Chapter 41 Jackson’s Mistress
Lilian lingered in anticipation of Jackson's response, clutching desperately at a faint glimmer of hope. She yearned for him to assure her, face to face, that the child Wendy carried was not his. However, the silence that stretched out behind her was deafening, devoid of any comforting words from the man she sought solace from.
Tears welled up in Lilian's eyes, a chill creeping into her heart. After what seemed like an eternity, she gently extricated her hand from Jackson's grasp and sat up, only to find him fast asleep. She was left to wonder whether he had missed her heartfelt plea or if there was simply nothing left to explain.
Drained, Lilian tenderly draped a blanket over him before leaving the bedroom. She made her way to the activity room on the third floor, her heart heavy with uncertainty.
Upon opening the door, she was greeted by the sight of a large claw machine. The machine had been a fixture in the room for many years, its once vibrant colors now faded and out of place amidst the refined elegance of the activity room.
Jackson had brought it home when Lilian was just nine years old. She struggled to recall why she had been upset at the time, but she remembered vividly how Jackson had tried to cheer her up by attempting to win a toy from the claw machine. Despite spending over fifty dollars, they had failed to secure even a single toy.
Lilian had teased her brother about his lack of skill, but Jackson had insisted that it was not a matter of technique, but rather the low odds set by the claw machine. Lilian had been skeptical, but the very next day, her competitive brother had managed to procure the same claw machine, this time boasting a one hundred percent success rate.
In no time, Jackson had filled an entire couch with plush toys for Lilian. Despite her delight, she had feigned disappointment, claiming that he had taken the fun out of her favorite claw machine.
In response, Jackson had created a small program that allowed him to adjust the machine's odds via his phone. From then on, the claw machine became Lilian's personal Doraemon, a source of comfort during her moments of sadness and a provider of pleasant surprises during her moments of joy.
As her birthday approached each year, Lilian would find herself gazing at the claw machine in anticipation, eager to see what special gift it would yield. When she moved from Frane House to Peace Mansion after her marriage, the claw machine was the only item she brought along.
However, after their relationship soured four years ago, Lilian stopped retrieving gifts from the claw machine. That was why she was taken aback when she discovered that Jackson had secretly stashed this year's gift inside it.
Crouching down, she felt around under the claw machine and found several specially customized game tokens. Half an hour later, a pile of gift boxes lay at Lilian's feet. Of all the boxes she opened, only four contained something.
Among the gifts were a wedding ring and a pair of earrings, items that Jackson must have placed there in the past few days. The other two items were a birthday gift and a wedding anniversary gift - a luxurious diamond-studded watch and a miniature camera.
Upon opening the camera, Lilian found a video recording of a birthday message. The message was from her idol, the renowned Australian music maestro Cash, who had not made a public appearance in a long time. His words of encouragement and blessings brought a glimmer of light into Lilian's world.
When the birthday blessing found its way to Jackson, it must have been a labor of love. Lilian cradled the camera in her arms, a whirlwind of excitement and deep emotion swirling within her at the encouragement from her idol.
It was akin to the gentle tickle of a feather, a delightful itch in the depths of her heart that she found herself unable to suppress.
In that moment, she chose to momentarily set aside Jackson's transgressions, deciding to nurse him back to health as a gift to him.
Gift in hand, she tread lightly back to the bedroom, intending to check if Jackson's fever had subsided. However, the sound of rustling from the changing room gave her pause.
Could it be an intruder?
Unlikely, given the stringent security measures of Peace Mansion.
Perhaps it was Tina, having discovered Jackson's illness?
As Lilian approached the changing room, she passed a low cabinet and absentmindedly picked up a broom.
Upon entering, she was met with a sight she hadn't anticipated.
It was Wendy.
She was rifling through a drawer, a pair of men's underwear in her hand. At the sound of Lilian's entrance, she spun around, her eyes meeting Lilian's in a moment of surprise.
"Why are you here, Sister? Jackson told me you had moved out and asked me to look after him... I'm truly sorry, if I had known you were returning, I wouldn't have come."
Lilian's heart surged with anger, her grip on the broom handle trembling.
Jackson's mistress had brazenly entered their home.
Caught off guard and still basking in the joy of her earlier discovery, this revelation was a crushing blow, freezing her in her tracks.
"How did you get in?!" she demanded.
Wendy offered a smile, "Of course I can get in. Someone shared the password with me. I must admit, I didn't expect the password to be my birthday."
This was the home Lilian and Jackson had shared after their marriage, the password set by Jackson himself. Lilian had always assumed it was a combination of her birthday and their wedding anniversary, but now, she realized it could very well be Wendy's birthday.
Lilian was a tempest of fury and confusion.
But Wendy wasn't content with merely provoking her. She continued, "By the way, sister, Jackson isn't fond of this brand of condoms. They're not thin or light enough, the experience isn't that great. But have you and Jackson been using contraceptives all along? You seem to have quite a stock."
As she spoke, Wendy pulled out a box of condoms from the drawer, waving them tauntingly at Lilian.
