Chapter 915 Give Another Chance

"I'll handle it." Caleb lifted Kimberly and started up the stairs.

"Can you walk?" Bonnie asked Beckett softly.

Beckett clutched his chest, taking deep breaths. Finally, with tears in his eyes, he nodded and slowly made his way up the stairs, holding onto the railing for support.

Watching his aged and despairing figure, a pang of guilt hit Lola. She suddenly felt a deep sense of regret.

What had she done to make everything turn out this way?

Bonnie looked at Lola, whose forehead, face, and chin were covered in blood. Her clothes were soaked, her hair was a mess, and her eyes were vacant. She seemed genuinely remorseful.

"Everyone in this family has always treated you as one of us. If you hadn't done these things, you would still be just as important to us. To Beckett and Kimberly, you and Abella were like their own daughters. Caleb and I saw you as family too. And to your brothers, you were their little sister." Bonnie's calm and indifferent words made Lola look up in shock, tears in her eyes, as if she couldn't believe it.

"But it's too late for that now," Bonnie said coldly, shattering any hope Lola had. "You and your family have to face the consequences of your actions."

"Aunt Bonnie..." Lola cried, trying to say something.

"Abella didn't die because she was strong, but that doesn't mean you won't be held accountable for what you've done."

As Bonnie's cold and resolute figure disappeared up the stairs, Lola cried out, "Aunt Bonnie, give me one more chance, I promise it will be the last."

She truly regretted it.

She wanted to go back to how things were.

She wished she could turn back time.

A few servants dragged her to the storage room in the basement.

It was a small, cramped space with a few scattered items, a far cry from the room she used to have.

She fell to the floor, the glass shards in her palms and the back of her hands digging in deeper, causing her whole body to tremble in pain.

Her forehead hurt, her chin hurt, her shoulder, arms, chest, and back, all the places Kimberly had hit her, throbbed with pain.

Lola wept, feeling utterly lost and not knowing what to do.

She had never had a good impression of Bonnie, always thinking she favored Abella. But after hearing Bonnie's words, she realized she had misunderstood her.

Bonnie might seem cold and strict on the outside, but she did care about Lola.

And so did Beckett and Kimberly.

Thinking about their looks of disappointment and anger earlier, Lola felt like her heart was being torn apart.

She never expected Jacob and Maria to be her biological parents, and even more unexpected was that one would abandon her in a crisis, and the other would fall from the eighteenth floor. What was she supposed to do now?

In the master bedroom, Kimberly didn't know how long she had been unconscious. In her dream, she saw Abella being slapped by Maria. She shook her head, tears streaming down her face, and suddenly shouted, "No!"

Bonnie, who was sitting by the bed stirring a bowl of medicine, saw her sit up abruptly and asked calmly, "You're awake? Had a nightmare?"

Kimberly, still shaken, looked around and saw she was in bed with Bonnie beside her. The room was lit with a warm yellow light, and it was completely dark outside.

"How did I fall asleep..." Kimberly's mind was still filled with the image of Abella being bullied, her voice trembling as if she hadn't fully escaped the nightmare.

"You fainted from emotional distress. The doctor prescribed some medicine. It's a bit hot, so wait a moment before drinking it." Bonnie put down the bowl and gently patted her back. "What was the nightmare about?"

"I dreamed that Maria was bullying Abella." Kimberly's tears welled up again. Even though it was a dream, just thinking about how Abella had been bullied in real life made her hate herself for not seeing Maria's true nature sooner, for not protecting Abella, for letting her suffer right under her nose.

The more she thought about it, the sadder she became, and tears fell like a broken string of pearls.

"Don't blame yourself." Bonnie comforted her softly. "It's all in the past now. You have to look forward. You treated Lola like your own daughter, so naturally, you wouldn't suspect her of doing such terrible things. Who would suddenly think their child was capable of poisoning, hiring hitmen, and other such things?"

Kimberly's face was streaked with tears. They had trusted Lola too much, always judging her based on their past impressions of her, thinking she was pure and kind, and in the end, it was Abella who suffered, almost losing her life.

"Where's my phone?" Kimberly choked out. "I want to call Abella."

"Her phone is broken. Call Phillipe instead." Bonnie found Phillipe's number in her contacts and handed the phone to Kimberly. "I'll go tell Beckett you're awake so he doesn't worry."

"Where is he now?" Kimberly asked, looking up.

"He's just as sad and angry as you are. Caleb is trying to comfort him." Bonnie stood up. "I'll be back soon."

Kimberly nodded and dialed Phillipe's number.

Phillipe answered quickly.

"Phillipe, are you with Abella?" Kimberly tried to keep her voice steady. "Where's Maria? I want to send someone to bring her back."

"She's dead." Phillipe's gentle voice came from the other end. "She was pushed off the eighteenth floor by her own men."

He had heard the story from Abella. One of Maria's men had accidentally knocked her off. It was no one's fault.

Of course, she deserved it.

"She got what she deserved," Kimberly said through gritted teeth. "But it was too easy for her. I wish I could have given her a good beating first."

"Abella did," Phillipe said softly. "In the end, the abandoned building exploded. She's probably ashes now."

Kimberly felt a bit better hearing that. "Where's Abella? I want to talk to her."

Somehow, she really wanted to see Abella, to talk to her.

Phillipe glanced at the person next to him and said gently, "She's asleep."

"Is she okay? Is she hurt?" Kimberly couldn't help but worry. "Where are you? Are you at the hospital?"

"It's just past three in the morning here. She's just tired and fell asleep." Phillipe explained. "We're in the car, planning to catch a flight back home soon."

Kimberly suddenly remembered the time difference.

How could she have forgotten that!
