Chapter 586
Jackson clutched his phone so tight his knuckles turned white.
A shiver ran down his spine, that creepy feeling washing over him again.
"Figure this out!"
He barked, hanging up before Harry could even reply, and quickly dialed Lillian's number.
In those few seconds waiting for the ringtone, his breathing got all ragged.
Wild thoughts raced through his head. He'd thought Bob had spotted the surveillance and bolted out of fear.
But if Bob was still lurking in Miracalia, what was his game?
Jackson's mind flashed back to Lillian's pale, shattered face when Bob showed up that day.
He couldn't bear the thought of Bob creeping around Lillian, waiting for his chance.
Jackson's palm got all sweaty and sticky as he gripped his phone.
But the ringtone just kept going, no answer.
Jackson frowned hard and dialed Eulalia's number.
Meanwhile, Wendy was being carried out, screaming her head off as they loaded her into the car.
Star rushed over, urging, "Jackson, let's hit the hospital together."
She reached out to pat Jackson's shoulder, but he spun around suddenly.
A thunderclap boomed outside, lighting up his stern face.
Jackson's face was pale, eyes bloodshot, like a beast in the night.
Star was so freaked she took two steps back. "Jackson."
But Jackson blew past her like a gust of wind, his back cold, his steps urgent and hurried.
After a few steps, he even started running.
Eulalia's phone also went unanswered, which was definitely not normal.
Jackson's sharp instincts screamed that something was up with Lillian!
"Jackson! Wait up."
Star was still chasing him, following Jackson out of the villa.
Outside, the wind howled, and rain poured down.
A bodyguard saw Jackson coming and tried to open an umbrella for him.
Before the umbrella could open, Jackson had already dashed into the rain, heading straight for the parked Bentley.
The courtyard was a mess, ambulance lights flashing in the dark rain.
Wendy kept screaming on the stretcher, while doctors and nurses tried to calm her down.
Star ran out, grabbed the umbrella from the bodyguard, and chased after Jackson.
"Jackson, what are you doing? Where are you going? You'll get sick out in the rain like that!"
Her voice was chopped up by the wind and rain.
Jackson felt like he was in a dream, everything surreal.
He had one thought now.
He needed to get back to Miracalia ASAP to see Lillian!
He prayed the two bodyguards still watching Lillian would keep her safe.
He thought, 'I'm just too nervous, overthinking.
'Lillian's asleep; she can't hear the phone.
'Even if she did, she's so playful she only answers when she's in the mood.
'She might be holding the phone now, feeling smug, making me worry on purpose.
'And Eulalia, she must've slacked off as soon as Lillian fell asleep. She's so lazy; I need to give her a good scolding.'
Thinking this, Jackson opened the car door, and as if answering his prayers, his phone suddenly rang.
Jackson looked down sharply, raindrops splashing on the lit-up screen.
It was Lillian calling!
In the dimness of his eyes, a light shone through, and Jackson stood in the cold wind and rain, relieved, with a smile.
He eagerly answered and put the phone to his ear. "Lillian."
But before he could fully speak, his smile froze, torn apart by a cold, sinister voice.
Because it wasn't Lillian on the other end.
It was Bob's vicious, venomous voice.
Lillian was really in trouble!
Time rewound to half an hour earlier.
