Chapter 499 Missed Call
During the countdown, she immediately took out her phone and called Blake.
Steven's schedule was so strict that it was almost inhumane. Ethan was often on special missions and couldn't answer the phone, and her parents were already asleep at this hour. The only person she could rely on now was Blake, who always stayed up late.
Fortunately, Blake picked up right away, his voice filled with surprise and delight. "Abella? What's the occasion that you actually remembered to call..."
"When is Winston's birthday?"
"What?" Blake was stunned, thinking he had misheard.
"Hurry up and tell me."
Only four seconds left.
"It's November 11, but Abella, why are you suddenly asking..."
Abella hung up immediately, entered 1111, and the answer was correct.
The data packet began to download automatically. Abella breathed a sigh of relief and looked over at Phillipe.
His profile was flawless, his slender fingers tapping away at the keyboard. His dark, bright eyes were particularly striking.
Soon, the defense program on the computer was rewritten, and the data packet was downloaded smoothly.
Abella noticed the name of the data packet he was downloading: Experimental Data.
So, what was she downloading?
It didn't even have a name, just a W as a placeholder.
W? Winston?
Could it be memories of Winston and Nicole?
Soon, the data packet finished downloading, and a line of text popped up on the screen: All data will be destroyed in 10 seconds. Countdown: 10, 9, 8, 7...
Abella watched it count down second by second until the screen displayed: Destruction Complete.
She stood up and said, "Let's go."
Just as they stepped out of the cold, private residence, and before the stone door could close, countless hidden weapons came flying at them.
"Watch out." Phillipe, quick on his feet, managed to deflect many of the hidden weapons for Abella.
In the narrow stone passage, a group of individuals approached the two of them.
At the forefront of the group was an elderly man whose very presence exuded a sharp, chilling aura.
Behind him were at least thirty subordinates, clearly targeting Abella and Phillipe.
The elderly man spoke, his tone menacing. "Who sent you? How did you get in here?"
The hidden weapons continued, and Abella kicked each one back, only for the elderly man to deflect them effortlessly.
This old man was quite skilled.
She suddenly remembered Terry from Florida; he must be in cahoots with these people.
When the hidden weapons finally ceased, the old man signaled with a wave of his hand, and the thirty-odd people behind him charged at Phillipe and Abella, some even breaking into the private quarters.
In less than a minute, someone ran up to the old man and reported, "Mr. Wren, there's a lab inside, and all the computers in the lab are displaying the message: Destruction Complete."
Fred Wren's eyes flashed with a terrifying light as he coldly stared at the fighting duo, his tone filled with murderous intent. "What did you destroy?"
Who sent them to do this?
Was it Nicole?
This place was off-limits to everyone except Nicole; not even the highest-ranking leaders could enter.
During the fight, the silver key around Abella's neck fell to the ground. Everyone who saw the key was visibly shocked, their faces turning pale.
This was Nicole's personal "keycard," a symbol of her identity. How did it end up in this girl's possession?
Abella deftly kicked the key back up, pocketing it before continuing to deal with the surrounding threats.
Seeing her agile movements and impressive skills, could she be Nicole?
Fred moved swiftly, suddenly appearing in front of Abella.
Although the girl's techniques and clear eyes didn't resemble Nicole, he couldn't afford to take any chances.
Just as he was about to test her skills, Phillipe intercepted him. In just seven or eight moves, Fred was forced to retreat a few steps.
"Who are you people?" Fred was clearly enraged. "Did Nicole send you?"
Abella knocked down one of the henchmen, stepping on his stomach before picking up a hidden weapon from the ground. She accurately stabbed the poisoned end into another henchman's abdomen, her eyes filled with mockery.
"What makes you think you deserve an answer from us?" she said.
That arrogant and cool tone did resemble Nicole a bit.
Hearing her young voice, Fred guessed she might be Nicole's friend, who was around the same age.
He had clearly warned Nicole not to make friends in secret. The feeling of being betrayed again and again by someone so capable made him furious.
Fred laughed angrily. "Today, you won't escape. Tell me where she's hiding, and maybe I'll let you die with your bodies intact."
"You should think about where you want to be buried." Abella swiftly attacked.
Fred parried a few moves, and the two were evenly matched, locked in a fierce battle.
"You go first; I'll handle this." Phillipe took over, forcing Fred back several steps.
More and more people were flooding in, blocking the only exit completely.
There was no way out now.
"They broke in on their own. Even if they die, they deserve it!"
"Hand over Nicole, or die a gruesome death!"
"Mr. Wren, they destroyed all the data in the lab. Do you think they might have taken the data with them?"
If they did, it would be a disaster for their organization.
"Kill them." Fred decided, no longer willing to waste time.
Meanwhile, Abella's phone vibrated in her backpack. She heard the buzzing but, with the imminent danger, she and Phillipe could only fight their way out.
The phone vibrated again and again in the backpack. The caller stood in front of the castle, drenched in rain.
No one answered on the other end.
Looking at the large crowd of people in front of the castle, Raymond put away his phone and pleaded, "I really have an urgent matter. Please, let me speak to her."
"Ms. Medici is already asleep. Whatever it is, come back tomorrow." Twenty or so armed men blocked the entrance, not letting him take another step forward.
"I must see her today."
"Who do you think our boss is? Someone you can just see whenever you want?"
"Can you check the time? It's 2 AM. You're making things difficult for us."
"Whatever it is, it can wait."
The commotion caught Ernest's attention.
With Sam and Tony not around, Ernest was in charge.
Seeing Ernest approach, the twenty or so men called out in unison, "Ernest."
"What's going on?"
"This guy insists on seeing Ms. Medici, and he won't listen to reason."
Ernest looked up and saw that it was Raymond. He was soaked from head to toe, his eyes filled with urgency and anxiety.
