Chapter 227 Be a Good Ex-Husband.

Wronged?

How could Lillian not feel wronged? She was wrongly accused for four years.

That night, she clearly did nothing wrong, but overnight, she became the object of ridicule and gossip in the upper class of Miracalia.

She became a wanton woman who had slept with Jackson deliberately and had been despised by everyone for four years.

She was the target of inexplicable accusations, accused by everyone of being ungrateful, dishonest, and insatiably greedy.

At that time, she didn't mind being misunderstood and insulted by everyone as long as Jackson could believe her.

However, Jackson didn't. He looked at her like everyone else did, dragging her into hell beyond redemption.

She had no one to tell her grievances to.

Now, he was willing to believe her, but she no longer wanted it.

Lillian raised her eyes, with no hint of tears in them, just a sense of emptiness and desolation.

She smiled and said, "It doesn't matter anymore. I've been insulted for four years, seen as a stain on you by everyone. Now that we're divorced, so I don't have to be a sinner anymore."

Jackson felt like his blood was frozen by Lillian's words, his face turning pale.

He would rather have her yell at him, kick at him, go crazy, and cry than have her so calmly tell him it was all in the past.

His thin lips moved, and he wanted to explain to her why he couldn't believe her back then.

However, after hearing those words, he felt as if his heart was rolling on a blade, causing him intense pain.

Regardless, it was his failure to believe her, to cruelly push her away when she was most in need of his protection, just like everyone else.

His heart ached, yet he had no words to defend himself.

"I will find out the truth, Lillian," After a while, Jackson spoke barely.

He wanted to apologize and had more words to say, but Lillian didn't give him the chance to speak.

She nodded calmly and interrupted him, "It's up to you. The truth doesn't matter to me anymore."

After all, she had experienced both what she should have and shouldn't have endured.

After having experienced everything, she didn't want to reopen those wounds for others to see again.

Lillian pushed away from Jackson, got off his lap, and smiled again. "Thank you anyway. At least, you chose to believe me without fully investigating, which is a small consolation for me."

Jackson felt a sharp pain in his heart, grabbing Lillian's hand and furrowing his brow. "I'm sorry. I should have figured all this out earlier. I should have stayed and listened to you more back then."

After the incident, he didn't know how to face her, so he chose to avoid her.

It had been almost a year since he last saw her.

When the wound had festered, no one wanted to bring it up again. Even though Lillian had explained later, he didn't want to delve deeper and investigate thoroughly.

"It's okay. You're a victim too, so there's no need to apologize to me." Lillian shook her head, smiling.

Jackson looked into her eyes, which were clear and clean, without a hint of resentment.

At this moment, she was as obedient as the girl in his memory, standing behind him softly, as if she would never be angry with him, always admiring and accommodating him endlessly.

But this didn't make Jackson feel any better. Instead, it filled him with a sense of powerlessness and frustration that he couldn't get rid of.

Jackson's expression remained cold, but his grip tightened.

He held Lillian's wrist tightly as if trying to hold onto her, but Lillian still gently pulled her hand back, smiling and saying, "Jackson, if you really feel sorry, can you promise me one thing?"

"Okay, I promise." Jackson agreed without hesitation, as if afraid that Lillian would retract this opportunity for compensation even a second later.

Lillian nodded. "Then promise me to be a good ex-husband from now on."
