Chapter 341 Live Connection

It was said that Mr. Wodehouse loved Go more than life itself. Back when he had acquired this set at a high price, he even purchased an exquisite box just to house it! How did this box come into Abella's possession, and could it really contain the authentic set?

"Thank you for your patience." Abella presented the gift box with both hands to Madam Bourbon, and Elsa smiled, "I was actually planning to bring this Go set to you another time, but this little misunderstanding has provided an opportunity. I would like to give it to Grandma now; please see if you like it."

Madam Bourbon did not expect the young lady to have such an intention, having already wanted to present this Go set to her.

She smiled warmly and asked Mr. Bourbon to help open it. Inside were Go stones and a board with even more lustrous and beautiful colors.

"How can this be…" Mrs. Wentworth was stunned. "How can there be two sets of identical pieces?"

To the onlooker, Abella's set looked to be of equal color and craftsmanship to Calla's. Could fakes really be made so convincingly now?

Mrs. Talbot could hardly believe her eyes; there was no picking flaws in Abella's Go set indeed; flawless.

Mr. Allen's complexion turned sour. He hadn't expected Abella's Go set to be nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.

"This Go set I have was bought from the granddaughter of the previous collector, it can't be fake! Where did yours come from?"

Abella lifted her graceful eyes nonchalantly and said, "Mr. Wodehouse doesn't have a granddaughter."

This statement shocked everyone!

It was commonly known that Mr. Wodehouse had a granddaughter. However, due to Mr. Wodehouse's penchant for privacy, hardly anyone had seen his grandchildren.

Abella stated with conviction, "You've been deceived."

Unable to contain herself, Calla clenched her fists tightly, "Nonsense! I even have Mr. Wodehouse's granddaughter's WhatsApp! She has allowed me visibility into her Moments, which contains numerous photos of her with Mr. Wodehouse! Some were even taken in Mr. Wodehouse's yard. How could she appear in his home wearing pajamas and taking intimate photos with him if she wasn't his granddaughter!”

"Oh, then you surely didn't add Mr. Wodehouse's granddaughter; you've definitely been duped," Abella responded.

Hearing this, Calla was enraged, "Do you know Mr. Wodehouse? How do you know he doesn't have a granddaughter? You still haven't answered where you bought your Go set! If you lie today, you'll tarnish not only the relationship between the Bourbon family and the Allen family but also Mr. Wodehouse's reputation!"

After all, she was alleging Mr. Wodehouse had no granddaughter!

"My Go set was a gift from Mr. Wodehouse himself."

With this revelation, the room was thunderstruck!

“Impossible!! Mr. Wodehouse, cherished chess above all, how could he possibly just gift his beloved treasure to a you? Even his granddaughter had to plead for three months before laying hands on that Go set.”

Mr. Allen was the first to burst into laughter, clearly taking Abella's words as a joke! He knew Mr. Wodehouse better than anyone else. The man was a cantankerous old curmudgeon; how could he favor a young lady so highly as to give away his prized collection. It was the biggest joke of all! This young girl's lies were growing by the minute.

Calla laughed along, "Miss Medici, I must say, your fibbing impresses me. So you claim to know Mr. Wodehouse, and that Go set was a gift from him? Do you have evidence of this?"

"Oh, I have his WhatsApp."

Mr. Allen found it even more amusing. "Little girl, let me tell you, I know Mr. Wodehouse, and I know his voice. He's not the type to just add anyone on WhatsApp."

Even when he tried to add that eccentric old man initially, he was coldly rejected. Back then, he had tried to buy that Go board set; sweet talking, lips nearly worn through with persuasion, but the man wouldn't give an inch of face. Could this little girl possibly have gotten him to willingly present it to her?

Abella pulled out her phone and sent a voice call directly. It wasn't long before the call connected.

"Hey, Abella, is it my eyesight, or did you dial wrong? You actually made a voice call to me, quite the rarity."

Mr. Wodehouse's voice came through from the other side, and everyone in the room was taken aback.

Mr. and Madam Bourbon, upon hearing it, could instantly confirm it was Mr. Wodehouse's voice, feeling immediately as if victory was in their grasp.

Mr. Allen's complexion changed; there was no mistaking Mr. Wodehouse's voice, that timbre, that tone; his ears wouldn't deceive him.

But how could it be. Mr. Wodehouse actually seemed to know this girl! Who exactly is this girl? And why was she so valued by Mr. Wodehouse?

"Grandfather, have you rested, or did I disturb you?" Abella remembered that he rested very early.

"Oh my, such formal words! Let me tell you, even if I were lying in a coffin, your call would spring me to life! So, when are we going to play a couple of rounds?"

This revealed a surprising amount of information. Abella could play Go as well?

It seemed she'd played Go with Mr. Wodehouse before. Could it be that she's incredibly good at it?

"Some other time." Abella moved swiftly to the matter at hand, "I heard you had a granddaughter today? It's nothing, just calling to ask."

"What granddaughter, how come I don't know about this? Ah, I get it. You must have heard some rumors and thought I acknowledged someone else as my granddaughter? No way! Grandpa only wants you, how about it, changed your mind yet? There are many clamoring to be my granddaughter!"

Abella hadn't expected him to bring this up again and quickly changed the subject, "Let's talk about that another time. That jade Go board set, do you remember it?"

"Of course I remember, didn't I give it to you? Thinking of returning it to Grandpa? I knew you were a considerate and sweet girl."

"You're thinking too much." Abella cut off his wishful thinking, "I'm calling to tell you, I've given it away."

"What!! WHAT!! You little rascal, that Go board set was my treasure, I gave it to you because I love you."

"Are you sure it's love?"

When Abella's question caught Mr. Wodehouse off guard, he stammered, "Yes, there was indeed a hint of pain involved."

Abella did not expose him since the WhatsApp voice call was audible to everyone, simply responding, "Okay, that's all I wanted to discuss. There's nothing else, hanging up now."

"Hey, hey, hey, you girl, you haven't told me when you're coming next." Mr. Wodehouse hadn't finished his sentence when Abella ended the call.

The room was left in stunned silence.

Mr. Allen never imagined that the young lady truly knew Mr. Wodehouse, who had personally admitted that he had given her the Go set.

Calla's complexion turned even uglier.

If what Abella had was the real deal, then the question was, what on earth had she spent a whole two hundred million dollars on!

"No, it can't be..." Calla shook her head in disbelief, unable to accept the truth.

"Calla dear, could you have been deceived?" Mrs. Talbot hastily offered her a way out. "Don't you have the granddaughter of Mr. Wodehouse on WhatsApp? Go ahead and call her to find out what's going on."

"Since Abella has Mr. Wodehouse's WhatsApp, if necessary, she could also confront Mr. Wodehouse with his granddaughter." Mrs. Wentworth chimed in helpfully.

Everyone's gaze fell upon Calla.

In extreme embarrassment, Calla took out her phone to make a WhatsApp voice call to the granddaughter, only to realize she had been blocked!

Seeing Calla's horridly pale face, Mrs. Talbot urgently inquired what was wrong and found out that she had been blocked on WhatsApp.

The truth was laid bare! Calla had been swindled, and the fraudster had blocked her after receiving the money.

After all the commotion, it turned out to be a scam.

Madam Bourbon looked at Abella with a loving gaze, "I never expected you to be acquainted with Mr. Wodehouse. When your grandfather tried to buy that Go set from him, he refused to sell. It's clear he holds you in high regard. Needless to say, you must be quite skilled at Go!”
