Chapter 1081 The Fight Started
At that moment, Henry burst into the ward, his smile vanishing as he rushed forward and shoved Cecil aside. "Lola, are you okay? Lola?"
Lola felt the grip around her neck loosen. Henry's voice sounded distant. Her vision was pitch black, and she couldn't see anything. Her body felt weak and limp.
But she could feel Henry shaking her. Instinctively, she started coughing. Her vision slowly came back into focus, and she saw Henry's anxious expression. She coughed violently and gasped for air, as if she had been pulled back from the brink of death.
"Water," Lola's voice was hoarse and weak, "I need water."
Henry hurriedly poured her a glass of water.
Lola didn't even have the strength to hold the cup, so Henry helped her drink. After a while, she seemed to recover a bit and clung to Henry, crying.
Henry glared at Cecil with hatred, comforting Lola tenderly.
"Henry!" Cecil was furious, wanting to snap him out of it. "She's the one who caused Melanie's car accident, and you're still protecting her?"
Henry's patience had reached its limit. He stood up and walked towards Cecil, throwing a punch.
"Are you serious?" Cecil was enraged. He couldn't believe his old friend was willing to fight him over a bad woman. If he hadn't dodged quickly, that punch could have knocked the wind out of him.
"You almost choked her to death!" Henry roared, trembling with anger.
"Fine, you want to defend her? Come on, hit me right here!" Cecil taunted, then swung a punch at Henry's face.
"Today, I'm going to knock some sense into you." Cecil went berserk, and the two started brawling.
Henry couldn't believe Cecil dared to act so arrogantly after what he'd done. Every punch he threw was full of rage.
Seeing this, Lola quickly pressed the call button.
Servants and bodyguards from the neighboring ward, where Nolan and Whitney were, heard the commotion and rushed over. They saw Henry and Cecil fighting and hurriedly separated them.
"Henry," Cecil was livid, glaring at the irrational Henry. "She caused your whole family to end up in the hospital, and you're still protecting her? I can't believe I ever considered you a friend."
"You call yourself my friend? Lola is the woman I love, and you've insulted her repeatedly. This time, you almost choked her to death! Have you ever cared about my feelings?"
"This is a hospital. Please don't make a scene and disturb the patients," A nearby doctor tried to mediate.
"I'll throw the evidence in your face and make you regret this," Cecil fumed. "Remember what you did today!"
He stormed out, leaving Henry equally furious.
The servants and bodyguards, not wanting to interfere further, returned to their posts.
A nurse asked Henry if he needed his wounds treated, but he didn't respond, his expression dark.
Lola weakly spoke up, "Leave the medicine here. I'll take care of his wounds."
The nurse had long disliked Lola. Ever since she learned that the Hall family ended up in the hospital because of her, Lola's presence felt like a deliberate show of dominance.
The nurse was visibly annoyed. She rolled her eyes, dropped the medicine, and walked away without a word.
Lola was infuriated. She couldn't believe a lowly nurse, earning a fixed salary, dared to roll her eyes at her.
If Henry weren't so angry and hadn't noticed, she would have found a way to get that nurse fired!
"Henry, let me treat your wounds." Lola pressed the button on her wheelchair to move closer and tugged at his sleeve.
This gesture softened Henry's heart, and his anger subsided. He looked at Lola with guilt. "I'm sorry, Lola. Cecil..."
"I know, he likes Melanie. Melanie's accident hurt him deeply. He just wants to find out if the crash was intentional or an accident."
Lola pulled Henry to sit down and spoke gently, "I'm actually happy for Melanie. She has someone who cares about her so much. I hope Melanie wakes up soon, and they can be together."
Henry felt a mix of pity and admiration for Lola and hugged her again.
"He treated you so badly, yet you still speak up for him." Henry felt even more fond of her and guilty.
"Melanie opposed us being together before. Now that she's hurt, it's normal for him to suspect me," Lola said understandingly. "Once he finds out I'm not involved, and I show my sincerity while Melanie and your parents are in the hospital, they'll eventually accept me."
Henry looked at her innocent face, feeling even more moved.
"Let me treat your wounds first," Lola said gently. "Look at you, fighting with your best friend. Once this is over, you need to make up with him. He's always looking out for you and loves Melanie deeply. Friends like him are hard to find..."
Just then, a bodyguard knocked on the door and reported, "Mr. Hall, the truck driver who caused Ms. Hall's accident didn't make it."
Lola heard this but remained focused on treating Henry's wounds, seemingly calm.
"I understand. You can go now." Henry's attention was entirely on Lola. The driver's fate didn't concern him.
Meanwhile, the truck driver's wife was crying her heart out over her husband's body. "What am I supposed to do with three kids? Your parents' illness isn't cured, and debt collectors came yesterday. How could you leave us like this?"
She cried until she fainted. When she woke up, she found a handsome, wealthy young man sitting beside her.
"Who are you?" The driver's wife asked, confused and wary.
"I suspect your husband was murdered. If you trust me, I'd like to have professionals perform an autopsy. Don't worry, we'll sew him back up afterward. I want to get justice for your husband and help you get more compensation."
The driver's wife asked, puzzled, "Why are you helping me?"
"I want to find out the truth about my girlfriend's accident. She swerved to avoid your husband's truck, and her car flipped. She's still in the hospital."
