Chapter 707 Sending Secret Signals
Erica couldn't believe what she was seeing. The scene where she "accidentally" bumped into Abella, making her drop that chocolate cookie, was all caught on the security cam.
She stood there, dumbfounded, staring at the servant next to her like, "What the heck?"
The servant was freaking out. She had followed Erica's orders to delete the footage. How did Abella get it back and even put it up on the big screen?
The guests around them started whispering, "So Erica did it on purpose and then blamed the other girl? That's messed up."
"And she wanted a public apology? That's just too much."
"If this girl didn't know how to recover the footage, she'd be in deep trouble."
"I heard Erica's been spoiled her whole life, always acting like a queen. This is totally her style."
Angie, standing nearby, was also shocked and super embarrassed. She couldn't believe Abella had the skills to recover the footage.
In the distance, Ulysses, Derek, and Naomi saw the whole thing and felt really awkward.
Erica tried to frame Abella but didn't cover her tracks. Now she was getting publicly humiliated?
"Looks like a misunderstanding," Angie tried to smooth things over with a forced smile. "Erica, did you not sleep well last night? Were you just distracted and didn't notice you bumped into someone?"
Erica could only nod miserably. "Maybe I remembered wrong. My memory's been off lately."
"Didn't Grandpa Derek want some chocolate cookies? Go grab a couple more for him and don't keep him waiting."
As they tried to slip away, Abella's cold voice cut through, "Falsely accusing someone, don't you need to apologize?"
Before Angie could say anything, Abella continued, "Is this how Grandma Angie teaches her granddaughter? Make a mistake and just find an excuse to leave?"
Angie didn't expect Abella to be so relentless.
"Sorry, I misunderstood you," Erica mumbled, "I didn't mean to bump into you."
"So many people saw you do it on purpose, and you say it wasn't intentional? What would be considered intentional then?" Abella's words left Erica speechless.
"Yeah, it was obviously on purpose."
"Even a fool could see that."
"That's just bullying!"
"Young people might not get it, but do their elders not understand either?"
With the growing criticism around them, Angie finally said, "Erica was wrong. As her grandmother, I apologize on her behalf."
Erica gritted her teeth and bowed her head. "Sorry, I'll be more careful in the future."
Only then did Abella give them a lazy glance and turn to leave.
Outside the villa was a beautiful garden.
Abella wanted to look around for clues. She had just taken a few steps when someone stopped her.
"Hey, I don't think I've seen you before. Who'd you come with?" The guy, Milan Puckett, looked sincere and a bit shy as he introduced himself, "I'm Milan. I came with my mom for Grandpa Derek's birthday. Are you Grandpa Derek's granddaughter?"
"No," Abella replied coolly.
"Then are you Mr. Medici's daughter?" Milan was surprised by her identity.
Since the Puckett family moved to Verdania, they hadn't been back for like seven or eight years. Back then, Milan had gone to a charity gala with his folks and met Beckett. He never thought Beckett's daughter would be such a knockout.
"What's your name?" Milan was dying to know more about her.
"Do you need something?"
"I just wanna get to know you. Can I get your number?" Milan pulled out his phone, looking all sincere and nervous.
Just then, Abella noticed a maid not far off, clenching her fists with her thumbs up, signaling to a male servant across from her.
The male servant got the message.
A few seconds later, a bunch of other maids did the same thing.
The male servant nodded and quietly slipped away.
"If you can't give me your number, can you at least tell me where you live? Who'd you come with? How can I reach you?" Milan didn't want to miss his shot.
But Abella just said, "I already have a fiancé."
Milan watched her walk past him, stunned for a few seconds before it hit him. 'She's engaged? She has a fiancé?'
But then he thought, 'A girl this stunning and unique, daughter of the richest guy around, it's no surprise she's engaged early.'
Still, he felt a bit down, like he'd just been dumped.
Abella followed the male servant, watching him glance back now and then to see if anyone was tailing him. Along the way, he nodded and exchanged looks with other male servants.
She saw him go up a secluded spiral staircase in the garden. At the top was a big circular balcony on the second floor, guarded by a bunch of bodyguards.
The male servant said something to the bodyguards, and they let him in right away.
Abella saw him open a door, and it looked like a study inside. Before she could get a better look, the door shut.
She scoped out the area and was about to find a spot to jump up when she noticed someone behind her.
She turned around and saw Milan standing not far off.
Maybe he didn't expect her to turn around so suddenly, but Milan got even more nervous. Still, he managed to say, "Sorry, I don't know if I know your fiancé. Who is he?"
Abella thought about the people in the study and how much they might have reported, so she just said, "Phillipe Bourbon."
Hearing the name "Phillipe Bourbon," Milan knew he had no chance. He apologized for bothering her and quickly left.
Abella spotted a small path on the right side of the villa, between the villa's fence and the wall, about a meter wide.
No one was guarding it. Abella easily used the railings and walls to leap up and slipped into the second-floor bathroom through a window. When she quietly opened the bathroom door, she saw no guests outside, just bodyguards all over the second floor.
If she went out now, she'd definitely alert the bodyguards.
Abella gently closed the bathroom door, but a sharp-eyed bodyguard noticed.
Seeing the bathroom door move, the bodyguard walked over, pushed it open, and saw no one inside, but the window was open. He immediately walked over.
Abella took the chance to drop down from above and knocked him out, then walked out of the bathroom wearing his clothes.
Just then, someone took the elevator upstairs, and all the bodyguards bowed in unison. Abella also bowed her head.
