Chapter 335 The Necklace, Take It Off.
"You are the best gift," Phillipe reassured her, as he gently touched her face, injecting her with a dose of confidence. "Grandma will be very happy to see you."
"But I can't go empty-handed," Abella insisted. "What did Grandma enjoy in the past?"
Surely, she ought to prepare something.
"Abella, the old lady enjoys admiring flowers, paintings, playing chess... Oh, and she has heard your music before."
"...Really?" Abella was clearly skeptical.
"It's true! If you don't believe me, ask Mr. Bourbon." The secretary confessed.
"Hmm." Phillipe gazed at her tenderly. "Before, Grandma did indeed listen to your music and expressed her admiration."
So, playing a couple of melodies upon arrival would suffice?
If she enjoys chess, there's indeed a fine chess set she has, with pieces made of exquisite jade, and the board is so clear it is priceless.
But to have it sent over now would be too rushed...
"Didn't you give Grandma an emerald bracelet before?" Phillipe reminded her.
Abella remembered that indeed, she had bid on a piece of fine jade and designed two bracelets, one as a birthday gift for Grandma Wilson and the other intended for Granny Bourbon through Mr. Bourbon.
"That bracelet is still on Grandma's wrist. There's no need to prepare anything else; just being there is enough."
Eventually, persuaded by Phillipe, Abella decided to bring the chess set on a future visit.
It wasn't long before their car stopped at the entrance to River Park.
Phillipe held Abella's hand as they walked through the main gates, with the butler leading the way.
"The old lady just woke up; she will be so pleased to see you!" The butler's tone could hardly contain his joy.
No one expected that the old lady would wake up and be capable of simple conversation—it was beyond surprising!
And all this, thanks to Phillipe's fiancee!
Upon reaching Mr. Bourbon's bedroom, they saw the dignified and elegant grandmother, sipping soup fed to her by Mr. Bourbon.
"Grandpa, Grandma," Phillipe and Abella called out in unison, drawing the attention of both elderly figures toward them.
"Oh, here comes our granddaughter-in-law! My darling, this is Abella I've told you about! Abella! Mr. Medici's daughter!" Mr. Bourbon set the bowl down and eagerly called Abella over to sit, completely ignoring Phillipe...
Phillipe, no stranger to such situations, led Abella by the hand to the bedside to sit down.
The kind looking lady was neatly dressed, with not a thing out of place about her whole person, looking radiant and exuding an aura of nobility and unapproachability.
She raised her nurturing gaze first towards Phillipe and murmured, "You've grown taller, more mature, and increasingly composed."
Her voice trailed off melodiously, warm and pleasant to the ear, and she, too, had an impressive presence.
"My dear," he said to his wife, "there was a famous healer named Abbott in the martial arts world, whom I couldn't contact no matter how hard I tried. Finally, after great effort and pulling various strings, we managed to bring him here. And guess what – that healer Abbott, that's Abella! What are the odds, haha..."
Mr. Bourbon burst into laughter and then continued, "Before I managed to bring Abbott here, the secretary told me that Abella, having heard about your illness, had already gone off to find medicine for you in secret! The secretary said she went somewhere extremely dangerous, where a slight misstep could cost her life."
But the young girl did not shrink back. Even though she could have sent someone else, or remained detached, she did not...
"Later, after she had gathered the medicine, she worked tirelessly, racing against time to prepare it, just to save you..." Mr. Bourbon continued.
"If it weren't for her being spotted by Phillipe and the secretary at that place, we would never have known about her silent, unheralded sacrifices!"
She didn't need others to say more – she had taken action to save lives, without seizing the opportunity to claim credit or garner favor...
Such vision, such magnanimity...
Abella felt a bit embarrassed by Mr. Bourbon's compliments, "Initially, I was just trying, without full assurance. It's mainly because grandma's physical condition is strong and could withstand the medication."
Not like Grandma Wilson, who was frail as if made of paper...
Thinking of Grandma Wilson, a shadow momentarily passed over Abella's eyes, which did not escape Phillipe's notice.
He gripped her hand tighter, understanding that she was thinking of Grandma Wilson, and his thumb gently caressed the back of her hand to comfort her.
The moment of sadness in Abella's eyes quickly flashed by, and she lifted her eyes to say, "It was mainly because grandfather trusted me and supported me wholeheartedly in doing it."
Mr. Bourbon had said before, even if there was just a ten percent chance, he would support Abella's full effort to try.
It was Mr. Bourbon's immense confidence and trust in her that led to today's miracle.
Although Abella was quite confident at the time, there was a small margin of unpredictability that couldn't be overlooked. Fortunately, all hurdles had been cleared, and Granny Bourbon was now able to sit and listen to their conversation.
"Oh, by the way, the jade bracelet you're wearing was a gift from Abella," Mr. Bourbon said with a smile, taking his wife's hand. "And the crown necklace you gifted to Abella... Are you wearing it today, Abella?"
"I am." Abella pulled the necklace out from underneath her collar.
Phillipe added from beside them, "Abella wears it every day."
Looking at the beautiful crown necklace, Granny Bourbon suddenly spoke, "Take it off."
Mr. Bourbon and Phillipe thought they had heard wrong!
"Granny?" Phillipe didn't understand. Was Granny unhappy with Abella?
"My dear, that necklace was meant to be for our granddaughter-in-law..." Mr. Bourbon was also confused. Was his wife's mind unclear again, thinking someone had taken her precious necklace?
Phillipe, holding Abella's hand firmly, said, "Granny, Abella is the love of my life, and I will marry only her."
"I said, take it off," Granny Bourbon seemed to exert all her strength to say these words.
Seeing the expression in Granny Bourbon's eyes, Abella reached out, removed the necklace, and respectfully handed it back with both hands.
Phillipe's eyes deepened with emotion, and Mr. Bourbon was incredulous as he watched his wife take the necklace...
"Granny wishes to put it on you herself," Granny Bourbon's voice was filled with affection and tenderness.
The tension Mr. Bourbon and Phillipe felt immediately eased.
"Come here." Mrs. Borbon called to Abella.
Abella had already grasped her intention and obediently approached, bending down before her.
She knew Granny struggled to express herself as fluently as others, but that would get better over time.
"My dear, you scared me to death..." Mr. Bourbon patted his chest, puzzled as to why his wife would be dissatisfied with a granddaughter-in-law as outstanding as Abella, only to realize she wanted to put it on herself...
Granny Bourbon had only recently recovered and was clumsy with her hands and feet, struggling to put on the necklace after several attempts.
"Granny's hands are clumsy..." The elderly woman tried her best to place this meaningful necklace on her granddaughter-in-law, but the clasp in the back was not easy to fasten.
Abella was patient, "It's alright, take your time, there's no rush."
"I'm worried you'll get tired from squatting..." Granny said politely.
