Chapter 675
In the end, Jackson just sat there in the passenger seat, not saying a word.
As the car took off, Lillian, sitting on the back seat, reached out and pulled Shirley close, letting her rest on her shoulder.
"You probably haven't slept well these past couple of days. Don't think about anything, just get some sleep. I'll wake you when we get there," Lillian said softly, her voice like a gentle lullaby.
Shirley leaned into Lillian, turned her head, and hugged Lillian's waist, almost burying herself in Lillian's embrace.
Lillian looked down, smiling, and patted Shirley's shoulder.
Terry was driving, and he glanced at Jackson beside him.
The look Jackson was giving Shirley through the rearview mirror could almost set things on fire.
Terry was really worried that if this kept up, Jackson might throw Shirley out of the car, so he spoke up, "Mrs. Frane, long time no see. You look even more stunning than before, absolutely gorgeous."
With outsiders present, Shirley clearly didn't want to talk and had already closed her eyes, leaning against Lillian.
The once lively and energetic Shirley was now so quiet that Lillian's heart ached for her.
She understood why Shirley had wanted to lash out at Jackson before.
Hearing Terry's words, Lillian snapped out of her daydream of beating up Gray and looked at Terry with a smile. "Terry, you have a way with words, always knowing how to please others."
Terry felt a bit flattered, but the next second, he felt the gaze that had been directed at the back seat now shift entirely to him.
Terry almost hit the gas pedal and rear-ended the car in front.
"Focus on driving," Jackson frowned.
Terry felt like he was sitting on pins and needles, his hands sweating on the steering wheel.
Was Lillian impressed with him, or was she deliberately trying to get him in trouble? He hadn't offended Lillian, had he?
But the next second, Terry realized how he had offended Lillian because she smiled at him again.
Lillian said, "Terry, I've been divorced from your boss for a long time. Shouldn't you change the way you address me to avoid any misunderstandings?"
Terry wanted to change his address, but Jackson was also in the car, exuding an increasingly cold aura.
For the sake of his year-end bonus and early retirement, Terry gritted his teeth and smiled sincerely at Lillian. "You're right! By the way, Mrs. Frane, where are you and Ms. James headed?"
As soon as Terry finished speaking, he pretended to be shocked and immediately showed an apologetic expression, "Mrs. Frane, you see, I'm so used to calling you that, it's hard to change all of a sudden. I'm sorry!"
Lillian remained silent.
Had Terry gone to acting school during the four months?
Lillian replied with a faint smile, "To Mystic Meadows."
"Got it, Mrs. Frane," Terry nodded right away.
Lillian smiled again. "It's okay, I'm pretty good at switching up how I address people."
Terry stayed quiet.
Jackson suddenly looked at Lillian and said, "You are quite good at changing how you address people."
After calling him Jackson for so many years, she suddenly started calling him Mr. Frane every day and never got it wrong again.
Lillian could hear a bit of resentment in Jackson's tone and smiled. "Yes, thank you for the compliment, Mr. Frane."
Jackson looked at her fake smile, nodded helplessly, and asked again, "Do you need me to call Gray?"
Since Shirley's issue was caused by Gray, it was only natural for Gray to take responsibility.
But as soon as he finished speaking, Lillian and Shirley, who had her eyes closed in Lillian's arms, spoke almost at the same time, "Don't call."
"No need!" Shirley opened her eyes and sat up straight from Lillian's embrace. She looked at Jackson and said again, "Mr. Frane, thanks for your help today, but this is my business, and I want to handle it myself. Please don't interfere too much, thank you."
Lillian also felt that since Gray was about to get married, it was best not to have any more entanglements with Shirley. She reached out and held Shirley's hand, silently offering support.
"Okay." Jackson nodded and didn't push it.
The car slowly stopped at Mystic Meadows.
Lillian didn't wait for Jackson to get out and open the car door; she pulled Shirley out of the car.
She looked at Jackson getting out of the passenger seat and nodded. "Mr. Frane, thank you for your help today."
Jackson stared at her. "Just a verbal thank you? How about inviting me to a meal?"
It was the first time he had actively asked someone for a meal, and his ears were slightly burning.
But he didn't want to miss this opportunity, just in case she agreed.
To his surprise, Lillian seemed to think for a moment and then nodded. "I'll make a reservation and let someone notify you to arrange another time."
Jackson thought he was hearing things. 'Did I really get a meal invitation so easily? Does this count as a date?'
He subconsciously squeezed his knuckles, feeling the real pain, and couldn't help but smile.
Jackson's voice was hoarse. "Okay, I'm available anytime. Do you have my Facebook? I..."
He took out his phone, intending to use this opportunity to get Lillian to re-add him on Facebook after she had blocked him.
But a deep male voice sounded from not far away. "Lillian, why are you standing at the door and not coming in?"
The next second, Lillian, standing in front of Jackson, immediately turned around.
Jackson saw Lillian's face suddenly light up with a radiant smile, and then she quickly walked towards the tall figure emerging from the villa, speaking with surprise and affection, "Ambrose, didn't you say you were on a business trip and not in Miracalia? When did you come back? You didn't even tell me!"
