Chapter 1087 Break Off the Engagement
His voice echoed through the hallway, loud enough for Cecil, the servants, and the bodyguards to hear.
"No way!" Lola shouted back.
She was a seasoned liar, her face now twisted with anger and resentment, as if Henry was accusing her of something she didn't do.
Henry laughed bitterly, tears streaming down his face. "You know me well enough to realize I wouldn't ask these questions without solid proof."
Henry looked into her eyes, utterly disappointed. "Even now, you won't come clean?"
"Who fed you this garbage?" Lola was still gambling, betting that Henry was bluffing, so she stubbornly insisted, "You trust strangers over me now?"
Henry's smile grew even more bitter. In the past, he had been fooled by her pitiful and aggrieved demeanor.
He had mistakenly thought she was innocent and pure.
"Let's call off the engagement," Henry suddenly said. "You really can't be part of our family."
"What do you mean?" Lola's face turned pale instantly.
They were speaking in the hospital hallway, and although the nurses and other patients on this floor were discreet and didn't gossip, there were still seven or eight servants, seven or eight bodyguards, andCecil nearby, watching and listening to everything.
Henry completely disregarded her feelings, announcing the breakup in public.
Where did that leave her dignity?
"What do you take me for? You want to get engaged, we get engaged. You want to break it off, we break it off? Have you ever considered my feelings?" Lola finally asked angrily.
"And what about my feelings? Have you ever cared from the beginning? You knew my mom had a heart condition, yet you had someone push her down the stairs," Henry's heart ached as he questioned her. "You caused a car accident to try to kill my sister. If she wasn't lucky, would she still be lying in there waiting for rescue? You caused the accident, implicating an innocent driver. This is murder. You tried to kill three people just to vent your anger. How can you be so cruel? Are you really Lola? You've changed so much that I don't even recognize you!"
Seeing Henry's tearful and furious expression, Lola felt a bit uneasy.
Could he really know everything?
Who told him?
Was it Scorpion?
That was impossible.
Although Scorpion had been out of contact for two days, he was loyal to her biological father and would never betray her.
So how did Henry find out?
As long as Scorpion didn't admit it, what evidence could point to her?
"Even now, you're thinking about whether I have evidence?" Henry's self-mockery reached its peak, and he laughed bitterly. "Even now, you don't feel any remorse or guilt for your murderous actions. All you think about is how to get away with it, how to deceive me into believing you're innocent?"
Lola's face turned pale.
"I finally understand why the Medici family kicked you out, why Abella didn't want to be friends with you after returning to the Medici family, because you're terrifying!" Henry was utterly disappointed, his world collapsing. "The Medici family spent eighteen years trying to warm your heart, and I thought I could... I thought sincerity could make a difference; I thought if I treated you well, we could have a happy life together. I never imagined it would almost cost my mother and sister their lives!"
Seeing Henry's regret and agony, Lola realized things were not looking good.
He probably had evidence.
"You don't want to talk," Henry said, pulling out his phone. "Fine. I'll hand all the evidence to the cops. From now on, whether you live or die has nothing to do with me."
Seeing Henry about to call the police, Lola hurriedly maneuvered her wheelchair forward to grab his hand, but he harshly pushed her away.
"Henry..."
Seeing him determined to make the call, Lola grabbed his shirt. "What are you doing?"
"What am I doing?" Henry looked down at her, his eyes red, and asked painfully, "You murdered my mother and Melanie, killed an innocent driver. What do you think I'm doing? Should I pretend nothing happened, continue to pamper you, treat you like a queen? Lola, this is murder—killing people means paying with your life! You're terrifying, heartless! You're beyond saving!"
Only now did he understand how disappointed and hurt the Medicis must have been.
If it hadn't come to this, he wouldn't have been able to empathize!
Thinking back, he felt foolish for rescuing her from the Medici family without considering the consequences. At that moment, did the Medicis see him as a fool?
So many people in the Medici family loved her, pampered her, warmed her, but couldn't change her. He hadn't realized the problem at all.
Only now did Henry understand that he didn't love the cruel, heartless girl in front of him, but the innocent Lola from their school days.
But that Lola was forever stuck in the past, destined to be sealed in his memory, never to be revealed, for once revealed, it would be unrecognizable.
Seeing Henry determined to call the police, Lola could only maneuver her wheelchair forward again, grabbing his shirt and pleading, "Henry, listen to me. I was too angry at the time, and I made a mistake. When I saw them being rushed into the emergency room, I felt pain, torment, and deep regret. I was too scared to tell you."
Henry looked at her hypocritical and deceitful face, remembering how she had pretended to care when he received the call about his mother and Melanie's accident backstage at their wedding.
He hadn't realized she had orchestrated it all!
Henry asked mockingly, "So you're admitting it?"
Lola knew there was no point in denying it anymore. He had already said "break off the engagement" and was ready to call the police in front of everyone. He was truly disappointed and hurt.
"Henry, can we talk inside?" Lola softened her tone and posture as much as possible.
But as soon as she made the request, Henry laughed mockingly, "Even now, you're worried about your dignity?"
Without a single apology, always trying to justify herself, and when that failed, she wanted to close the door and play the victim.
That was her usual tactic.
"You have one minute." Henry's face was cold, as if he didn't want to waste another second on her.
Lola had to seize the time; even if he kept pushing her away, she kept trying to hold on. "I admit, I had people do it. Mrs. Hall was pushed down the stairs by my orders, and Melanie's car accident was orchestrated by me."
