Chapter 1029 The Things Must Be Retrieved

"Briar, let's get outta here," Lola said, clearly annoyed.

Even though Briar knew they were being unreasonable, the place was crowded and noisy. To avoid causing a scene and giving Lola a bad reputation, she pushed the wheelchair and left without saying much.

As they passed a high-end handbag store, a stylish middle-aged woman walked out, carrying two shopping bags.

"Mrs. Thompson?" Lola greeted her instinctively.

For the past few years, the Thompson family's business had been thriving thanks to the Medici family's support. Eris often bought expensive gifts to show her gratitude.

Every Christmas, Eris would send Lola two designer purses, each costing at least $200,000, hoping Lola would speak well of the Thompson family in front of Beckett and Kimberly.

Eris looked over at the sound of her name. Although the girl in the wheelchair was wearing a hat and sunglasses, her figure and voice were unmistakably Lola's.

Without even pausing, Eris averted her gaze and continued walking, as if nothing had happened.

"Who was that? She knew you were greeting her and still acted so rudely. Where's she rushing off to?" Briar asked, puzzled.

Lola let out a cold laugh. Now that Abella was the Medici family's biological daughter, Eris was busy sucking up to Abella and had no time for her.

"Briar, let's go home," Lola said, losing interest in shopping.

"Ms. Flores, since we're already here, why not buy something? It's also Mr. Hall's treat," Briar suggested.

Lola was about to continue shopping when they passed a watch store and heard a loud voice inside.

"Bring out the best and most expensive women's watches you have. I need to buy a gift."

That voice was unmistakable.

Lola looked over and saw her relative, Juliet Harris.

Juliet's voice was always loud and confident, filled with authority and power. She was clearly someone who called the shots.

"I'm telling you, the person I'm buying for has seen all kinds of treasures. You need to bring out your store's finest! Price is not an issue; rarity and value are what matter!" Juliet said.

Perhaps because of this big spender, the store clerk hurried over to close the door. Seeing Briar pushing the wheelchair, they mistakenly thought they were coming in and apologized softly, "Sorry, we're closing."

The door quickly shut in front of them.

"What's with these stores today? Either they ignore people or they're busy catering to VIPs," Briar grumbled.

Lola seemed used to it and said calmly, "Do you know why that person inside wants the best and most expensive women's watch?"

Briar shook her head.

"Just like Mrs. Thompson earlier, the reason she left in such a hurry is because of yesterday's livestream. Everyone saw that the Medici family's real daughter is back, so now they're all trying to please Abella."

Briar's eyes widened in realization.

"So, you know the person buying the watch inside?"

"Yes."

Briar finally understood.

"There must be a lot of familiar faces shopping here today," Lola guessed. This was, after all, Empire Vista City's largest shopping center. She suddenly lost her shopping enthusiasm. "Let's go home."

She didn't want to run into any more unpleasant people.

Briar nodded, "I'll take you down in the elevator."

As they waited for the elevator, a wealthy woman walked out of a nearby perfume store and also headed for the elevator.

She saw Lola in the wheelchair, studied her for a moment, and hesitantly called out, "Lola?"

"Mrs. Gray." Lola was surprised that someone close to the Medici family would greet her.

This was the first person today to actively acknowledge her!

Katya Gray's family business had risen to a new level since partnering with the Medici family, so she was very grateful. She often visited the Medici family during holidays and bought gifts for Lola.

Lola had always liked Katya because she constantly praised her, making her feel delighted.

"Is it really you?" Katya looked at Lola's current state and remembered yesterday's reunion party. Kimberly had called her an ingrate, and Katya's expression turned cold.

"Since you're not the Medici family's biological daughter, I'd appreciate it if you returned the gifts I gave you over the years."

Hearing that, both Lola and Briar were stunned.

"I gave those gifts to the Medici family's daughter. Since you're not, please return them." Katya's words made Lola feel extremely embarrassed. She never expected the once-affectionate Katya to make such a rude request in public.

Lola struggled to maintain her composure. "I remember, Mrs. Gray, your gifts weren't that valuable."

"They were bought with my hard-earned money. Twelve bottles of perfume, forty-two lipsticks, four pairs of designer shoes, and two designer purses add up to four or five hundred thousand dollars."

"How can you..."

Briar was furious, but before she could finish, Lola handed her a card. "Briar, go to the nearby bank and withdraw five hundred thousand dollars in cash."

"Ms. Flores?"

"Go ahead."

Briar was angry but more concerned. "Wait here for me. I'll be back soon."

She shot Katya a resentful look, parked the wheelchair by the side, and took the elevator downstairs.

In the elevator hall, Katya looked down at Lola in the wheelchair, "It seems someone is still supporting you after the Medici family kicked you out. You can easily come up with five hundred thousand dollars. Your benefactor must be quite influential."

Lola sat in the wheelchair, her expression cold. "Ms. Gray, today you've shown me what true opportunism looks like."

"This isn't opportunism, Lola. The Medici family has been good to me. I'm just standing up for them. I don't need the money; I'd rather donate it than give it to an ingrate like you!"

"Do you think the Medici family will thank you for this? Will they give your family more opportunities?"

"You're mistaken. I won't use this to ask the Medici family for any favors. They've already helped me elevate my status. What I need to do is show gratitude. The Medici family hired so many renowned teachers for you, taught you so much, but still couldn't make you a better person. It shows that some people are inherently ungrateful!"

Lola glared at Katya, furious.

If she weren't in a wheelchair, she would have slapped Katya hard!

Katya wasn't intimidated by Lola's glare. Instead, she smiled and said slowly, "Your anger is useless. I'm just stating the facts."
