Chapter 595 Brought to Tears by Anger
Lola stood outside the manor, tears streaming down her face with a bitter smile.
It was Christmas Eve. She'd flown twelve hours just to see her family.
She knew her parents had secretly taken Abella to see her grandmother and uncle.
She knew she didn't belong here.
She knew no one wanted her around.
But she came anyway, clinging to eighteen years of family ties.
She wanted to be close to her parents, uncle, and grandmother.
But as soon as she reached the villa, she heard joyful singing and laughter from the garden.
From a distance, she saw Santas and elves dancing around Abella.
She wanted to let go of her grudges and join in, pretending she wasn't hurt.
But the fireworks in the night sky, with every word, pierced her heart.
"Welcome home."
"Merry Christmas Eve."
"Merry Christmas."
"Abella, be happy."
"Stay healthy and safe."
All the love and blessings were for Abella!
Not a single word for her!!
Everyone was caught up in the holiday cheer, forgetting about her.
Everyone surrounded Abella, trying to make her happy.
No one cared about the adopted daughter!
The fireworks also displayed edelweiss patterns.
Everyone knew Abella loved edelweiss. Her brothers had even planted many at Long Island Manor.
In the night sky, the edelweiss turned into a sea of flowers, with a long-haired girl in the middle.
The final scene showed five brothers and a sister. One held an umbrella for her, another tied her shoelaces, one made her laugh, one handed her a bouquet, and another held a sword, protecting her.
This scene deeply hurt Lola. 'Do my brothers only see one sister? What about me? Am I not worthy of being in their lives, not even in the fireworks?'
Lola's tears fell again. The more she smiled, the more bitter she felt.
Her parents and brothers always said they'd treat her like family.
But now, they'd secretly prepared a grand surprise for Abella, leaving her alone.
She thought, 'How could they! How could they be so biased? Are eighteen years of affection all fake? Is blood relation all that matters?'
It must have been James' idea; there wasn't a single servant in the garden. The staff must have gone inside to join the fun.
This was James' territory, and no one dared to intrude on such a holiday.
Lola pushed open the gate and walked alone in the garden.
She remembered coming here during a winter break in elementary school.
It was snowing then, just like now. The pure white snowflakes fell gently, and the garden seemed endless. She had run around for a long time and even threw snowballs at James.
James used to play with her, smiling gently and dotingly.
Those moments were so beautiful. The servants would smile and say James spoiled her the most, and she was the only one who dared to throw snowballs at him.
Another time, in the fall, she visited James with her parents and picked many precious flowers and plants in the garden.
She didn't know their value then, just that they were beautiful. Kimberly scolded her, but James said, "Don't worry about the flowers. If Lola likes them, the whole garden, the whole villa, can be hers."
The past was so beautiful that thinking about it now felt like a knife twisting in her heart.
Just then, a few servants walked by in the garden.
"Tonight's dinner was amazing. Ms. Medici is so lucky to have so many family members doting on her."
"Even the gift wrapping paper had Swarovski crystals, probably tens of thousands of them."
"Mr. Medici and Mrs. Medici are so generous, giving private islands and the world's largest castle-themed amusement park. Must be worth over two billion dollars, right?"
"Ms. Medici's brothers aren't bad to her either, coming here to surprise her with such expensive gifts."
"Private yachts, private planes, Mr. Blake Medici even gave away his favorite luxury cars, three of them."
"Mr. Harris's large estate is also very valuable. I heard it's ranked among the world's luxury homes, worth over a billion dollars."
Lola's smile grew more envious and sad.
Tears streamed down her face, her heart feeling like it was pierced by thousands of arrows. The more she smiled, the more she wanted to cry, the more she felt like breaking down.
When her parents gave Abella such expensive gifts, did they ever think about their other daughter, whom they had raised for eighteen years?
When James tried to please Abella with gifts, did he ever think about his other niece?
And her brothers, who were usually as busy as spinning tops, could they all find time today just to surprise Abella?
Take Steven, for example. He was such a cold work machine that he would never make exceptions for anyone. Even if he didn't work on Christmas Eve or Christmas, his daily routine was so strict that it was impossible for him to be here, messing around with his other brothers.
"Not to mention the value of the gifts, just the fact that Ms. Medici's brothers could take the time to fly here to surprise her, sing and dance for her, and prepare fireworks, it's really touching!"
"Isn't it? Having brothers like that is great. My brother only tricks me out of my allowance and dumps his troubles on me because he knows our parents favor me and won't scold me."
"This is Ms. Medici's first time here at her uncle's, her first Christmas Eve and Christmas here. It has to be grand, right?"
"Honestly, Mr. Harris never put in so much effort for any other holiday. Now that his niece is here, he hired a planning company, prepared gifts, decorated the house so beautifully, and even the desserts were special. Did you see that reindeer tart? Its nose was adorned with a ruby, so pretty."
Lola's tears streamed down again, her smile growing more bitter and sad.
