Chapter 16
They were all in the same hospital, with the same ward number. In the chaos of a fire, they accidentally switched babies.
Lola thought, 'Seriously?'
Beckett continued. "The Wilsons sent us Abella's hair. The result of the DNA test is 99.9%! And when we finally met, Abella looked identical to Kimberly. It's unbelievable!"
Lola's heart sank completely, but she still refused to give up. "How do you can be certain that I'm not your biological daughter?"
"After doing a paternity test with Abella, we took some of your hair from your room for testing as well."
In other words, there was no way that Lola was their child.
Her last glimmer of hope was completely gone!
"Lola." Kimberly patted her head gently. "Although you're not our child by blood, we've treated you as our own daughter for so many years. Don't worry. You can stay with us. When you meet the right man in the future, we will also offer you a wedding."
Although Kimberly looked at her with the same loving gaze, Lola knew better than anyone else that things were different!
If only she had been the biological daughter of the richest family...
Now that Abella had returned home, Lola was just an adopted daughter.
To put it bluntly, she was an outsider!
Her gaze dimmed for a few seconds. Lola subconsciously hugged Kimberly tightly. "Mom, I love you and I love Dad. I'll always be a good daughter to you two."
After spending some time cuddling with them, Lola went to the second floor. She suddenly realized that the layout of the entire floor had changed!
The second floor was completely renovated, with each room decorated in a different style.
Lola stopped a maid and asked, "What happened to these rooms?"
"Mr. and Mrs. Medici invited Ken, an internationally renowned designer, to design them specially for Ms. Medici as she was coming home. They also hired the best contractor to decorate the whole floor except your room. The rooms have different styles because they aren't sure what kind of style Ms. Medici would like."
Lola's calm mask cracked a little.
"But..." The maid whispered after making sure there was no one else around. "Abella only chose the most ordinary one."
That made Lola feel better.
The maid glanced around once more and whispered, "Abella has had little exposure to the world since childhood. She probably hasn't seen a famous painting like Picasso's artwork. It was originally meant to be displayed in the living room for guests to admire, but she managed to have it placed in the tea room!"
Lola was somehow surprised, "She's involved in such matters?"
"It seems that the Madam values her greatly, and she follows her every word. She indeed had it placed in the tea room!" replied the maid, "Today Mr. and Mrs. Medici cooked for her and bought many beautiful clothes, shoes, and bags for her. They even gave her over 100 million dollars as pocket money."
Lola's long eyelashes hid the storm in her eyes.
"Miss Lola, forgive me for being nosy, but if you choose to study abroad in college, your future family status may be in jeopardy," the maid reminded nervously.
Lola was well aware of her own situation, "Hmm, I understand. You can go now."
"Wait, your name is Bia, right?" Lola suddenly stopped her, took off the diamond bracelet from her wrist, and handed it to her. "I heard your family member is hospitalized, this bracelet might come in handy."
"Thank you, Miss Lola!" Bia immediately showed her loyalty. "In the future, I will always look up to you."
Lola waved her hand, signaling her to leave, with a faint idea forming in her mind.
Although Abella was the real 'Ms. Medici', over the years, Lola had spent much more time with Kimberly and Beckett. In terms of emotions, the bond was much deeper than with Abella!
The next morning.
A man pushed open the door to Room 306 at NYU Medical Center.
He had deep black clear pupils and delicate features, carrying a special air of nobility.
Lying on the bed, Ryan moved his fingers slightly as if he had sensed something. Slowly, he opened his eyes and looked at the visitor.
Recognizing Phillipe, Ryan spoke weakly, his gaze softening, "You little rascal."
Phillipe spoke softly, "You're awake?"
"Where am I?" Ryan struggled to lift his eyelids to look at his surroundings. "What happened to me?"
Why did he hurt all over? Why didn't he even have the strength to speak?
Phillipe smiled faintly. "Not eating or taking medicine. Forcing yourself into starvation mode. Remember?"
Ryan had refused food or medication just to force Phillipe to show up.
After being reminded by Phillipe, Ryan began recalling things bit by bit. It seemed that Phillipe was telling the truth. Ryan knew he didn't have much time left, so he wanted to force Phillipe to get married as soon as possible.
He tried to turn but the pain all over his body was unbearable. "No... It hurts..."
Phillipe watched him with cold eyes and said wryly, "The pain is nothing. You should be grateful you're still alive."
This pain is nothing compared to the trouble Ryan caused him. It served him right.
"You... You little rascal! You haven't visited me once for so many days. How dare you give me this attitude?" Ryan complained, feeling a little hurt.
If Ryan hadn't refused to eat, take his medicine, and even undergo such a major surgery, that brat definitely wouldn't have had the time to come and see him.
"Who asked you to bring up that topic?" Phillipe retorted. As he came over every time, Ryan always brought up Lola, the daughter of the Medici family, and talked about the engagement from back then.
"It's all your fault." Ryan huffed and turned away in anger. "I may die tomorrow. You must bring your fiancée here to see me!"
"I don't have a fiancée." Phillipe enunciated each word slowly.
"Are you trying to kill me?" Ryan couldn't help but clutch at his heart in agony. "Tell me, how can I face the Medici family if you don't marry Lola?"
Phillipe replied coldly, "It is you who agrees to the engagement. It should be your business how to deal with it"
"You, you little rascal... Oh, my heart..." The old man suddenly clutched his chest, his expression contorted in pain.
"Gabriel, fetch a doctor," Phillipe ordered.
Ryan immediately waved his hand and said, "Don't bother. Let me make it clear. If you two don't come here together tomorrow, you don't need to come visit me again!"
As the two started arguing again, Gabriel quickly intervened by saying, "Sir Bourbon, please calm down. Mr. Bourbon has just been very busy lately."
Ryan pointed to Gabriel. "You're always busy. When will you have time to think about getting married?"
"Well... I mean..." Gabriel didn't expect that he'd be dragged into this. He was just doing his job!
