Chapter 292 Late Night Phone Call

At this moment, Abella glanced at Mr. Walker as if to say, ‘Grandma really likes them, she says you're thoughtful.’ Mr. Walker smiled contentedly.

"I'll go get the cake. You can chat for a bit." Abella washed her hands and took the cake out of the box.

It was made by Mr. Walker before dawn, with several pastry chefs taking turns to guide him, wasting quite a bit of ingredients. In the end, they managed to make a decent looking cake.

But Barbara didn't know and exclaimed with a smile, "Abella, did you make this? It looks amazing!"

She knew her beloved granddaughter could make desserts. But Abella smiled faintly, "I didn't make it this year."

Inside, it was all full of Mr. Walker's affection for Barbara. Originally, Abella had planned to celebrate Barbara's birthday in the evening at around 7 or 8, but due to Mr. Walker's series of schedule issues, there was no other choice but to celebrate earlier.

"Shall we light the candles?"

Abella inserted the number 70, candle into the cake, and Mr. Walker quickly said, "Let me do it! I have a lighter."

Seeing him take out a lighter from his pocket, Barbara was a bit surprised. "Didn't I remember that you don't smoke?"

"That's right." It was because Barbara had once mentioned that she didn't like the smell of smoke, so Mr. Walker hadn't touched cigarettes again in the following decades.

He calmly lied, "Abella asked me to buy it downstairs."

Barbara glanced at the brand of the lighter. You couldn't buy this thing at a regular convenience store.

Mr. Walker, who was attentive, immediately sensed her gaze and hurriedly added, "But I was afraid I couldn't find it downstairs, so I borrowed one from someone."

The answer was all Barbara needed, to dispel her doubts. Abella knew that Mr. Walker had bought this lighter specifically in order to personally light the candles.

"I'm going to close the curtains." Abella closed the curtains and put a birthday hat on Grandma's head, singing a birthday song with Mr. Walker for Grandma.

In the flickering candlelight, Mr. Walker sneakily glanced at Barbara's radiant face, the face he had longed to see for decades, and today he finally had a legitimate reason to meet her. When Barbara's husband was still alive, he would use business as an excuse to meet her, and on lucky occasions, he could see Barbara.

But ever since Barbara's husband passed away and he attended the funeral, he couldn't meet Barbara alone anymore. After several years of not seeing her, Barbara's innate elegance and composure made her look even more feminine.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..."

Tears welled up in Mr. Walker's eyes. If it weren't for Abella's invitation, he could only wish happy birthday to this woman from afar in a foreign land.

"Make a wish!" After singing the song, Mr. Walker looked at her gently. Barbara closed her eyes, made a wish, and blew out the candles. Amidst applause, Barbara cut the cake into several slices.

"You can only have a small taste," Abella reminded her.

"Okay, okay... I'll be satisfied with just a few bites!" Barbara took a bite.

"How does it taste?" Mr. Walker asked eagerly.

"It's delicious! Not too sweet, just right..."

"Let me try." Mr. Walker took a bite and asked with concern, "Are you feeling better lately? Any discomfort?"

"Much better. Abella is going to perform surgery on me tomorrow."

"You can trust Abella's medical skills. When you close your eyes tomorrow and open them again, the surgery will be over."

"I hope so too." A small giggle slipped out from Barbara

"Grandma, once the surgery is done tomorrow, you'll be well again! Then you can go out more often."

"That's great. I've been lying in this hospital bed for months, it's so boring."

The three of them chatted and laughed until Barbara got tired, then Abella and Mr. Walker left together.

"If it weren't for you today, I would have had a lifelong regret." Mr. Walker patted Abella's shoulder and praised her, "Good girl, thank you for your encouragement. With this experience, I can truly die without regrets."

"These are such good days, don't speak of unlucky things."

Mr. Walker smiled, but when he thought of Mr. Wilson and the others, his face turned colder, "Has that unfilial son bothered Barbara while she's recovering?"

"He has come a few times and was chased away by the nurses, but there were also times when the nurses didn't notice, although Grandma eventually kicked him out of the ward."

"The surgery is tomorrow, let's hope there won't be any problems."

"Don't worry, I installed surveillance cameras in the ward."

"Oh, that's great!" Mr. Walker walked out of the hospital with her, "I'm going to France to take care of some matters. I'll fly back later, to see your grandma. When her surgery is successful, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief."

Abella knew he wanted to accompany his grandma during the surgery, so she nodded and said, "I will also go back to the company to handle some matters. See you tomorrow."

"Alright."

Abella got in the car and not long after, she received a call from Joseph.

"Miss Medici, our company has signed on another amazing designer! He's from Japan, and said he saw your talent in the previous design competition, so he specifically came for you. When will you be back at the company?"

Abella replied calmly, "In about ten minutes. How many designers do we have now?"

"Over thirty, but only six of them have won major awards!"

"Alright, these six will have their own section on the official website, like Abi's section, representing different styles and regularly showcasing new designs."

"Great idea. No problem!" Joseph quickly wrote it down and then continued, "Oh, speaking of Blair ... Many people have been copying her work recently. Should we take action?"

Abella dismissed it. "File lawsuits against each of them until they're scared. Don't worry about the time or the low compensation in the end. We need to let everyone know that anyone who dares to copy the works of our Medici designers will face severe consequences! They should also apologize on their official platforms until no one dares to copy anymore."

"Yes, I'll take care of that!"

"I have something tomorrow morning, so please schedule anything important for today." Tomorrow morning, she had to be present for Grandma's surgery.

"Then shall I move tomorrow's meeting to today? There's also a new company that wants to discuss a partnership with us tomorrow. Should I schedule it for today as well?"

"Please, yes. Do that." After ending the call, Abella continued driving. She spent the whole day busy at the company, then after work, she spent time with Phillipe and dealt with personal matters in the evening.

Finally, when she was able to rest at around 2 a.m., her phone started vibrating. The vibrations in the dark night were particularly piercing, and Abella's sleep was always light, so she was disrupted by the sound after a while.
