Chapter 860
Ronan and Tobias gasped, but it was like they were frozen, neither moving to help Oberon.
Luckily, there was a chair right behind Oberon, so instead of hitting the floor, he collapsed heavily into the seat.
Oberon clutched his chest, his face twisted in pain.
Ronan rushed forward, worry written all over his face. "Oberon! Where's your medicine? What do we do? Tobias, hurry and find his medicine!"
Tobias snapped out of his daze and started frantically searching the table. When he couldn't find the emergency medication, he dropped to his knees and began rummaging through the drawers, scattering their contents all over the floor. Despite their efforts, they found nothing, and the room was filled with the sound of Oberon's labored breathing.
It wasn't until Oberon's eyes rolled back and he passed out completely that Ronan seemed to remember something. He shouted at Tobias, "Go get help!"
By the time the butler arrived with the private doctor, ten minutes had passed. The doctor lived in the guest house nearby, which was the only reason he could get there so quickly.
The butler ushered the anxious Ronan and Tobias out of the room, closing the door behind them to block out the scene of the emergency treatment.
But before the door shut, Tobias saw the doctor shining a flashlight into Oberon's eyes.
Oberon didn't react at all. Tobias turned to Ronan. "Dad, Mr. Kelly isn't going to..."
"Don't talk nonsense! He's got a lot of luck on his side; he'll pull through."
But there was no sound of successful resuscitation from inside. Instead, the butler rushed out again to call for more help and an ambulance, adding to the chaos.
Twenty minutes later, Ronan and Tobias watched as Oberon was carried into the ambulance.
They left the Kelly Manor and got into their car.
Tobias couldn't hold back any longer. "Dad, do you think he'll make it? He looked like he wasn't breathing back there."
Ronan frowned at him, then glanced at the driver.
The look was a clear warning.
Tobias shrugged it off. "Dad, you're being overly cautious. The driver has been with us for years; he's one of us..."
"Shut up! If I weren't cautious, would you be sitting here with your current status, acting all high and mighty? Wipe that look off your face!"
Ronan's stern reprimand silenced Tobias. Though he still felt indifferent, he quickly masked his expression. "You're right, Dad. Don't worry, when we get to the hospital, I'll act like I just lost my father."
Ronan turned and smacked him on the head. "Are you cursing me?"
"Dad, that's not what I meant! It's not!"
Tobias pleaded, then quickly changed the subject. "Dad, do you think Oberon could be faking it? He's a tough old guy, always has been. Could something like this knock him out?"
Ronan had his doubts, too. He'd known Oberon his whole life and knew better than anyone how resilient the man was.
Someone like Oberon, who had weathered countless storms, shouldn't be so easily shaken.
But then he remembered the chaos at the Kelly Manor when they left. Even Flora was standing alone in the yard, crying, with no one to comfort her.
Flora was Oberon's most cherished person. Even in her confused state, Oberon took meticulous care of her.
If Oberon were faking it, he would have made sure Flora was taken care of first.
Ronan shook his head. "Maybe it's real. Lillian was lost for so many years, and they finally found her. She was so filial and charming, and Oberon adored her. Now she's gone, and he can't even face his precious daughter. It's understandable if he can't take it."
"Plus, Oberon's health has been poor these past few years. He endured a lot when he was younger. He's only held on this long because he was worried about his only granddaughter. Finding out she was fake and then losing the real one... anyone would break."
Ronan's analysis seemed to ease his mind a bit.
Tobias nodded. "You're right, Dad. If Oberon can't recover this time, the company will be in turmoil. It'll be up to you to stabilize things. You have to take care of yourself."
Ronan sighed. "Oberon worked hard his whole life. Maybe it's time for him to rest. When we get to the hospital, watch and say little."
He meant for Tobias to observe if Oberon was truly done for.
Tobias understood and gave Ronan a knowing look.
He couldn't hide his excitement. If something happened to Oberon...
The Kelly Group was already heavily influenced by the Lawson family, with Kenneth being their son-in-law.
If Oberon fell, Ambrose, who had no blood relation to the Kelly family, wouldn't stand a chance.
No matter how capable Ambrose was, he couldn't withstand the combined pressure from all of them.
Thinking about the future, where the Kelly Group would become the Lawson Group, Tobias couldn't contain his excitement.
When they arrived at the hospital, Oberon was already in surgery. The butler was on the phone, trying to reach Ambrose.
"Mr. Ambrose Kelly, please come back quickly. Without you, there's no one to sign for Mr. Oberon Kelly's surgery. What are we going to do? Please, hurry!"
The butler was frantic. Ronan and Tobias exchanged a glance, feeling more convinced by the moment.
