Chapter 975 Gifting in a Roundabout Way
Saskia had barely stepped out of the main building when Dennis caught up with her. "Wait!"
Why was he following her?
Saskia felt even more awkward than before.
"About the project... it was my subordinates overstepping their bounds. I've handled it, and no one will obstruct your projects again."
Saskia hadn't expected him to chase after her just to explain this. She nodded. "Thank you."
"Don't mention it." Seeing her about to leave, Dennis couldn't help but try to detain her. "Won't you stay a bit longer?"
"Abella's traveling abroad... I don't want to delay her schedule."
She wanted Abella to leave early and return early, to finish her business quickly and get home to rest.
Seeing Dennis still standing in front of her with no intention of leaving, Saskia asked quietly, "Is there something else?"
Only then did Dennis remember something. He handed her the ointment in his hand. "Abella asked me to give you this. You need to be careful with that cut on your forehead these next few days—keep it dry. If it still hurts, you can tell me."
Saskia was puzzled. Why would she tell him?
"I could pass it along to Abella... see if she has any remedies for the pain." Dennis worried his ulterior motives might be transparent, so he covered hastily. "Last night Abella mentioned your wound was from flying glass shards—pretty deep. You'll need to apply this ointment consistently for two weeks to prevent scarring."
Abella hadn't mentioned any ointment last night, but today she'd asked him to bring the tube from the coffee table—this must be it.
"Alright." Saskia accepted the ointment, and they fell into another awkward silence.
Just then, Dennis noticed the flowers in the nearby soil and suddenly remembered something. "Oh, right!"
He picked up two potted plants. "These are your flowers—don't forget them."
Saskia was touched by Abella's thoughtfulness; she'd even refilled the soil.
As Saskia reached for them, Dennis held them back. "Abella asked me to carry them to your car," he said.
What?
Though surprised, Saskia accepted Abella's gesture and walked alongside Dennis toward the main gate.
"I haven't spent much time living with Abella, so I don't know her preferences—what she likes to eat or drink. For this trip abroad, I'm worried I won't understand her tastes well enough to take proper care of her. Could you tell me?" Dennis initiated conversation.
When Saskia realized it was about Abella, some of her tension eased and she began to open up.
"What about you? What do you like?"
Saskia paused, her cheeks flushing slightly. So after all that roundabout questioning, he wanted to know what she enjoyed eating?
"No ulterior motive—just curious," Dennis explained, once again covering his tracks.
"I love strawberries and mangoes... can't stand pineapple. But if Abella's around, I'll eat anything."
Dennis gazed into her eyes. "You really are good to her."
"She's the one who's good to me. She'd risk her life to protect me. Having a friend like that in this lifetime—I'm content."
And with Clare and the others, she must have done something right in her past life to have such loyal friends now.
"Let me call a car."
Saskia pulled out her phone to summon a ride, but the next second, Dennis pressed a set of car keys into her hand.
Though the keys looked identical to the ones from last night, these appeared much newer. Her old set had been worn from use, with slight paint chips. These looked brand new.
Glancing at the sports car parked outside the gate—the color and model were identical to last night's.
"Is it... fixed already?" Saskia was surprised. So quickly?
"Your car was shot full of holes—most of the interior needs replacing. The repair shop said it would take a month." Dennis offered the keys again. "This one's new. I had them transfer your old license plate and register it with the authorities—it's road-legal."
Saskia couldn't believe Dennis had bought her an identical replacement car and even handled the license transfer.
"The incident stemmed from the Medici family—those people wanted to take you hostage... so consider this car our family's gesture of apology." Dennis maintained his offering posture. "Drive it home, and your parents won't suspect anything. Otherwise, if your car suddenly disappeared and they discovered it was riddled with bullets, imagine how worried they'd be when they started asking questions."
"But..."
Though she understood his roundabout way of giving her a gift and recognized his feelings, this present was far too expensive to accept.
"Last night, you nearly lost your life because of Medici family business. If you don't accept this, our entire family will feel guilty. Consider it compensation." Seeing her continued hesitation, Dennis pushed the keys closer. "If you won't take them, I'll have to drive you home myself."
Finally, Saskia thanked him for his kindness and accepted the keys, driving away in the new car.
On the drive home, Saskia discovered the new car's system, interior, and seats were all upgraded—essentially a premium version of her previous vehicle!
How had Dennis managed to acquire such a rare, high-end model in such a short time?
Watching Saskia's departure, Dennis finally allowed himself to smile.
Perfect—Saskia had finally accepted his gift!
"Nice car."
Winston's sudden comment made Dennis whip around to find Steven, Ethan, and Winston standing behind him. He had no idea how long they'd been watching.
Ethan teased, "Dennis is surprisingly generous... giving away a gift worth over a hundred million dollars."
Steven chimed in, "All these years as his older brother, and I've never received anything decent from him."
Winston joked, "That car of Saskia's happens to be one I've had my eye on lately. Wonder if she'd give me a ride."
"Back off." Hearing Winston's comment, Dennis warned, "Get in Saskia's car, and I'll break your legs."
"My little brother wants to break my legs?" Winston flashed a roguish grin. "Come on, try it."
Just then, seeing Abella approaching, he immediately played the victim. "Abella! Dennis threatened to break my legs!"
Dennis hadn't expected such theatrics from a grown man and immediately protested, "I did no such thing—don't listen to him."
Abella's gaze shifted to Steven and Ethan nearby, who nodded solemnly as if confirming the accusation.
"You... you guys..." Dennis couldn't believe they were ganging up on him. Ethan was one thing, but Steven too!
"I really didn't..." Dennis feared Abella's misunderstanding. "Are you ready? I'll take you abroad."
"Don't leave, Abella—I'm afraid he really will break my legs..." Winston continued his performance.
Dennis genuinely wanted to hit someone now.
