Chapter 611 Going Back Home

Lola started crying again, her tears falling like broken beads.

"I didn't mean to," she said. "Seeing Grandma hurt makes me feel so guilty. I wish I could take all her pain."

Everyone watched her, hair messy and clothes wet.

"Why did the wheelchair slip?" Abella asked.

Lola explained, "The camellia tree in the garden was blooming. I wanted to take Grandma to see the flowers and pick some for her room. The branches were too high, so I jumped a few times. When I landed, I accidentally bumped into the wheelchair."

Knowing it was her fault, Lola cried louder and hugged Kimberly. "Mom, I didn't mean it. Grandma has loved me for eighteen years; I could never hurt her. I just wanted to pick flowers for her. She loves flowers."

Kimberly patted her back. "What's done is done. Crying won't help. Be more careful next time. Your grandma hasn't recovered yet, and now this fall will make her suffer more."

"I understand, Mom. I won't act on my own anymore. I'll get your approval before doing anything. I won't let Grandma get hurt again." Lola cried even harder.

A nearby servant stepped forward. "I saw the wheelchair slipping. Ms. Lola Medici was the first to try to save Mrs. Harris, but the wheelchair was too heavy and moving too fast. Ms. Lola Medici was dragged forward and fell even farther than Mrs. Harris."

"Let Lola go change her clothes first," James said, instructing a caregiver, "Abella is here with Mrs. Harris. Go check on Lola and see if she's hurt. Apply some medicine if needed."

"Yes, Mr. Harris." The caregiver approached Lola.

Lola was still crying. "Uncle James, I'm sorry. I really didn't mean it."

Seeing Lola still in her wet clothes, Beckett said, "Take Lola to change her clothes first."

She had been sitting there for a long time. They didn't want her to catch a cold, and anyone who didn't know might think they were punishing her.

"Go ahead," James said without reproach. If it had been careless servants, he would have fired them long ago.

Before leaving, Lola saw Abella sitting by the bed, taking care of Vanessa.

She heard Abella gently ask, "Does this feel better?"

Vanessa, lying on the bed, responded, "Yes, much better."

Their conversation made Lola's tears well up again. 'Why do I try so hard to save Grandma, only for Abella to get all the credit? I was almost broken to pieces from the fall. Why is it so hard?'

"Do you believe I really didn't mean it?" Lola asked the caregiver beside her.

The caregiver kindly said, "Ms. Lola Medici, it was definitely an accident. Mrs. Harris has loved you for eighteen years. Growing up in such a warm family, you couldn't possibly harm anyone intentionally."

Lola covered her face and cried.

"Ms. Lola Medici, don't blame yourself. Mr. Harris, Mr. Beckett Medici, and Mrs. Medici didn't blame you. Mr. Blake Medici didn't say a word of blame either. Ms. Abella Medici was just asking what happened to find out what went wrong and how to fix it. Don't be sad."

Lola cried even harder after being comforted.

After a while, the caregiver returned to attend to Vanessa. James asked calmly, "Are Lola's injuries serious?"

"Some are scraped and bleeding, some are swollen and bruised. She has quite a few injuries, more than Mrs. Harris. She kept crying while I was applying the medicine because she felt guilty."

Everyone around felt bad.

Because of Vanessa's accident, Abella stayed another day until Winston called, saying Nicole really couldn't hold on any longer and was coughing up blood.

Only then did Abella say goodbye to Vanessa.

"Why don't you stay a few more days?" Vanessa was reluctant to let her go. Abella had taken such good care of her these past two days that Vanessa felt she would miss her when she left.

"Abella has to go back to school and has work to do," James said gently. "When you feel better, I'll take you back to visit her."

Abella also said gently, "I'll come to see you whenever I can."

"You must come," Vanessa said, holding Abella's hand. "When I can get out of bed, I'll come to see you."

"Okay, it's a deal."

"Take this with you and open it when you get home." Vanessa placed a small wooden box in Abella's hand. "This is my gift to you. You must accept it."
