Chapter 681 Injuring Someone

In the hospital, Caleb checked out Camille's email, his eyes going all dark and stormy.

So, Abella helped Camille's dad get rid of a tumor and kept his liver working fine, and Camille paid her back by spilling the beans on some insider info.

Turns out, Camille was always giving him a hard time at work 'cause she was taking orders from another board member—Caleb's own uncle, Derek Harris.

When Caleb took over the family biz, there were already a bunch of relatives in key spots, and a lot of them, including his uncle, wanted him to step down.

Caleb knew Derek wasn't thrilled about him running the show, but he didn't think his uncle would go this far behind his back.

In the email, Camille laid out how she was just following Derek's orders and even threw in some proof.

Right now, Camille was by her dad's bedside, all jittery.

Since she sent that email to Caleb last night, she hadn't heard a peep from him, even by 9:30 this morning.

Knowing Caleb, he'd probably wait for the perfect moment to strike back, but she was scared she might get caught in the crossfire.

And knowing Derek, if he found out Camille ratted him out, he'd make her life a living nightmare.

Camille was sick of being a puppet. She could handle dying, but after her dad's successful surgery, she didn't want to drag him down with her.

Just then, her phone buzzed, making her jump. It was Caleb calling.

"Mr. Harris?" Camille answered, her heart pounding.

"I read your email. Thanks for filling me in." Caleb's voice was steady. "I know Derek well. I'll take care of this without dragging you into it. Just act like nothing happened. Do whatever he tells you."

"But Mr. Harris," Camille worried Derek's next orders would be even crazier, making things tougher for Caleb.

"I'll handle it."

After the call, Camille felt way more relaxed. Caleb knew about Derek's scheming and didn't blame her; he even offered to help.

With Caleb's promise, she felt safe. She looked at her dad, her eyes full of relief and happiness.

Just then, her phone pinged with a bank notification: 125,000 euros had been withdrawn, about 200,000 dollars.

'Could it be the surgery fee taken by Abbott, the so-called Medical Authority? Such a tough surgery, and she only charged this much? Maybe Abbott gave me a friendly price 'cause of my connection with Caleb.' Thinking this, she felt a wave of gratitude.

Abella sent the money to her team for more research and then called Caleb. "Uncle Caleb, I'm heading to the hospital now. You should go home and get some rest."

Caleb had been by the bedside all night; it was time for someone else to take over.

"Abella, since you're in Verdania, take some time to check out the place. I've got folks handling things here," Caleb said, his voice all soft. "Anywhere you wanna go? I'll have someone take you."

"I don't really have a spot in mind."

Plus, Phillipe was gonna show her around. He'd just texted her saying his plane had landed at the Bourbon Group's hotel helipad in Verdania and he'd come find her after dealing with some stuff.

Abella had just told him to chill and come in the evening, or she wouldn't see him.

"Then go home and rest. Find some places you wanna visit, and I'll set it up for you when you're ready." With the big bad still out there, Caleb couldn't just leave and play tour guide.

"Uncle Caleb, don't sweat it. I'm a big girl now; I can handle my own plans." Abella ended the call after a few more words with Caleb.

She planned to hit the hospital to check on her grandpa. But after a few steps, she heard a loud crash behind her.

Turning around, she saw a massive billboard had fallen, hitting a passerby.

People around freaked out and started screaming.

The injured girl passed out right away.

Abella rushed over to lift the billboard, and a few shocked bystanders jumped in to help.

Abella glanced at where the billboard had been hanging. No way someone pushed it; it had to be an accident.

People around were saying the fall might be 'cause of the recent huge typhoon. Others mentioned another store's billboard had fallen at a nearby intersection this morning, luckily not hitting anyone.

With everyone's help, they moved the huge billboard aside. The injured girl was bleeding a lot, and Abella jumped into action with first aid. Some good Samaritans called an ambulance, which showed up just as Abella finished her first aid, taking the girl away.

A few bystanders, still shaken, asked Abella if she was a doctor and if the girl would be okay, given all the blood she lost.

Abella looked towards the departing ambulance and told them the girl's leg might not make it.

Given the size of the billboard and the fact it hit her lower body, amputation was likely.

People expressed their sorrow, saying the girl was so young, just starting her life, and now she might lose her legs.

Abella looked at the billboard again. It seemed old. If it had been hanging too long without a check and then got hit by the typhoon, it could definitely fall.

But the billboard fell just a few steps away from her.

If she hadn't hurried up, it might've hit her.

But if this was on purpose, how could the perp know she'd walk this path and pass by this store?
