous!]

Lillian was so embarrassed that she wanted to dig a hole in the hospital bed with her toes. She glared at Jackson, blaming him for not warning her that so many people were waiting outside.

She seriously suspected Jackson had done it on purpose to make her a laughingstock.

However, Jackson met her gaze with a calm expression, even licking his lips as if savoring the kiss, before standing up and turning around.

He glared at Shirley with obvious displeasure, annoyed that she had ruined his moment.

He had sided with Shirley, even offending his good friends, but this was how she repaid him.

"Mr. Frane, let the doctor check on Lillian first."

Lillian had been running a fever for the past two days, with water in her lungs causing inflammation. She hadn't woken up, and Shirley's eyes were red and swollen from crying.

She pushed Jackson aside and ushered the doctor in.

The doctor performed a quick examination and confirmed that Lillian had pulled through and was out of danger.

After the doctor and nurses left, Lillian opened her arms to Shirley.

Shirley immediately went over and hugged Lillian, tears streaming down her face, as she lightly slapped Lillian.

"You almost... I didn't know where my soul was for the past two days!"

Lillian hugged Shirley, feeling that she had lost weight and looked just as worn out as Jackson.

Lillian's heart warmed, knowing she had worried them, and she obediently accepted the scolding.

Shirley was about to slap her again when two voices rang out from behind.

"Ms. James, be gentle."

"Get your big hands off her!"
