Chapter 231 Turning Back for Progress
"I will respect Abella's wishes," Phillipe said.
"What kind of respect? Just because Little Abella agreed, you think you can further develop your relationship? Let me warn you, don't even think about it!" Blake waved his fist as a warning. "If you dare to mistreat Little Abella, I swear on my life, I will seek justice for her!"
"Do you still not understand me?" Phillipe smirked. "Although I am not a perfect person, I am not a beast either. Rest assured, I will wait until the day Abella becomes my wife."
"That day will never come!" Blake declared firmly.
"We shall see," Phillipe replied.
After Phillipe got into the car, Blake hurriedly leaned against the window and spoke to Abella. "Abella, if this guy bullies you, call me. I'll personally deal with him! And please come home early! No matter what happens outside or any difficult situations you encounter, just let me know, and I'll help you solve them."
"Don't worry, older brother."
Blake couldn't help but feel uneasy seeing the villain's smug face. It was as if he were watching his little sister getting married off, helpless as he watched the car disappear into the distance, feeling lost and disheartened.
"Brother, what are you doing here?" Just then, a voice interrupted his thoughts.
"Lola..." Blake glanced at Lola and couldn't help but turn his head to look in the direction Abella had left. The car was long gone, and he refocused his gaze on Lola. "Why are you up so early today?"
"You're up early too, Brother. It's rare to have a day off. Why don't you sleep a little longer?" Lola asked.
"I can't sleep."
He had planned to take Abella out for shopping and make her happy, trying to make up for the lost time...
But it was all ruined by Phillipe!
The thought of his little sister having a partner so soon and spending less and less time at home made Blake feel terrible.
"Brother, since you have a day off, how about going out together? We haven't been out together for so long!" When Lola heard Blake mention taking Abella out for shopping, she thought that if she could go out with her brother and find a reporter to take a picture of them holding hands...
The publicity would definitely trend!
Then everyone would know that she was her brother's most cherished sister...
She could also buy a lot of things and have her brother become her personal ATM!
But Blake, feeling down, replied listlessly, "Maybe next time!"
He wanted to stay at home and wait for Abella. What if she needed him?
Lola's smile faltered, but she forced herself to ask, "Brother, do you have other plans?"
"Yeah." Blake didn't think much about it and simply patted her shoulder. "Behave yourself, have fun on your own today."
Lola's face twisted in frustration!
Meanwhile, Phillipe drove Abella to a romantic restaurant with a flower theme and held her hand as they entered a private room.
Isla, sitting in the lobby, couldn't believe her eyes and quickly rubbed them, thinking she must have made a mistake.
The next moment, Abella and the man were nowhere to be seen.
"You asked me to come out and said there was something you wanted to talk about face to face? I'm here now, so what is it?" Remy, sitting opposite Isla, had already put away his previous gentleness and seemed somewhat unfamiliar and cold.
After not seeing each other for a long time, Isla realized that her beloved had completely changed. There was no trace of sadness on his face. Instead, she confidently took out a divorce agreement and placed it in front of Remy.
"Remy, don't worry. I'm not here to pester you... This is a divorce agreement, and I've already signed it." Upon hearing this, a hint of surprise appeared on Remy's face. He suppressed the turmoil in his heart, picked it up, and read it. Every word stated that Isla was at fault, willingly seeking the divorce, and between the lines, it defended the reputation of the Johnson family and his own character.
This unexpectedly made him feel guilty and unsettled!
"I'm sorry, Remy. I made a mistake by plagiarizing my sister's composition, causing you and your family to be embarrassed. Although everyone makes mistakes, I made it hard for you to hold your head up in front of others and made it difficult for you in front of Uncle and Aunt." As Isla spoke, she took out an exquisite bag and placed it in front of Remy.
"This is a gift I secretly prepared. I originally planned to present it publicly at the engagement banquet, but it turned out to be unnecessary." Isla smiled self-deprecatingly. "Consider it a memento for you."
Remy opened the bag and found many things inside, including a diary. It chronicled their first meeting to the events of today, and through the words, he could feel how much she loved him.
Just after reading two pages, a tidal wave of memories surged over him, and Remy was deeply moved. His nose tingled, and the hand holding the diary trembled.
"There's also a birthday gift I prepared for you in advance inside the bag. It's a scarf and gloves that I knitted for you personally, even though I'm clumsy at it. It took me more than forty days to finish, and my hands..."
As Isla spoke, she pretended to withdraw her hand.
Only then did Remy notice that seven or eight of Isla's ten fingers were bandaged. He asked with concern, "Did you get injured while knitting?"
Isla retracted her hand and dismissively said, "That's not important. What's important is that my knitting is a bit ugly and not as good as the branded ones you can buy at the department store. If you think it's not nice, just throw it away!"
"No, it's very beautiful..." Isla had completely touched Remy's heart. His previous determination was now wavering.
"I was too naive before. I thought that loving you wholeheartedly would be enough to stay together forever. But I neglected the worsening situation the Wilson family is facing and my own status. I'm no longer worthy to stand by your side..."
She subtly made Remy feel like a heartless man who only cared about wealth and power...
"Remy, I wish you find a lady who matches your social standing. She won't be as foolish as me, thinking that loving you with all her heart is enough. She will bring tremendous help to your career."
Unbeknownst to her, Isla subtly hinted to Remy that it would be impossible for him to find someone who could love him as purely as she did!
"Remy, thank you for loving me before. Every day with you was worthwhile and joyful. Goodbye, Remy." Isla stood up, intending to leave.
In the next moment, Remy immediately grabbed her hand, feeling conflicted within. "Isla..."
"Remy, we have already called off the engagement. If you hold onto me like this, what if your future partner happens to see? She would feel uncomfortable. And surely, someone suitable for you in terms of background would be more dominant in character. You should let go quickly..." Isla explained.
Remy knew that if he were to find a suitable lady in the future, she would never be as gentle and understanding as Isla! Never as selfless, and always so easy to talk to!
